As a fellow Muslim, I wish Manny well. I'm glad that his members are supportive and respective of his beliefs, especially in a country that has a small Islamic community.

Mods, please post this one instead. Accidentally sent the wrong link by accident. Sorry!

interesting. is he korean?

and there's pork in kimchi jigae. lol i probably ate that without knowing while i was there.

also, i thought this is after sunset, but apparently it's early morning. i would've preferred to have my breakfast first before having to dance around

there's an entire ethnic group in China (Hui) that are mainly Muslims. e.g. Liu Shi Shi (actress in C ver of Moon Lovers)

There's tuna kimchi jjigae! Sorry you ate pork on accident. :(

On a similar note, my friend who is a vegetarian refused to believe there was pork in jjajangmyeon... that was all she ate. I was like girl...

i remember i ate sundubu with seafood and we made sure there's no pork in it. but the other time was a jiggae which is a service from galbi restaurant. idk if they also put it on freebies like that. but i ate ramyeons there, having heard they may use pig product. at that time i wasn't sure where/how they could put it in ramyeon, so i ate it anyway 😅. ah well. it's difficult to know when the meat/pig product is not actually visible. i probably would've eaten jjajjangmyeon too if i had the chance lol.

my mom doesnt eat pork (for health reasons) and she made sure me and my sis let the restaurant owner knows she cant have pork on her kimchi jjigae. Still, they put pork in and when we pointed it out, the owner panicked and got it replaced for us. I think you need to make sure they dont put it in

i always asked if there's pork in food and choose not to order it if they tell me there is to make things easier. but most of the time the problem is communication bc i don't speak korean (or other languages where i'm traveling to tbh).

Oh the owner spoke English actually (she's like in her 30's) but just to made sure we memorized the phrase (basically just "dwaeji gogi andwaeyo" LOL). My mom REALLY can't eat pork so before we went we made a list of dishes with "potential" pork inside.

I've asked for them to remove bananas from smoothies (super allergic).
they generally say they will and put it in anyway until I complain and the have to make me another lmao so I can relate

LOL i hate it when it happens too. It's nothing religious for my mom but I think the owner thought she was a Muslim so she freaked out a bit.

I find it funny when people assume a person is a Muslim because they aren't eating pork lmfao.

yeah the owners always ??!?!?!?!?! at the workers because they can get in serious trouble for that lmao

LOL right. We made sure before ordering that she understood what we said, and we emphasized it several times too. And my mom didnt look very happy abt the situation, so yeah.

That's super annoying. My mom doesn't like drinking tea with sugar & no matter how many times she says not to add, there will always be sugar in it.

when it comes down to it I feel like it's saving them work not having to do the extra step to not add the thing in lmao

oh, that's interesting. i'm not the most observant of muslims but i always try to really adhere to the dietary restrictions, which is pretty hard to do whenever i'm abroad. i wish him well.

it'll make for awkward drinking/bbq sessions, but yeay for exposure i guess?

i went around seoul eating and drinking just fine as long as i keep to my "i don't eat meat", "no alcohol" and "seafood only pls" mantra going in any restaurants there, and i was there during the times halal food is not as widespread as it is nowadays. although i do lower my guard when in itaewon lol

when I went to Seoul we only ate at Turkish restaurants that has Halal on the signs, didn't have a chance to eat any Korean dish, except for rice cake and a Kimichi omelet we made at a hanok house for tourists
