he's saying there will never be gender equality because women are weaker than men. so men should take care of them; men should protect women. and eunhyuk adds women should be grateful
he was probably saying all that to seem cool... meh :T
i think he was trying to be cool, like, yeah we gotta protect women! but i don't like he said there could never be gender equality maybe some of what he was trying to convey was lost in translation.
Women aren't weaker- but I think it's just tradition that the guy should pay... and it's cool for the girl to be strong. But what use is a guy that can't protect you, whether with strength or wit? :')
He was saying that to the guys who feel sad because they're short and broke, to make them feel better about themselves (like "don't worry that you're a loser, you can still protect women because they'll always be weaker than you).
I think things like this should fire up discussion on how society views women and how those views oppress them and cause gender inequality. The fact is that there is high chance there will never be gender equality. The mentality that males are the protectors and breadwinners while women are the homemakers and caretakers is so ingrained in many societies and deeply rooted in them that is going to be hard to reverse that. It's kind of like how racism is been here for so long and people try to erase it but it still lingers here and there and never goes away.
1. i do agree that women and men will never be equal. 2. i think women are stronger than men in some aspects and men are stronger in others. 3. i do agree that men should protect women.
4. this show is fucking scripted so none of the above matters.
FAIL. Men aren't meant to protect women. I think the justice system is supposed to do that. What men should do is respect women for being fellow human beings with the same rights and aspirations.
His point would be harmless if it didn't come closely followed by Eunhyuk's helpful conclusion about how protection/sacrifice from a man should be met with gratitude by a woman. They're not "protecting" us to be chivalrous, they're doing it expecting to be repaid. I'd rather buy my own popcorn, thanks.

It doesn't even surprise me anymore when certain SJ members say things like that. Still, I guess I'd attribute this whole thing to cultural differences + Teuk's unfortunate attention-whoring.
Well… it wasn't so clever to say that women are weak XD;; But it's OK if the guys pay. And maybe I'm a bit old fashioned or Idk what, but this men-protecting-women thingy ist just.. true. I like it XD;;; And lol@the women wanting guys 180cm+ Lucky me is very small and even a guy at 170cm is fine. LOL.
The Colombia girl was kind of awesome. Also, the one who told him that saying women are weak overseas is very rude made me lol, because Leeteuk looked just a tiny bit awkward then. Ah, well. At least he knows now, right?
That said, gender roles and heteronormative roles are so ingrained in the consciousness of most cultures that I think he might be right in saying that there will never be genuine, legit gender equality. At least, it will take a very long time to get there.
I'm more of the opinion that it will take time rather than it's impossible. Women's rights and equality has made huge strides in the West. There's no reason why the same can't or shouldn't happen elsewhere.
Well, I do want men to protect me, if there is a situation when my own stenght isn't enough. Because I don't think women are mentally any weaker than men, but physically they are. (and of course there's exceptions, don't get into it too much)
I got a feeling that he didn't mean it in a bad way, it just came out all wrong. (and Eunhyuk's comment made it worse) He has showed to have pretty reasonable opinions about equality before.
Yeah, I think everything was just worded poorly/they were trying to seem like cool guys. Maybe they didn't want the other guys to think they were weak. XD
Besides, they're basically using generalizations about females and generalizations are never the way to go. XD
