i just booked my flight to la for the shinee concert!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm so freaking excited lmao. i'm glad my uncle lives in la bc if he didn't i would NOT be able to afford any type of accomodation on top of the flights and the concert ticket even tho i'm only going for a p3 ticket. i'm gonna be so bored just hanging out by myself all weekend tho, might get back on tinder and see if i go on a date or something while i'm there lmao

I got research funding to do some fieldwork in Seoul and Nagasaki at the end of March. It'll be my third time in Korea and second time in Japan but my first time going completely alone w/out peers/colleagues so I'm a little anxious.

Anyone have any recs for anything new to do in Seoul? Last time I was there was 2014 and I stayed there the whole summer for an internship so I've been around. Also if anyone has any suggestions for good places to eat alone that'd be much appreciated lol since that was the thing I didn't enjoy doing the past times I was there.

Also, if anyone has any tips for Nagasaki, I'd really love it since I can't read/speak Japanese so I'm sure I'll have some trouble.

Oh right, Valentine Day is coming o.o I completely forgot about it! I received one card from Omona one year, I still have it saved in my computer haha. I'll try to make some, it's cute :)
Having my first party in my flat this weekend! I'm really looking forward to this break, my job is exhausting me and I know March will be just as tough as February, but I don't want to slow down because it's so interesting. I'm going to buy flowers, candles and stuff to make the flat look pretty! There are so many things I want to do with this flat, it's the first time I have the opportunity to decorate as I wish!!!

Hi Omona! How has ur week been? I kinda have two things on my mind these few days that I need some opinions/advice on

1. How do you yet things done/prioritise when u just have so much to finish? I need to set aside time to look for jobs, study for my driving exam, go on online courses whilst balancing a side job and stuff i love doing (reading etc). I feel so overwhelmed. Any tips would help!

2. Why on earth do married men/divorced men with kids flirt with/hit on much younger women at their workplaces? Has anyone been in such a situation before and how did u deal?

When I had many different things to do at the same time (I was being jobless so my schedule was completely blank lol but I think it could be adapted anyway), I would settle a tight schedule + small (but precise) objectives for every scheduled activity. For example I settled on two hours of job searching every morning (after waking up early) by working on at least one job offer and one cover letter (I was barely motivated so it would take me a loooot of time, hence why I settled on a low objective to be sure I'll do it, and won't feel guilty for not doing much more), but I also booked the beginning of my afternoon for things I loved, like reading (or napping lmao). If I really have to do it again, I'll buy a big agenda to plan all the activities with a colour code + write the archivement at the end of every activity. I think it could help you organise your free time and not feel to overwhelmed.

Most men think everything owns them attention + they're generally not the one taking care of the kids, they have time to harrass TT
If someone at your work is being annoying/intimidating, I've read that emailing yourself everything he has said and done right after it happened helps being listened to, either to show him that he's really going to far and needs to stop, or to show Human Ressources/a superior that there is a problem that needs to be solved. I hope you'll be allright :(

It's been raining all week here and I love it but I kinda hope it doesn't rain next week bc I'm going to be staying in a lady's house taking care of her dogs all week. At least I'll have enough quiet to concentrate on my essay I guess.

I'm someone who gets upset easily and remembers said things which upset me forever (no, really, I will often remember the sad parts of some Harry Potter fanfiction I read some 12 years ago)
If only I had this kind of recalling power when it comes to studying, but noooo, my brain would rather use its powers for evil than good :/ (I also have the habit of going through every single horror movie I've ever watched before falling asleep...)
So anyway, I was on a lookout for a fix-it-fic, which I did not find, and stumbled upon a discussion of 'would you stay, leave, or save the child?'
Aaaand it upset me even more. Because most people said they would stay and I'm just...how? You'd really have a child suffer horrificly so you could continue living in utopia? Because, unless I read it wrong, nowhere does it say you would live in the same conditions as the child, should said child get freed. You'd just no longer live in utopia, but I guess, a normal life? But even if your life got worse than 'normal', e.g. even less happiness than the 'normal' amount, it still doesn't excuse torturing an innocent child.
Am I the only one who thinks this way? ;A;

i just finished reading it and i'm with you on this. i understand how it's easy to say so when you are a person who has lived a 'normal' life since you were born - i don't think any of my troubles would be worth erasing if it meant such terrible life for a child, but i guess it would be a herder decision for someone who has lived in that utopia all their life and they are afraid of the 'normal' life to the point they don't think they'd manage to survive it. I can understand that kind of reasoning but since i'm sure most people are answering from my persective (know how the 'normal' life looks like) it's pretty sad that so many people say they wouldn't save the child.

I wonder what kind of people say that though, because the experience of a 'normal' life is so incredibly different depending on your situation. I'm a queer woman for example and I live in a country where almost everyone is homophobic, gay marriage will maybe be legal after I'm dead and I still wouldn't be able to be personally responsible for such suffering even if it meant people aren't ignorant anymore. I might be completely wrong about this, but I feel like people who say they'd leave the child as it is are mostly quite privileged.

sooo i decided to quit uni. i am terrified to tell my parents even though i know they won't be like, angry or sth. i already have bechelors but i honeslty feel like a masters in korean studies is a waste of time. i can't go to work bc we have classes every day (i tried working on weekends but i didn't have a single day free and it was exhausting) but i want to work already. and i feel like at this point i can continue with learning korean myself so there really isn't anything that would keep me from resigning except for getting a masters as fast as i can but... i don't care about it that much. i can work full time till october and go to uni again, but this time i'd be studying something that only takes two days in a week, so I could be studying for free and work at the same time, which honeslty sounds pretty nice.

i know it's not a bad idea but i'm still afraid to tell anyone. tbh i also feel bad about leaving bc our professors are great and i love them and they will be sad and i'm a weak weak person who wants my professors to be happy lmao

it seems like you've really thought it through and you're standing behind your choice which is a great plus point. maybe you should start out telling just one person? like someone whose opinion you don't value that much or a friend that you know would react positively to your choice. or you can start with just one teacher. you have to start somewhere eventually. i do hope you can pluck up the courage to do so, and i think it's great that you managed to make such an important choice for yourself <3

Good Morning Omona!

I'm currently trying to get back into my workout routine after taking a long depression fueled break lmao. My arms feel like two big bruises at the moment. But I'm planning on going to Vegas in August and I wanna look hot.


I'm really looking forward to the BTS concert in march because I'm going to get a room and stay the whole weekend in Chicago because I need a BREAK. I hate one of my jobs and I can't leave since I'm under contract but it's only a few more months until school is done and then I will peace sign emoji out of there. The second income is really nice since I use it to help out with my family but it's honestly not worth it since i wake up every morning depressed that I have to go in.

I'm getting anxious because I thought I would be able to save money to help move but since too many things happened within my family I am no closer to my goal of trying to leave in the summer. Everyone tells me "you just have to do it!" but i'm like....how sway?

Using quizlet to make online flashcards so I can look at them on my phone any time I have a spare moment (brainscape is a good online flashcard maker too). And also writing and re-writing on a white board. Nearly gave me carpal tunnel but saved me on all my anatomy exams.

i think it would be useful to mention 1) useful vocab or tips for purchasing bus tickets --there is more to korea than seoul ofc and bus tickets are very reasonable priced as well as 2) celeb restaurants cafes and 3) useful navigation apps (namely naver maps and the subway app)
