The "girl crush" concepts are aimed mostly towards female fans.
I'm a male fan and I get so annoyed over this concept...


Ugh!... please let's go back like before and have concepts like sexy, cute or innocent.
I wish that there were more concept like these now..

when making research about the origin of 'girl crush' concept .... i found out with various ideas
and one that saddly repeated a lot was LGBTQ complaining "girl crush" was like an female version of "no homo bro"
since i'm hetero myself , i wouldnt know the diference but also i wouldnt use the term so freely since i came to understand lesbians point of view

it's extra funny because in some of those examples I feel like the general concept is still catering to heterosexual men/the male gaze anyway

edit: I really wish that female groups weren't designed by rigidly defined categories like sexy, innocent/cute, or "girl crush." I wish girl groups could just exist as normal groups and be themselves and not have to fit some kind of one-dimensional portrayal of women. I know there were categories for male groups a la flower boy, etc back in the day but I don't really see these used anymore; conversely, women are constantly debuted with one of the three aforementioned concepts (and sometimes, if they don't do particularly well, they'll switch between them).



tl;dr Korean pop companies really have zero creativity when it comes to conceptualizing girl groups. it makes me wish I could just go there and create my own to manage or something lmao (I especially would love if creative involvement by women was a selling point for female groups like it has become for male ones but lo and behold, I wonder why that isn't the case)

MTE, the simplistic view towards this on both sides is fucking exhausting. wow a woman is suddenly empowered~~ when she dresses like a caricature of a million other "tough" groups, meanwhile there's still a high chance of her being mistreated behind the scenes by a majority or all-male team of staff + producers and all the coins you spend supporting her are going there. Concepts like these are just as put on and orchestrated by men as anything else happening in K-pop and IDK what to say to people who want to act blind to that reality.

i think the term girl crush is used differently in korea (and i think in my country too, but i haven't read too many women's magazines recently): i feel that it's used to describe an image of a girl who you'd like to be/who you admire, not who you'd like to be with

Not to mention some of the "girl crush" groups listed still totally pander to men lmao every EXID comeback since Hani's viral video has basically been watered down fap material for dudes. Even girl crush concepts still center around conventionally attractive, scantily clad women doing sexualized dance moves (and often singing about dudes). Male fans literally have nothing to complain about.
