BESTie took part in a recent episode of ‘NOISEY‘ on VICELAND, and while talking with the show, they made the grave mistake of being honest about why they can’t have public relationships.

They slipped up a bit and got a tiny bit real while talking with a reporter, and their managers were not having that shit. They got mad because BESTie got too honest and didn’t keep up the facade, but funnily enough more telling was the reaction to the group in terms of what the environment is like.

bonus: netizen explains why idols shouldnt date

Explaining why idols shouldn't be in relationships in a controversial way

They debuted as products and not as human, does it make sense for them to be in relationships? They want to receive love and attention both from their fans and their lovers? Leave your group. If you want to date in freedom then just leave your group, I beg you.

Their annual incomes are mostly from their fans who are in 20s. How dare they to be in relationships when all of their fans starve theirselves and work hard to earn money to buy their albums? If I was an idol, I would laugh whenever I see the balance in my account, and I would get to sleep in peace everydayㅋㅋ F*ck

- I honestly don't care if they're dating or now.. I just hope they don't reveal it to the public, I know I might sound selfish but I hope they don't get caught by Dispatch..
- Whoa.. That's really harsh.. I was wondering if celebrities aren't human as well, but I kind of agree when the OP said that idols debuted as products and not as human..
- How should I put this into words.. I have nothing against them being in relationship, it's just because I'm single..
- Products like you need to stop talking about idols in this manner..
- I don't care.. Just as long as they don't get caught by the public..
- No one cares about them being in relationships or not.. It's because they always acting really obvious and attract Dispatch or The Fact to reveal it..
- Celebrities are human too.. They're not products..
- I just hope they stop giving hints and being so obvious about it..
- It's true that they are products.. The moment they get caught in relationships, the quality of the products will fall down..
- I don't know about anything else but I can't believe you call them products..
- I don't think this is right..
- I just hope things like Dispatch don't exist.. I don't even want to know about idols' relationships..
- How could they not get caught when the paparazzis and the sasaeng fans are following them 24/7..
- If I was an idol, I probably would never be in relationships.. I mean, I'm not even dating anyone right now.. And being in relationship isn't everything..
- The words are really harsh but I kind of agree..
- The last sentence slapped me really hard..
- It's okay as long as they don't get caught.. That's the best both for the idols and the fans..
- Products..? I think it's really harsh to call them as products..
- Dispatch is the real problem right here..
- Where's the controversial part of this post..?
- It's okay as long as they don't betray their own fans..
- To be honest, I don't really care if they're in relationships or not.

some of those comments are disturbing but not atypical. i've seen journalists say the same thing and not get chewed out. idg how you can even be resentful of bestie when they are barely even active... i'm just happy to see them. i love the shot of them at the end they look like they're in an indie sitcom intro. they need to come back as soon as possible. what is their company waiting for?

Why should bestie have to lie when they're speaking the truth - that fans have a warped concept of relationships with their idols and are possessive over a celebrity they will never meet?

"How dare they to be in relationships when all of their fans starve theirselves and work hard to earn money to buy their albums?" LMAOOOOOOOO literally NO ONE is forcing these grown ass adults to work ~so hard and drop like $12 on an album...i can't breathe this is the only thing i got out of this post tbh

i'm here for all idols willing to admit how cynical this whole dating bans sounds specially when you try to explain it out of asia .... or just out of the fandom culture .... you need to be too deep into some fandom to think this is normal or right

actually after this post on asianjunkie i was a watching the whole episode because i needed more context for all this "Taeyang the justin bieber from korea" lmao

actually what the girls said sounds a lot better than what their ugly manager suggested. korean ppl are sensitive?? nah their idols aren't people. go off

I hope they weren't starved or hit for this.... *9m documentary flashbacks*

mte saying koreans are sensitive might have pissed people off more bc they're ~making koreans look bad in front of foreigners by generalizing~ so tbh I don't see anything wrong with what they said originally

The entitled mindset that some people have regarding celebrities/idols will never not be weird/gross to me, I'm glad that a lot of the comments seem to be criticizing what the person said but the people against them dating in pubic need to chill

Dating bans are awful and it's a shame idols have to be (mostly) secretive about their private lives. The idols-are-products line of thinking is extremely hurtful.

Celebrities shouldn't have to consider their fans' ~feelings~ anyway when it comes to their private lives. Being on tumblr has taught me even the apparently most sane of fans can get crazy jaelous when it comes out their fave is dating, and that's all THEM and not the idol. People need to let that expectation of having a chance with their idol go.

wow why am i reading 2 posts today filled with male entitlement..... looking at hem performing for soldiers makes me realize how kpop is so ingrained in government propaganda.

happy to see bestie still exists! i hope they'll have a comeback soon and are treated well by their company

Date: 2017-02-06 10:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] arysthaeniru.livejournal.com
THIS tbh, that's why i feel very worried and happy when idols critique the government, bc so much of kpop is used/dependant on/sponsored by the government to give a particular image/boost morale/aid as propaganda.

From: [identity profile] miwa201.livejournal.com
ugh. bestie said nothing wrong, everyone knows that they're right. what's important is where their comeback is.

in an ideal world idols would be able to date like 1d did. yes, they girls got lots of hate, but at least they dated in the open and didn't have to pretend they never dated anyone

Date: 2017-02-05 02:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] spainawards2008.livejournal.com
It will probably happen eventually. Celebrities, especially singers, weren't supposed to be caught dating in western countries either until relatively recently

it's getting there. dispatch actually did change the game a bit by spilling tea on dozens of celebs. in the past se7en lost a third of his fanbase for coming clean...now you have celebs like Krystal and Kai dating yet promoting just fine.

And OFC idols are actual people, TF?! It's not like most of them even make that much money so why not let them live??

those staff + managers need to keep their mouths closed jeesh, what the girls said was def less worse than what the managers wanted them to say, love how they didn't cut that part and showed the true colours of those men though i feel bad that they might suffer from this ;-;

and omg netizens don't be so nasty, all people are humans, so yes also idols are humans, they have the same rights as you and i. i do get that fans don't wanna know about their fave dating + it's def more benefical to keep it underwraps (for fans, idol + person they are dating) but they do have the right to be happy too ;; just sucks that there sites + saesangs dedicated to reveal every single detail of idols lives -.-

From: [identity profile] suggestivepeach.livejournal.com

I found it hard to believe that there are ppl out there who don't even consider idols to be human, but tbh it shouldn't be all that surprising to me. Certain fans, especially when it comes to dating, act as if they're entitled to have a say in what their faves do in their private lives and it's all because they buy albums? If that's not treating idols like products, idk what is. :/
The idea that they're "betraying" their fans by openly dating is so gross to me.

The moment they get caught in relationships, the quality of the products will fall down..

This is a gross ass statement and reminds me of that lock/key saying that men have when girls decide to have sex with as many people as they want. Fan entitlement is ridiculous and it spans all cultures tbh. Celebrities are humans as well and deserve to being in fulfilling relationships. Hell, even ones where they're just fucking around. I'm here for idols not giving a fuck 2k17. It is a new era and life is short go fall in love goddammit.

I'm so thirsty for Bestie I latched onto this real quick. I really need a comeback to happen and for these girls to be recognized as the queens they are.

I agreed with your comment other than the "They've earned this treatment" statement. I don't really think most of them have any idea what they're getting into when they become trainees considering they're usually children. And then before you know it they've racked up trainee fees they have to pay off whether they want to do this anymore or not.

I though what they said was common knowledge for k-pop fans so I don't get why that was such an awful answer for them to give.. and as someone else pointed out, I don't think the mangers answer was better than what they girls said in any way.. 'sensitive'.. lol bullshit

I do wish they could date in public if they so wanted to and was not banned from doing so by their agencies, but rather that it'd be up to them. Personally, I just don't like drama and a dating scandal always causes drama and I just don't think what they do in their free time is any of my business so I never really got why going public is such an important thing.. but then again, if they feel better by doing so why should they not?

Oh, and also - did KNK's Youjin just casually look into the room and was shown as one of their many male managers? lol

Sometimes I can't believe some people like this exist. Humans as "products"? Are you for real? This kind of thinking is just too delusional and insane. With idols' schedules, pay, and fans like these, they're superhumans to tolerate such madness.
