CL Shares How 2NE1’s “Goodbye” Was Originally Written For Minzy

After the release of 2NE1’s last single “Goodbye,” CL sat down for an interview to talk about the song.

CL talked about the song’s lyrics, saying, “After Minzy left YG, the three of us were preparing for a new album. At the time, I wrote this song as if it was a letter to Minzy. I adjusted [the lyrics] so that it was a message to Minzy as well as a message to the fans at the same time.”

The singer continued, saying, “[The first time] I heard this song, lyrics [about Minzy] just came to my mind and I cried. The lyrics pretty much came from my tears.”

CL also talked about the regret surrounding 2NE1’s disbandment, especially since she was part of the group for seven years. “I’ve known the members for 10 years,” CL said. “During that time, we made a lot of memories and worked on a lot of things together. I’m really going to miss them. But I believe that it was a reasoned decision. And even though it’s regrettable, I hope each of us is able to work our way through the separate paths we take.”

Meanwhile, 2NE1’s “Goodbye” was released on January 21 and is receiving an enthusiastic response.

This isn't the full interview that was posted on Facebook yesterday. It doesn't mention how YG called off CL's solo album so she could come back to Korea and work on 2NE1's album and how they were going to just continue on as three till YG pulled the plug.

Cl wrote the song for minzy and fans when they were preparing for the comeback as three members and recorded the song..but the comeback didnot happen
That is why minzy is not informed

I read Minzy's "I wasn't informed" is a "y'all didn't even ask me to be a part of this, but now y'all pretending to care about me". Yeah I agree with some of the K-netizens...sounds like a bunch of media play to be honest... I love how they start talking about OT4 and Minzy once the disbandment was announced and a comeback song was released...honestly it just sounds like they are trying to save face. Especially since I assume they all want to continue doing music. They don't want to get on K-netizens or blackjacks bad side like Minzy is.

Also why is that K-netizens talking about which member to took care of which...why is that relevant to rather or not one story is more believable than the other? CL was the leader of 2ne1 most leaders do assume the responsibility of taking care of the other members and Minzy was the youngest almost 10 years younger than Bom and Dara. It makes a difference.

Minzy clearly has issues with the other group members, and I can't dismiss her reactions thus far since Idk what happened. She was the maknae, so the problems could have piled up, and she might not have been able to get it out. It has to be something for Minzy's friends/family to have this vendetta against homegirl.

I have people from my old job who still say nice things about me and treat me nicely, to seem as the bigger person, when they know I don't like them. And I have reason not to.

I'm not saying I don't believe CL, but I saw this and couldn't control my eyes rolling. Nobody needed this info, because it could backfire on her. We don't know what all she's done as a leader behind closed doors, true. But from the outside looking in, most people deduce that as a leader, she didn't know how to keep her group from falling apart (and I mean long before Bom's incident) or maintain a good enough relationship so that if something like this happened, a member wouldn't harbor ill feelings.

The intentions were probably genuine, but as to not make more waves, she should have kept this info to herself.

Let's see 3 members are still in excellent relations Bom and Dara constantly speak about how good of a leader and a friend CL was amd still is and despite not being in the company or the group Bom and no one close to her ever spoke ill of CL. And yet here you are creating a fanfic in your head about whether she could have possibly done more or wronged Minzy in some way, same Minzy who unfollowed all the members long before she left the group. Same Minzy who refused to acknowledge the group or the members only to show up 20 hours before the song dropped to speak up and mention "CL Dara and Bom unnies". Like the other user said, Bom -the one most thrown under the bus for all intents and purposes- has been supportive of CL even after she was fired from YG, which imo is the biggest indicator of ~the truth~ here. Minzy clearly has issues with CL still but so far signs point to them being misplaced anger more than anything else. Ofc, we can't know for sure what really went down, even CL here is tip-toeing around it, so until something new is revealed I choose to side with CL's word and Bom + Dara's supportive actions.

I'm not gonna dismiss the girl's anger, even if it's misplaced. My point is, she's clearly upset about something, whether it be at one member, all members, or YG. I've always gotten the impression that those three were closer anyway, so yeah, they would be supportive of CL. That doesn't mean Minzy's reasons for being angry aren't valid, or CL's actions as a leader weren't genuine.

I'm just saying what it appears to be, not what it IS, from the outside looking in. Perspective is what I'm trying to get at. This looks different to me and you. CL is probably right and she's being a good leader, but if Minzy has such anger, then to her it's like, BITCH WTF IS THIS?! Lol.

Well I do agree it's probably bad timing on CL's part.

I think Minzy's anger (my pure speculation) might be due to the fact that she was kind of the invisible member in 2NE1. While she is a good performer she lacked Bom's off screen charm or Dara's rabid fanbase or CL's charisma. Like I love the girl but she was lacking in many respects and didn't hustle like Seungri so YG didn't toss her a solo like he did the others. Prob just professional jealousy, I don't think it's complicated

Came here to say this. It's so ridiculous that people keep blaming Bom for the breakup when GD has had drug scandals too, yet YG kept promoting him to make them stand out less. He essentially shoved Bom in the basement so that the last thing they would remember was the scandal. It's so sad, because I already fear for her mental health and then here come the netizens blaming her for the disbandment.

I blame YG for this entire mess, he treated them like crap. Minzy did what she felt was right, most likely did not see herself getting out of the basement anytime soon. Dara was doing stuff, Bom was doing whatever it was she was doing and CL was working on a Solo. I think it's good that Minzy got out of that toxic situation. Blackpink will follow the same eventually too, YG just doesn't have luck with any group beyond BIGBANG. And don't get me wrong 2NE1 was my all time favorite girl group and it pains me to see them gone, but I am not surprised.

Also how is Blackpink not 2NE1? They have the same style also 4 members, 2 rappers, 2 singers. Boombayah is basically Fire 2.0, Playing with Fire is I don't Care 2.0. I'm trying for the life of me to think what category Dara would be in since she almost never had lines. It was essentially 1 singer (Bommie) and 2 rappers/singers (Minzy & CL) with sometimes an autotuned line from member number 4. Granted, that's not completely Daras fault because they always covered her lines in lives with prerecorded, but like.... If Dasom can get better and actually sing live, then anyone can.
