YG remains classy, try to blame 2NE1 disbandment on BOM

In an interview with Yonhap News on January 17, YG head Yang Hyun Suk dished on BIGBANG’s plans for this year, 2NE1’s disbandment, political scandals, and more.

When asked about having BIGBANG, the agency’s biggest group, go on hiatus (excluding solo activity), Yang Hyun Suk said, “BIGBANG has grown to a scale the likes of which I never imagined. Everyone is worried about BIGBANG going on hiatus. But the members have their own, very successful, solo careers. They’ll be focusing on solo promotions this year; G-Dragon’s passion for his solo work is outstanding, and Seungri is preparing a solo album for March. Daesung will be doing a dome tour in Japan, and Taeyang is also preparing a solo album.”

Regarding the sudden disbandment of 2NE1, Yang Hyun Suk said, “When Gong Minzy moved to a different agency, I wanted to save 2NE1. What led to the decision to disband the group was the state of Park Bom’s mental health. After ‘the incident (Park Bom’s drug scandal),’ the criticisms we received were endless. But in addition to the stress and guilt from that, I’m sure Park Bom would have felt a strong determination to continue 2NE1. I told her, ‘2NE1 is important, but I wish for you to be healthy, both mentally and physically.'” Yang Hyun Suk said it may not be the end for 2NE1: “You never know what can happen; it’s possible they’ll get back together like S.E.S. It may not be as long of a break [as S.E.S], but I’m thinking there’ll be a day when the reunion happens.”

Yang Hyun Suk also spoke out about the political rumors he was pulled into, in which he was rumored to be involved with Choi Soon Shil and receiving governmental favors. Yang Hyun Suk said he has no time for politics: “Being in the entertainment business, I was careful about leaning toward one side or another, so I purposefully avoided [politics]. There was a time during President Lee Myung Bak’s administration when I was to receive a presidential award, but I didn’t even go because I didn’t want to take my hat off. They came and delivered it to my office. I’m so busy doing what I love; I have no interest in things related to politics.”

I dunno did you bother to ask her? I'm sure she'd rather have a steady paying career than to be unemployed with no coins coming in. Cause you know, having no income totally helps with mental health. Plus promoting instead of being absent for 2 years would have curbed the whispering. I appreciate how YG tried to defend Bom when the news first came out but him eventually backing down sealed the deal. GD kept on promoting and Big Bang survived. 2ne1 could have done the same.

Honestly I don't even like many of 2ne1's songs so no to that blackjack mentality. Bom says herself she still wants to be a singer and is preparing material so if she still wants to keep going then let her. The point is she'll get hate regardless but promoting will at least put some distance on her scandal and give people other things to talk about. Putting her on pause for 2 years did not work as planned as it makes it seem more guilty than she is.

Exactly. While what Bom did was illegal she at least had a legit reason for taking those medications. GD "didn't realize" it was weed and smoked some (which is bull cause weed stanks so you know it ain't tobacco). GD still gets shit for it today but because he kept going his music overshadowed it. Bom is prized for her unique vocals so she could have kept going, which it seems like she wants to. Had YG downplayed it like GD's case people would have went back to the Sewol Ferry tragedy.

How do you not understand that there's is a HUGE difference between saying Bom's mental health affected the group career, or that her "scandal" affected their reputation and saying "Bom is the reason why 2NE1 is disbanding" or "Taehyun is the reason winner didn't have any activity" (when the boy has been releasing music during the whole fucking time)

It's not that we are ignoring their mental issues, it's just not YG's place to put it on blast. If they themselves want to speak about the struggles of balancing depression and work then fine but for YG to put most of the blame on lack of promotions on their mental issues is BS. YG in general tends to put artists on the backburner for years so few are buying his words. It's just flat out belittling.

Oh and BTW I was axed from a bank job last year where depression played a part. My ex boss flat out belittled me and stated "I probably need a more menial job" and the company sided with her when I fought back instead of acknowledging the fact she's demeaning in general and her yelling at me over the pettiest things (such as being a minute late from lunch) helped push me over the edge. Many coworkers and customers complained about her rude words. Hell one said she felt like crawling into a hole after speaking with her and another said she had to walk out to her car and cry.

The fact is many act as if a person going a mentally challenging time are not capable of doing just as much as someone who is not going through anything. Taehyun releases music, Bom is preparing music, and I'm attending school full time and have always received praises from previous bosses.
