This picture was taken after the recording for Music Bank ended

The person these idols were waiting for was the PD of Music Bank. They were supposed to go to the PD's waiting room and greet them by bowing 90 degrees and shouting their groups' signature chant. That was the reason all these idols stood in lines and waited for around 30 minutes..
-What about the veteran singers..? Do they also have to wait for 30 minutes?
-I heard singers like Baek Jiyoung usually just leave without greeting the PDs..
-I can understand.. Since they have to look good in front of the PDs..
-Looking by how there were Twice and Seventeen in the pictures, I think the picture was taken recently.. But why, though..? I mean, it's not like those PDs are some kings or whatsoever.. Standing in lines for around 30minutes means that idols get more chance to see each other, I don't really like the idea of that!!
-I hope this culture will disappear as the time passes by..ㅋㅋㅋ
-PD.. This is why I dream of being a PD..
-I don't care whether if that's an obvious thing to do or not, but it doesn't look good from the Third Person Point of View.. PDs serve the idols stage for them to perform, and the idols perform on the show to raise the viewership ratings.. Don't you think that's a win-win condition..?
-That's fascinating..
-That's just like how models line up to thank the designer after a fashion show ends..
-They stand like that for around 30 minutes..?? That must be really tiring..
-I can see Pentagon and Seventeen..ㅜㅜ
-I can see my babies..
-Greeting the PDs is a good thing to do.. But I don't think it's a really nice thing to do to make them stand in lines and wait for 30 minutes..
-I seriously can't understand this..
-Ah.. It's my first time hearing about this culture..
-Whoa!! Those are the back of my babies' heads!!
-Dahyun looked so bright in that picture.. She's cute!
-Am I the only one who can't accept this whole culture..? I just can't understand it..
-I don't understand why they have to do this..
-Do they do this everyday..?

This doesn't surprise me but I feel sorry for them, the amount of time idols spend at music shows would be exhausting and this is completely unnecessarily adding to that.

sbs staff could share the amount of "cash tributes" every agencie gives to their network, we know that is even more important than any 90 degrees bow

Date: 2017-01-09 04:29 pm (UTC)lol I studied that, but totally for different reasons so I agree. I don't know how to translate it at english but one part of my career was to learn how to direct a show (so basically being the PD).

Date: 2017-01-09 04:54 pm (UTC)The actual job that comes with the title of the PD is as serious, demanding, and respectful as any. But saying "THIS is why I dream of becoming a PD" under a picture of idols being, well, mistreated by the power of higher-ups, implies that their dream is to abuse said power over people/potential celebrities (which is worldwide the entertainment industry's #1 problem by far; take the sponsors case in korean entertainment for instance). It's not a reach to make imo.

Date: 2017-01-09 02:58 pm (UTC)it still baffles me how idols, THE moneymakers of the industry (without idols no money for the companies) still get treated like kids. can you imagine something like this in the US or the UK? companies, managers, PDs etc. have so much power, even if you're a household name in korea you still get treated like a child.

Date: 2017-01-10 12:59 am (UTC)In kpop it's like the other way around -- the management company does everything in-house from artist management, recording albums, publicity, press, booking and arranging tours, providing stylists and housing, absolutely everything as well as trained the idols from when they were pretty young so the idols become wholly dependent on them. Kpop management companies do this specifically to exert as much control over their product -- the idols -- as possible.

It's their managers that should be doing this so their idols can drive home at a safe speed and get some food and rest.

Date: 2017-01-09 03:39 pm (UTC)So basically, greetings is really big in kpop. It doesnt stop with junior groups greeting the seniors. It extends to show PDs too.

Date: 2017-01-09 07:01 pm (UTC)Now, there are a whole bunch more groups. It's to the point where PD's have to cut some of the idols who want to be promoted. And still, about half of the groups that make the cut can only partially sing their song. So the best way to avoid that is for groups to be popular, come from a company with power, and/or be well liked by the PD's. That's why back when Girls day wasn't popular and they were from a small company, they still promoted a lot on broadcasts and got to do full versions. PD's liked Mina so they kept their spot on programs even when they were charting.
