Debuting an idol group can cost a lot of money, but upcoming girl group LOONA (stylized as LOOΠΔ) has raised things to another level.

According to media estimates, upcoming girl group LOONA has already spent about four billion won (~$3,327,600 USD) before the group has even made their debut. In preparation for their debut, the group has filmed several teasers, filming overseas at locations in France, Japan, London, and more.

While preparing for the group’s debut, members also released individual music videos as well. So far, member Heejin’s debut had a solo song, music video and teaser. According to a music video producer who took a look at her video, he estimated that the video would have cost more than 100,000,000 won and that the posters of her at bus stops would have cost the company an additional 50,000,000 won.

People were wondering why they had so much money when they were a new group. Experts stated that this group’s pre-debut production is the biggest ever. In comparison, JYP Entertainment‘s hit girl group TWICE reportedly cost the company only 500,000,000 won. With so much investment in the group by their agency Blockberry Creative‘s parent company Ilgwang Polaris, there is a lot of anticipation for LOONA’s future releases.

I know some users have commented about their debut cost but wow this is crazy... Someone on reddit said one of their parents owns the parent company which creates weapons for the government.

goddamn
imagine if they flop with all that investment... well, actually, even if they flopped they could probably still stay active as long as they wanted since the cash flow is neverending

Excuse the ignorance, but isn't this normal or "within range" for an idol group?

I'm asking because I read an article (I'll link it if I find it) stating that SNSD cost 2-3 mil for each member.

That's not true, this numbers are taken from "Unnies" episode where JYP said preparing a comeback cost around that. No one from JYPE talked about cost of debuting Twice, and it's probably higher than usual considering that they have their own exclusive team of staff.

I'm pretty sure it can usually get into the millions, but also millions to the Big Three probably doesn't mean as much. They have their cash cows who can probably make that money back easily i.e. Big Bang.

It also probably depends on the trainee period. Like Jessica & Hyoyeon probably cost more because they were trainee's for 7 years.

This... just seems like a bad business model lol.

Meanwhile, NamTae and I are in a group that also hasn't debuted and we have spent a single Won yet, bow @ our fiscal responsibility!

Didn't Polaris' parent company get charged with embezzlement? I guess this is where that money went.

they better have used the money to get the best producers, songwriters and choreographers.... idk why spend so much on posters when they have nothing official out yet....

Well, they have five highly-produced MVs out already. I'd say that's official. It's just not the entire group yet.

well, tbh it's getting people talking and i guess that's kind of the point? especially in an oversaturated industry like kpop, where groups debut all the time and most never really amount to anything.

also OT but your icon is so perfect

as a fan i gotta say that im a bit worried and the fact that i see a lot of people on twitter being a bit cocky at this group got me like :/ i think they are focusing too much in the quality of their mv's, choreography etc which is great on coming up with great things, but they're forgetting to advertise them and the fact that theyre going to different countries/cities is still just crazy to me, imagine if they flopped and they dropped them like what other peeps did to wjsn.

Date: 2017-01-09 03:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mylovebelt.livejournal.com
i hope that doesnt happen to them. wjsn's hype was real in a lot of places i looked at then they dropped mo mo mo and the support vanished. i don't blame them tho mo mo mo was bad, i willed myself to like it lmao

I don't get the point in having random posters? Like it doesn't seem like money well spent to me? They don't even seem to say the groups name or purpose.....

Also I feel that unless you're bundling an overseas shoot with a concert or photo book it's not cost effective at all. Nice looking MV's are cool but don't end up like BAP.

So by the time their group debut co.es around they'll have put out well over 10 million usd? Good luck earning that money back.

wow that's a looot of money, is this 4 million so far or 4 million in total for the 12 months? i hope it works out for them. i like the aesthetics of their group so far, although i've only listened to the first to songs. we'll see ig

I really hope that they'll do well. I think the MVs they've released so far have definitely shown that they're super talented. This is an insane amount of money to spend pre-debut but I hope people won't hold it against the girls themselves...

i don't even want to think of the consequences if they flop tbh.

jeez, i hope they make it big. They're music is pretty damn good and they have potential! It'd be a shame for them to flop, all that money down the drain.

"With so much investment in the group by their agency Blockberry Creative‘s parent company Ilgwang Polaris [...]"
I am gonna be that person and just say: When will this parent company invest into Ladies' Code and give them decent icons, headers and just graphics in general?

Image

Despite that I am still in awe how many pretty MVs Loona has released already and the members have great visuals and seem very cute but other than that I really haven't seen much of their vocal or dancing skills. I just hope they won't flop and won't disappoint after all this build-up.

I'm guessing none of the members in Ladies Code have arms dealers for parents who have made millions making shit that can kill people. Therefore, they get first-grader MS Paint effort.
