2016 is not done yet (2 weeks left!) but phew, what kind of a wild ride was this year? It almost feels like 2k16 wanted to steal 2k14's crown of being the messiest year in history. From KARA, 4minute, RAINBOW and 2NE1 disbanding to G.Na being swept up in a sponsor scandal (which has unfortunately ended her career), from Yoochun and his sexual assault case to the drama-worthy corruption scandal - there was barely time to catch breath.

The good sis showminomoney messaged me on twitter and suggested a prediction post for 2017, and I'm totally down for that! According to my research there was no official post last year, we only had two posts with a few predictions in the comment sections (Special Panel Predicts Which Idols Will Rise to the Top in 2016 and 2015, The Best Kpop Year Since 2009?). However, it's easier for us to look back next year with an official list, so I want you to comment your predicitions for 2016 down below. I'm gonna collect them all and update this post with all/the most popular suggestions (tomorrow or so). To make things easier for you, here's a post by sayuridoll with all the idol groups whose contracts are set to expire in 2017.

So tell me now, OMONA: What shit will go down in 2017? Will After School finally escape the dungeon and bless us with another comeback? Will CL rise to the top and become the new US hephap queen? Will Lay another EXO member join the exodus movement? And most importantly: Will S(o)M(ebody) finally #stoptiffany2k17?

that's kinda how i feel, tbh. (or mostly how i feel as someone who routinely calls out their faves when they fuck up lol) like the list would have to be either extensive or multiple parts because i can flat out think of at least one thing that someone from all of the groups that i listen to (which is most) have done but i jest.

Predictions

1) A prominent male actor will get caught in the middle of President Park Geun-Hye's scandal.

2) EXO will shrink to 8 members... but Lay will stay.

3) EXO's gay members will remain in the closet.

4) Even with I.O.I. disbanded, we will hear plenty from Somi in 2017.

5) Somi's father will have a scandal, though :(

6) Kim Se Jeong will be the most successful I.O.I. girl, but Chungha (and Somi somewhat) will give her a run for her money.

7) BTS will continue to make better music than EXO.

8) BTS will put out a repackage of Wings, and a new EP later in the year.

9) Without a brand new full album from BTS, EXO will still beat them in sales, but 2017 will mark the last year of EXO's reign.

10) A new Kollywood (my trademark) POWER COUPLE will form and it will set Omona ablaze. Interestingly, the woman will be multiple years older than the male.

11) Amber from F(X) will officially come out as lesbian. Netizens will falsely suggest she is hooking up with Charice.

12)YG will get its shit together.... JUST KIDDING!

Nothing to do with Kpop, but I want 2017 to be the year I will graduate college, and permanently go to la la land, ignore everything else that isn't the things I like.

However, I want some comebacks from my favorite groups (Kpop and non-kpop) I wish BoA would release more Jpop music, and I want BLACKPINK to release a full album.

i'm terrible at the guessing game normally, but one thing i've been having a gut feeling about: akmu!changhyuk is gonna have to keep on pushing back when he wants to enlist because of yg and his foolishness. i'd be surprised if he enlisted earlier than fall.

comeback wise: i think we'll get a big soshi release around their tenth anni in august, and that we'll see comebacks from both f(x) and red velvet before the start of summer. tvxq will start teasing a korean comeback around the end of next year, and it'll either be the same with super junior or they'll actually have one at the end of the year (minus kyuhyun and ryeowook). girl's day will finally have that comeback they've been pushing back for like a year. t-ara will have a successful c/b!!!!!! nine muses will either add on more members (again) or sungah will peace out and it'll just be the subunit.

groups i see "rising": bestie (if their comeback ever happens), wjsn (thanks to cheng xiao), nct more if sm can figure their shit out with them, pledis girls (if they actually debut).

solo debuts: onew (and i have a feeling it'll be before spring), taeil (like block b!taeil), maybe someone from mamamoo or exid, possibly krystal, jaekyung, another exo.

One thing I still will never understand about kpop disbandments is, in an industry with so much focus on making money, why disbandments don't come with like...a final tour, or a final song or something to make a last squeeze of the dough and leave fans with a sense of closure?
I say this because there are so many second gen groups set to expire in 2017 and 2016 has already been a shitstorm because of these just being so sudden (to the point where even the members aren't aware of their own disbandment? like wtf) and I see the trend continuing...

as for actual predictions, I think more and more dating rumours are going to be exposed, since the South Korean Government has so many issues they'll face now that they've impeached Park and are trying to clean up their government. I doubt that the SK government will lose that hold and use of the entertainment industry as a way to divert attention, it's the one thing that really helped them keep their shit under wraps.

I really want those sasaeng laws to be enforced more too, since lots of idols spoke up about how crazy sasaengs are in general this year, and since the law was only passed in feb 2016, there's a chance for enforcement to get bigger and bolder now.

EDIT: as for CBs, I'm going to foolishly wait for Jung Hana's solo to come this year, as I have for the last three years. I also think BTS will appear on a lot more variety shows, they've been pushing for that since the end of Hwarang, and they're really making a name for themselves. I also want Jin to star in a drama as a villain or something, but I doubt that will happen until after he's graduated university. B.A.P started getting attention back on them too, I think they're going to cement themselves as a VIXX level group. Everybody knows them and likes them, but they're not explosively popular anymore, like they once were.
I don't even know Twice very well, but I want them to rule all the charts anyway, since they've been breaking everybody's records so effortlessly now.

i think final tours/songs don't happen so much because disbandments are probably done on short notice. companies probably struggle to hold the groups together so they can make more $$$ but when it comes down to renewal time they either don't have the resources to do a profitable comeback/tour or the members say no.
in 4minute's case, they disbanded shortly after their comeback flopped, and cube even said their future was riding on the success of that cb. so they wouldn't want to have another one. some of the members might have also not wanted to go forward.
2ne1 were under yg which is a wasteland of baffling decisions where talented artists go to have their potential squandered, so who knows.

Day6 gets an all-kill with their new full-length album to be released in less than a month and becomes the biggest band in Korea, going on a worldwide tour that stops in my city where I go and I run into them on the streets, cry all over the members, and tell them how much I love them in person. The entire world recognizes their talent and rightly crowns them the new music kings.

my biggest prediction is that sm will realise nct's concept is too much for them to handle and they will stop after a chinese and japanese unit. however, my man will remain firmly in the basement. maaaaaaybe sr16g will debut next year in the second half.

exo will release another amazing album. we might get chansoo subunit? hopefully cbx do something again too or chen/baek will get a solo.
red velvet will continue to slay while being mistreated and unpromoted.
sungjae will truly Rise, fingers crossed the whole btob can properly rise with him and finally get invited to year-end awards.

that's all i have about my faves, don't really know about the others to make educated guesses.

Produce 101 2.0 will be a flop
- unless those boys are super cute, i don't think it'll be as successful as the original.
2017 will be a banner year for the YG babies (akmu, bp, ikon, winner, lee hi)
