"Train to Busan" to get a English remake

The popular Korean action film "Train to Busan" will be remade in English, its distributor said Thursday. NEW said the film's remake right was sold to France's Gaumont Film Company, a major global film studio behind such hit films as "Leon," "The Fifth Element" and "Point Blank."

"We are very happy to work with such a studio that has done various global projects in the past," Kim Woo-taek, the head of NEW said. "I hope this will provide moviegoers around the world an opportunity to get to know more Korean movies," he added. "Many studios from other nations have requested a remake contract with them, but we decided to go with Gaumont in the end," an official from NEW said.

"We will do our best to showcase an interesting movie to the American audience," said the French studio, while explaining how the team immediately fell in love with the movie as soon as they watched it at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the film depicts a group of passengers battling against an attack by people infected with a mysterious virus on a Busan-bound bullet train, which is no longer safe from the nationwide viral outbreak. It stars Gong Yoo, Kim Soo-an, Jung Yu-mi and Ma Dong-seok.

The zombie thriller had drawn more than 10 million moviegoers when it was released in local theaters in July.

oh my god LOL! I watched the original on the movie theater and liked it, so when they did the american version I downloaded it (not paying for that) and don't ask me anything about it because as it ended I deleted everything about it from my memory.

but that's the only american remake you have watched?! how it's physically possible?! lmao. They do remakes all the time, they cannot breathe if they don't do their own version of foreign films.

Why are Americans always so butthurt when something isn't about them? Not everything needs to be set in America, just watch the movie with subtitles, like everybody else.
(But seriously, can someone American please explain this to me? Remaking Asian movies I MAYBE understand a tiny bit...for those people who are too lazy to read subs. But why always remake British series? It's already in English, so why not just watch it? Or is it really because it's not America? Because recently I've met waaaay too many Americans who said they could never really get into Harry Potter, because it was set in Englang/Scotland and who are now FINALLY able to enjoy it because Fantastic Beasts is set in America. And so far, I've only met Americans who have that problem, everybody else seems to manage just fine.)

The is ridiculous. Also I thought we were past the zombie craze (with TWD franchise essentially keeping everything a float, and there being a couple of straggler series). It's super unnecessary and intentionally white washing (although im betting they will have a "diverse" cast) a very popular film. I've already seen major backlash so hopefully this just falls through and gets shelved.
