During the second episode of Celebrity Bromance with BAP's Youngjae, JB makes some homophobic comments when they talk about going together to a party room. Link to the video on Vapp.
A lot of people on Twitter are desperately clinging to someone saying it's a mistranslation when the homophobia is clear in more than just his words. His actions, reactions and general behaviour say a lot.
These kinds of people need to realise that trying to exempt your faves from criticism doesn't do anyone any good, and it just means you're complicit in normalising ignorance/bigotry. Saying he messed up and to forgive him is pointless, because unless you *attempt* to correct someone, then they won't realise they've done anything wrong and will repeat themselves.
even if the beating comment is a mistranslation (i'm too lazy to watch it), the rest isn't ('did your preference change' is literally written on the screen). boy is homophobic and needs to educate himself asap.
i watched that ep this morning and the entire thing was basically just jb going #nohomo. actually all the episodes i've seen of this program have been one friend into it while the other is uncomfortable with showing closeness with their friend *eye roll*.
I thought the Jackson x Jooheon episode was pretty good. I mean they were kind of uncomf in the first ten minutes but it was their first time hanging out outside work so I could kind of understand it. I think the first ep with Taehyung and that actor guy seemed nice as well but I've only seen gifs of that one. Most episodes have been agonizingly no homo though.
idk if you're mentioning mark because of his sister but she had her wedding recently! i'm willing to think his whole family is pretty liberal about LGBT issues because of her but who can say based on what little we really know
He is pretty "lol bro no homo", so I'm not surprised at the statement. Just because you are woke regarding certains matters doesn't mean there isn't more you have and /need/ to learn, especially outside the community you grew up in . He needs to learn that this statement is homophobic in its nature and not okay to say to anyone, regardless of them being heterosexual or homosexual. Check yourself, Jaebum - you aren't a dumbass but you need to open your mind and not be ignorant to matters that might not directly concern you. It might concern the teammates you love more than you probably realize. But also, check yourselves, people that are trying to make him out to be this violent homophobe. He is an ignorant homophobe. That last statement is lost in translation and makes his ignorant comment come off as abusive. It's NOT okay to be an ignorant homophobe, but it's also not okay to make accusations about physical abuse/violence. Call him out for the right shit. Pull him apart for being stupidly ignorant, not violent.
Not to defend him but Korea in general is very unaccepting of gay people although that's slowly changing (I have no idea how my dad accepted my coming out but I'll take it, even with the passive-aggressive comments about me praying for a wife). So it's not exactly surprising although I do realize that there are people in the K-pop world who aren't like this.
This just makes me sad cuz he was the reason I got into Got7 in the first place. :(
idk man I mean homophobia is still very present but the younger generation of idols have been coming out with supportive comments about lgbt left and right so I don't think this is really a viable excuse anymore, it seems like the younger generation of koreans is much less openly homophobic
I totally missed the 'did you change/should I watch out' when I first watched this too. I hope Jackson or someone sets him right on this, very disappointing.
Actually I saw someone in the thread I made for the ep suggesting writing to JYP about it? IDK what the best way to go about it is,or if they were even pay attention to something like that, but boys needs to be educated somehow. IDK maybe the TT stuff will blow up enough that it reaches him.
But I'm not defending him as a Got7 fan, just like the BamBam thing, he needs to learn about this stuff, drives me up the wall seeing all the 'oppa didn't mean it' bs that always happens.
I need to not go on twitter when it comes to stuff like this. One reply to the AKP article on twitter even said "He'll still be more successful than you" like lmao bitch wtf does that have to with homophobia (sorry idk how to insert pics)
i can't say this is surprising to me. he's always come across as having a very fragile masculinity imo. like being caught doing something that would make him not look like a "real man"? never
same, stuff like this has always made me side eye him a little even though i like him
jaebum's masculity is so fragile, imagine feeling like your masculinity is threatened because someone calls you pretty loool pic.twitter.com/YZQ6gwZgMh (https://t.co/YZQ6gwZgMh)

when will this group stop??? someone needs to save Jinyoung and Youngjae from this mess.
It's always funny to me when jyp stans say that jyp looks for people with good personalities rather that good voice or something like that. well look how that turned out.
wow, I missed that first comment. this just went from bad but maybe ignorant to straight up disgusting LOL ~~should I watch out~~ like all homosexuals are predators in the making
welp he's always been side eye worthy but I stuck around because he's beautiful. No more, Jackson is my bias now (I was always flip flopping between the two), not to say Jackson is perfect but he hasn't said he'd beat someone up for be gay. I can't believe he said that, even in jest. Why are, esp, straight guys like this???
i don't want to hear about all this "mistranslation~~~~" stuff because i'm korean and watching this without subs still got me uncomfortable with the way jb was handling the situation. his masculinity is so incredibly fragile and he definitely gives off homophobic vibes ugh.
anyway i can't believe i used to like got7 they prove time and time again how messy they are... at this point i'm bracing myself for the day my bias jinyoung fucks it all up and that makes me sad
how sad must men's lives be when their egos are so fragile they can't even form meaningful, affectionate friendships or go out to have fun together with other guys without going no homo
It is sad how much guys won't do to keep up appearances and I'll definitely blame society for this but I'll also blame individuals for being too caught up with their ego. Not totally relevant but I used to be such a poker face and eventually grew out of it and the single most important thing I've noticed from my change is that for a long lasting friendship simply being comfortable around your friend without feeling like you're going to get judged for being strange/dorky/different makes a world of a difference on whether you will search for them and keep putting in effort to be friends.

I was waiting for this to be posted because I just saw him on Twitter's TTs and everybody is already claiming mistranslation.
