I know Youngjae seemed to be having fun and playing along with the writing notes and stuff too. + it always bugs me when idols keep saying stuff like 'Oh we shouldn't be here we're two guys', so quick to make sure everyone knows they're straight like :/
i honestly hate it when they say that. and i realise that ALOT of korean male celebs like to do that. it's so hard to find someone to stan, someone who doesn't have that mindset
Why are you all glossing over how gross JB was being here? That comment about beating Youngjae up was unacceptable. He was so "omg no homo" the entire time, this show is about bromance, wtf was he expecting? I know yall thirst for him 24/7 but c'mon
Yeah, I agree. I was trying to be gentle with my comment above, but I was a little surprised more people weren't put off. He acted that way throughout the whole episode and even said stuff like 'don't say that. i'll beat you.' etc etc. I don't really follow GOT7 that much, but I'm a little surprised at the fragile masculinity on display by JB since a lot of the other members seem a lot more chill/cool about it.
I felt bad for Youngjae. Like he was kinda egging him on at some points, but I think he tried to defuse later pointing out that friends do this stuff together, too, etc.
It has everything to do with Omona's boner for JB. Any other idol behaving like this would get called out right away. I feel bad for Youngjae, he was clearly just teasing/being playful but JB was too in his fragile masculinity feels to go along. It was awkward to watch. And mte, the rest of GOT7 especially Jackson and BamBam would never be like this imo. Like I get not being into skinship or whatever but JB's reaction was just overblown.
Exactly, that just left a really bad taste in my mouth. And saying "A place like this isn't for two men" while in a couple's cafe. The connotations of that are just gross.
Oh I was rly sideyeing him over that comment, like 'why are you being like this c'mon dude'. Same with the Hard Carry ep, I was laughing AT how ridic. and yeah kinda gross he was being, I didn't mean to sound like I was laughing at it cos it was genuinely funny or nor taking it serious.
Basically I'm terrible at articulating myself, but I agree.
I'm a hardcore stan of him but the caps on twitter made me so frustrated Maybe he was pulling some sort of "tsundere" act for this show (since he didn't seem to mind being all cute in a "date" with GOT7's Youngjae during one of Hard Carry episodes), but that doesn't really excuse it.
I've thrown theb suggestion on tumblr, but what do you guys think of sending a letter to JYPE about the homophobia issue just like Block B fans did to educate Zico about the n-word? Maybe JYPE don't even pass the message to him, but it's better than nothing.
this jb guy isnt even cute like ive always been confused y ppl r crazy abt him. anyways i just cant at him, like did the pd's of this show tell him the show was called celebrity manly men instead? idek how they got him on the show by how extra he was being here.
Judging by the comments, I'm not watching this. Get over yourself, JB, no one is going to think you're dating Youngjae.
I can understand not being comfortable with skinship or playing up "fanservice-type" things to encourage fan foolishness, but there's no need to go overboard. Everyone knows it's for the show, find some comfort in your masculinity and relax.
I went to watch this episode thinking I'm gonna enjoy more JB & Youngjae being cute together and now we're in this mess.
Since I'm not lgbtq+ I can't say what others can and can't feel about this. Like it must be hurtful to watch this show and then watch him say that (if that is really what he said, I've seen ppl talk that something's been lost in translation? I'm confused)
I'm side-eyeing him for this behaviour. It could be just banter between old friends but the way it comes across in this is nagl. It's weird tho how he seems perfectly fine with the excessive skinship and pda the got7 members do with him and among themselves but suddenly this crossed some line in his brain?
I'm just disappointed in this whole situation. And I don't think they're gonna address this in any way lbr.
the situation is still iffy (this whole thing of poking fun at men doing couple-y thing really rubs me the wrong way), but between this and he supposedly joking about beating someone for acting gay there's a sea of nuance. Plus, not long ago there was that mess with v app subs making EXO's Suho sound like a pedophile so I wouldn't doubt them messing up the official translation again. I'm still :/ with the whole thing but at least it's not bad as "aggressively homophobic" bad? idk.
It doesn't let him off the hook completely but it would ease up the situation a little bit. It's like you said, nuance, he seems to have a certain language he uses with Youngjae, like friends do normally. They've known each other for a long time after all and have a lot of things in common so JB's more relaxed with him.
It still doesn't make the issue go away and he definitely messed up but the issue is "not as bad" if one can say that.
And excuse me for being naive but I would like to think he's capable of change (actually imo he's shown before that he's capable of it) and that he can be educated. I don't see him as stupid or narrow-minded, perhaps ignorant and didn't think his words thru, but that can be corrected.
Edit: and trying to figure out intent from a foreign language is always a walk on thin ice, and I hate these mistranslations, they stir up more unnecessary shit than we need
I'm not surprised by omona glossing over JB being homophobic, that seems pretty par the course when a favorite messes up so let's get to that first.
I dunno anything about their relationship before this show, if they're friends or not, so I'm gonna ASSUME the worst and assume they weren't friends before. I know in Korea it's very common to be aggressive and threatening with your friends ("You wanna die" is a very common thing as is people pushing, hitting, general rough housing) so there is SOME CONTEXT that is worth being acknowledged. That being SAID. JB was absolutely inexcusable here, he came off extremely homophobic and hurtful in a lot of parts and while most of it SEEMED like maybe he was joking, he still looked uncomfortable which makes me think it was honest. I really am surprised by JB being this way and I can only imagine that those of the LGBTQ+ community must be really hurt if they're fans of his. This really sucks because I thought GOT7's remaining messy member was BamBam but I guess not, and JB isn't one of the ones I would have guessed WAS messy.
Let's talk about the fact that everyone glossed over Youngjae's messy fucking sexist comment though, because both of these boys need to be cancelled. Youngjae told JB to "be like a girl and cook for him." As if cooking is the job of girlfriends and wives and not boys. Is this as bad as JB? Probably not, but both these dudes need a fucking sit down.
What is this like episode 2 of Bromance? Who would have guessed a show about two men would end up messy.
Okay that provides a little more context, I've also had some of the translations cleared up. Maybe they joke with violence often (as I mentioned a lot of Koreans do) but still it just feels wrong to me.
I don't think Youngjae meant only girls should cook given what he said right afterwards Apparently the translation is wrong, he literally said 그럼 내가 여자라고 생각하고 which means "think of myself as the girl" (future girlfriend) But it was still unnecessary, like fucks sake just make each other food
Well this was awkward, uncomfortable, and frustrating viewing.
JB seemed chill when filling out the questionnaire and getting the results, but he was so obviously nhf the couple cafe concept becaue he was NOT letting up for like 14 of the 17 minutes. We get it, you're not a couple, nobody thought you were it's a fanservice show for fun. He's not a fanservice guy at all, but he needed to relax because the NO HOMO was OTT.
