there's more tweets that weren't translated but they basically said that he wanted to be the first one to bring light to it because the concert "has his name on it", rather than sm, etc. and that he's going to prevent anything else from happening during the remaining concerts. tl;dr: this was brought to his attention because of k-shawols, not i-fans so props to them for calling him out when it was needed.

what people should learn from this: don't put your idols up on a pedestal (even though i never did), don't insist that koreans aren't aware of when their idols do something insensitive to another culture (because they were the reason jonghyun apologized), and idols DO see when people try to reach out to them to correct them when they're wrong. op, aka: admin of fyjjong has a stress headache right now and probably is gonna have shawols at her throat but i don't make excuses when my biases mess up!!!! i didn't make excuses for minho / onew's racist ass macarena performance and i won't for this either.

Date: 2016-12-03 04:48 pm (UTC)Props to the fans for calling him out on it, props to him for not waiting for his company to say something first before releasing his apology. He took responsibility for it, owned up to his actions, and seems sincere in seeing the error of what he did. Here's hoping he can spread that knowledge to others in the industry as well.

Date: 2016-12-03 04:48 pm (UTC)a lot of the reactions of fans are really disappointing but i don't expect much from fans in general as you mentioned it on a post on ffyjjong that jonghyun wouldn't want us to make excuses for him if he hurt someone so we shouldn't shield our faves from their wrong doings. i'm really glad k-shawols pointed this out and it reached to him so fast and he apologized so quickly. the vcr part was v gross and i don't wanna watch it again, like ever. that was a very disappointed move from his part. i hope he learns and knows he should stay away from cultures that aren't his in the future.
also asfsnalkfnlaskfas i'm a mess today with my TL between this and taeyeon its a rough morning lmao

Date: 2016-12-03 04:51 pm (UTC)That said, Jonghyun is probably the one idol who I believe doesn't mean it when he messes up, and that's clear from the apologies he issues right away upon being called out. I can see him preventing SHINee from doing skits like that (and the Mexican / Native American stuff they've done in the past as well) ever again.

Date: 2016-12-03 05:04 pm (UTC)i do think it's not always ignorance but this time it might have been based on his reaction to the situation although that might've have been the reason, that's not an excuse or an okay for the vcr. happy about everyone who was willing to speak up on this and educate him.

Date: 2016-12-03 05:19 pm (UTC)i'm disappointed that he even filmed it in the first part - like a member of his group went to fluttering india (which was eh but better than what i expected ig) and he still fucked up like this? although ig just because minho went doesn't mean much with jonghyun knowing better but idk. he should know better by now. from what i've seen with jonghyun though, i can assume that he is genuinely sorry and will learn from this, so i can just hope for that.
also fuck all the people going like "i don't feel offended by this!!" or "my xyz number of indian friends/relatives/people i know don't feel offended by this!!!"

Date: 2016-12-03 05:36 pm (UTC)I hope his apology is sincere and he learns something from this. It's kind of weird that he didn't mention what portion of the clip was offensive. He just described the other parts.

Date: 2016-12-03 06:11 pm (UTC)Its disappointing when someone you like does something wrong. The important thing is how the person handles it afterwards. The fact that he apologize is a good step. I think he probably really didn't think it would be seen poorly and thought people would find it funny. But that's the problem. Things like using anothers culture as a joke is not amusing. It would be great if he could actually speak with people who could fully educate him on this because this seems to be an on going thing within the Asian community. Just a month ago there was a Chinese comedy that did an Indian version of PAAP in totally brownface and it was so fucking vile. I'm not gonna hate him for this, but I am disappointed.
I also kind of get why he was trying to explain but sometimes even the best intention can still be disrespectful.

Date: 2016-12-03 06:17 pm (UTC)everybody even when they dont need to feel sorry (like b1a4 about snl scandal) ... like .... suddenly i dont know how to feel about everyone just saying "oops my bad" instead of thinking before acting
in this sea of apologetic asses , i dont want to stay biased because its true at this point jjong should know better
i always apreciate how he keeps addressing those controversies with humility and open mind

Date: 2016-12-03 06:18 pm (UTC)As always, I'm not surprised by the behavior, (A regular day in Kpop), but I am taken aback that K-Shawols called him out on it and the apology was issued before I could even figure out what happened. However, don't do this shit. It's not funny, it's offensive. Specify what you did wrong, understand that what you did was wrong, why it was wrong, and don't do it again. It's not hard.
Getting very close to deciding that the phrase or anything which basically gives me an "I didn't know" feeling is no longer applicable for me in 2017.
