there's more tweets that weren't translated but they basically said that he wanted to be the first one to bring light to it because the concert "has his name on it", rather than sm, etc. and that he's going to prevent anything else from happening during the remaining concerts. tl;dr: this was brought to his attention because of k-shawols, not i-fans so props to them for calling him out when it was needed.

what people should learn from this: don't put your idols up on a pedestal (even though i never did), don't insist that koreans aren't aware of when their idols do something insensitive to another culture (because they were the reason jonghyun apologized), and idols DO see when people try to reach out to them to correct them when they're wrong. op, aka: admin of fyjjong has a stress headache right now and probably is gonna have shawols at her throat but i don't make excuses when my biases mess up!!!! i didn't make excuses for minho / onew's racist ass macarena performance and i won't for this either.

I appreciate his apology, it sounds genuine. From all the apologies I've read throughout the years in kpop, this is probably the only one that actually sounds honest.
I do hope he learns from his mistakes.

Enjoy your half a brownie point for apologizing. Still don't see why he couldn't tell while filming that dressing up in a caricature and mocking traditional dances was okay but at least it got through his head now.

His i-fans can go fuck themselves with their 'I sent this to 37 Indians I know and none of them were offended/Fuck these people for making him apologize" nonsense.Props to K-shawols for not letting this slide.

I'm glad he apologized. Probably the realest apology I've read from a kpop artist in awhile. I'm a bit confused on why this never once occurred to him as being something that miiiight make people upset, but hopefully it's starting to sink in that this sort of thing isn't okay.

Props to the fans for calling him out on it, props to him for not waiting for his company to say something first before releasing his apology. He took responsibility for it, owned up to his actions, and seems sincere in seeing the error of what he did. Here's hoping he can spread that knowledge to others in the industry as well.

OP you're so fast. is this all his tweets translated into one? i thought some were still in need of translations

a lot of the reactions of fans are really disappointing but i don't expect much from fans in general as you mentioned it on a post on ffyjjong that jonghyun wouldn't want us to make excuses for him if he hurt someone so we shouldn't shield our faves from their wrong doings. i'm really glad k-shawols pointed this out and it reached to him so fast and he apologized so quickly. the vcr part was v gross and i don't wanna watch it again, like ever. that was a very disappointed move from his part. i hope he learns and knows he should stay away from cultures that aren't his in the future.

also asfsnalkfnlaskfas i'm a mess today with my TL between this and taeyeon its a rough morning lmao

Wow that was really NAGL

That said, Jonghyun is probably the one idol who I believe doesn't mean it when he messes up, and that's clear from the apologies he issues right away upon being called out. I can see him preventing SHINee from doing skits like that (and the Mexican / Native American stuff they've done in the past as well) ever again.

This was all over tumblr (and I don't even follow any shinee fans I think) so I went searching for his apology because his fans were truly losing their shit at anyone who said they were unstanning JH and I loled @ the fact that he never specifies what culture it was exactly that he made a mockery of. I can't at fans thinking he's soooo professional and willing to be educated for immediately addressing the issue when he worked SO hard and is SO tired from having just finished a concert. Why did he even film this if he was as educated and socially aware as they claim him to be........

i mean its a good apology but its bull.he should have known better at this point.he isnt the first to to do stuff like this so he should had known that its not ok. its getting real tiring at this point.like not just jonghyun but all idols should know that is aint ok.its been what like 3-4 years now that people call them out so they should all know.

damn sm what the hell is goin on today. oh bling bling, i respect his fast action and apology and he is constantly reaching out to fans who he offended and he apologizes. That's great. But I really...I'm like you couldn't tell this was problematic?? Liiiike he's pretty smart. Idk, sometimes I do problematic shit and then I'm like oh shit i shouldn't have done that. Maybe this was the case? I'm just wondering how did he never realize this was disrespectful until now? But then again, has he ever culturally appropriated/been called out for appropriation? Maybe this was his first and last time? But I'm sure he's seen other idols get called out for it (ie minho and onew). ugh so disappointing.

ia i'm shocked this made it past so many ppl before being shown but at least he was open to feedback and went out of his way to apologize sincerely and swiftly unlike others who give insincere/vague apologies or no apologies. this is definitely not a "sorry IF you were offended" one and I'm proud of him.

i do think it's not always ignorance but this time it might have been based on his reaction to the situation although that might've have been the reason, that's not an excuse or an okay for the vcr. happy about everyone who was willing to speak up on this and educate him.

fuck that
that's how I feel about it.... I'm over at that tayracist post too so I'm pretty hot right now.

i'm gonna accept his apology but i need his other tweets translated too bc i want to see if he specifically mentions what culture it was that he was appropriating and mocking

i'm disappointed that he even filmed it in the first part - like a member of his group went to fluttering india (which was eh but better than what i expected ig) and he still fucked up like this? although ig just because minho went doesn't mean much with jonghyun knowing better but idk. he should know better by now. from what i've seen with jonghyun though, i can assume that he is genuinely sorry and will learn from this, so i can just hope for that.

also fuck all the people going like "i don't feel offended by this!!" or "my xyz number of indian friends/relatives/people i know don't feel offended by this!!!"

kudos to k-shawols for calling him out

I hope his apology is sincere and he learns something from this. It's kind of weird that he didn't mention what portion of the clip was offensive. He just described the other parts.

it's always funny when you're not part of the culture huh. i mean good for him for apologising and everything but when are people going to think before excecuting bslike this? you took the time to come up with the idea so why not think about some of the cons? i'm not saying that he isn't genuine about his apology but this could have easily been prevented.

s/o to the k-fans for talking about it!

Its disappointing when someone you like does something wrong. The important thing is how the person handles it afterwards. The fact that he apologize is a good step. I think he probably really didn't think it would be seen poorly and thought people would find it funny. But that's the problem. Things like using anothers culture as a joke is not amusing. It would be great if he could actually speak with people who could fully educate him on this because this seems to be an on going thing within the Asian community. Just a month ago there was a Chinese comedy that did an Indian version of PAAP in totally brownface and it was so fucking vile. I'm not gonna hate him for this, but I am disappointed.

I also kind of get why he was trying to explain but sometimes even the best intention can still be disrespectful.

i feel lately like its raining apologies on kpop ....
everybody even when they dont need to feel sorry (like b1a4 about snl scandal) ... like .... suddenly i dont know how to feel about everyone just saying "oops my bad" instead of thinking before acting

in this sea of apologetic asses , i dont want to stay biased because its true at this point jjong should know better
i always apreciate how he keeps addressing those controversies with humility and open mind

Fans always rave on (twitter/tumblr) how he's so socially aware and all, and if something happens they prevent him from having a learning experience and it pisses me off. Especially since he's one of the rare ones who tries to right the wrong.

As always, I'm not surprised by the behavior, (A regular day in Kpop), but I am taken aback that K-Shawols called him out on it and the apology was issued before I could even figure out what happened. However, don't do this shit. It's not funny, it's offensive. Specify what you did wrong, understand that what you did was wrong, why it was wrong, and don't do it again. It's not hard.

Getting very close to deciding that the phrase or anything which basically gives me an "I didn't know" feeling is no longer applicable for me in 2017.
