This preview from the upcoming Death Note musical features Kim Junsu (L) and Han Ji-Sang (Light) performing the song "Playing His Game," including a pretty intense round of metaphorical tennis.

Junsu's L is a bit too "intense" in his attitude
L is a lot more "distanced" from reality and looks like he doesn't give a fuck

yagami should be more intense and more "I look calm but I have power trip issue"

yeah that's the vibe I get from junsu in every role he plays (from what I hear in his soundtrack and see on youtube) :/ it fits sometimes, it doesn't other times. i feel like he's making the characters fit himself, and not the other way around, if that makes sense.

Yeah, I actually wish Junsu was Light, L would be more interesting closer played to his original personality as a detached, melancholy, kooky character. Light is the weirdo with intensity and fangirls

idk if i like this or not. demo was much easier to listen to.
i feel like this version is way too emotionally charged, especially considering the characters?

Yeah this really should've been the other way around :/

Certainly appreciate that folks think their performances, especially Junsu's, are too emotional. I'm really not sure a personality like the anime version of L would work in musical theater. Lots of droning emotionless monologuing... not ideal for stage. It's very obvious that they've gotten permission to use all the imagery/fonts and character styling that they weren't allowed in the first run. It had just run in Japan the first time so they were keeping them different on purpose.

I'm SUPER excited about Ben playing Misa. I love Ben. She has such a pretty voice.

death note's been making a comeback lately. new tv series, new movie, now this. i wonder why.

i think that i'm not yet sold for ji-sang as light, he doesn't seem as intense and as youthfully determined as I guess other Lights have brought to the role? And I agree with a lot of people, although i really love junsu's vocal timbre for L, he has that low rasp, he's definitely way too intense in expressions. I think bc he's trying to play up the fact that both of them are kind of morally grey, sine the script heavily paints L as more virtuous in the musicals?

I love the song, but i think it's definitely more powerful on stage, when they're more into it? idk.
