Suzy cast in new SBS series

Singer-actress Suzy has been cast in the title role of a new SBS series about a clairvoyant woman and a prosecutor who fights to stop her dreams from becoming a reality, the drama's production company said Monday.

Suzy, a member of girl group miss A, will star opposite Lee Jong-suk in the series tentatively named "While You Were Sleeping," according to iHQ. In the drama, Suzy will play a woman with the ability to see accidents and mishaps before they happen in her dreams. It will be her first TV series since she played a brazen documentary producer in the KBS romance "Uncontrollably Fond" earlier this year.

The new series, set to air sometime next year, will be written by Park Hye-ryun of the popular series "Pinocchio" and "I Can Hear Your Voice," and directed by Oh Choong-hwan of "Doctors."

The there are so many talented actresses who have never had a lead role in a drama yet Suzy keeps getting cast.
I love Lee Jongsuk so I hope it is good, Pinnochio lost steam in the second half of the plot so I hope the writer is back in top form.

Yeah I really don't get it either. There are heaps of talented actresses out there, but they always have to keep casting the likes of her/yoona/sohee etc and always in lead or second lead roles. I can never understand - well I probably do. The "visuals" whatever trumps any genuine acting talent. No wonder the quality of k-dramas are getting worst..
Also, while i liked Pinocchio for the first 8 eps or so i couldn't finish it either. But I don't expect much from K-drama writers these days. =/

i feel for you! apart from that fact that his acting had improved ljs didn't seem alot different from ihyv in pinocchio tbh. the second half of pinocchio and everything with kyk's character was completely unnecessary imo.

Suzy supposedly dates LMH and when she was starring with KWB in Uncontrollably Fond, every day there were rumors that meant LMH were breaking up or LMH was going to go on the show to save the ratings, and so on.

So, I am sure something like that will start with this show.

Or not since he is going into his military service soon.

um the break up rumors kept popping up even before the show started and they would just always deny them, and any rumors that lmh going on the show were completely baseless (and unheard of, where did you even get that?) since uf was pre-produced and a bf going on gf's show is a complete no-no in kdrama industry

you seem to imply that suzy's side spread those rumors for her show and it's completely ridiculous and even insulting, especially when it was suzy who was hit with shit ton of borderline sexual harassment jokes when they were first outed in europe - if anything it's suzy who benefits more from not having the relationship talked about in the media

No, that was not my intent at all. I do not think anyone's side was doing it, it was more like tabloid news. I hope that did not come across that I was blaming either side?

I think these kind of rumors that dog all the first leads in dramas suck, because it happens all the time.

yeah it does suck, and i think it's partially because suzy's so popular and at the same time so quiet about the relationship that's causing all this unusual amount of rumors even after they confirmed dating - reporters want gossip and suzy's not giving them any.

While I, like most of you, am wary of Suzy's nonexistent acting skills, I do think LJS has an ability to bring out the best in his colleagues so I am cautiously optimistic. Plus they have worked together before so that gives me even more optimism about their chemistry. Also this made me think of Girl Who Can See Smells ish.

the thing is there has to BE sth to bring out in the first place. He couldn't do shit with Jin Se Yeon, I doubt it'll work with Suzy. Tho PHR is the only writer to date who's somewhat successfully written around her awful acting so that's the only hope anyone has rn.

Maybe I should rephrase, his dramas all seem so similar that it's losing the spark IHYV had (for me at least). It might have to do with him working with the same writer each time. I just want him to branch out more!

I'm very worried tbh because LJS can do no wrong in my eyes and he can have sizzling chemistry even with a tree but with that said.. Suzy's acting might not even save this OTP. I really hope she can prove me wrong because it was Pinocchio when Park Shin Hye really started to prove me wrong with her acting chops so I hope LJS will probably sprinkle some acting magic into her rofl.


I semi-wished it was Park Bo Young who took up this role because I reallllly want to see her act alongside LJS again :/

Suzy's acting isn't unbearable to watch. Sometimes she's passable, other times not so much. She lacks in connecting with her characters and really being able to express emotions well and acting without it not seeming awkward/unnatural in some instances. If she has a good writer and good director that can work her, I feel that synergy will work for Suzy.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this. Hope it's good.

Suzy isn't just not the horrible actress expressed in the comments here, she's become a good to great actress. Her latest melodrama was a bit.. melodramatic, but her portrayal of the character made me completely forget about the celebrity Suzy and just think of her as the scruffy PD. Superb naturalistic acting, way better than most performances in lead drama roles.

the kdrama industry tries so damn hard to give suzy opportunities to prove she isn't a shit actress - top writers, top costars, PDs accommodating af, pre-production ffs - and she keeps blowing it, uf was the last straw, she really is not fit for lead roles. ljs is popular enough on his own, they could have cast a rising actually competent actress like kim ji won or jo bo ah or anyone and still got their china $$$$ and loads of ppl money.

also phr may have lost her spark in the second half of pinocchio but idk why she wants to handicap herself by having to write around suzy again.
