Breaking WhyG News: 2NE1 is Officially Disbanding!

YG has officially announced that 2NE1 is disbanding.

Though the group is no more, CL and Sandara Park have signed solo contracts with YG. Park Bom has not resigned with the agency.

Here is the official statement from YG:

“2NE1’s exclusive contract expired in May 2016, and with Minzy leaving 2NE1, we have reached the conclusion after extensive discussion with the remaining members to officially disband.

“As 2NE1 was YG’s official girl group for seven years, we cannot begin to express how we feel, but we determined that it was too difficult to continue. Rather than waiting an undetermined amount of time for 2NE1’s next promotions, we have decided to focus on the members’ solo activities.

“We sincerely thank all the fans both in Korea and abroad that have love the group and their music for all this time.

“We would like to officially announce that after last May, we resigned with CL and Sandara Park. However, unfortunately, there is no new contract with Park Bom.”

If this will be the nail on the coffin for Winner as a group - like all of them still being under contract with YG, but do not coming out with group' stuff - Seunghoon is the most fucked in the end bc:
Mino is basically a solo act.
Seungyoon can cb to this solo career (I mean - he had the most hype predebut, yet they did not utilize it at all...)
Jinwoo - with his face can jump to acting any minute etc.

Hoonie actually has some variety chops, and his comedic timing is quite good. So he'd be a shoe in for shows and some dramas. I think he'd be fine if he himself made those connections instead of YG. At least in my opinion.

Yeah the delay was for BP and CL's sakes, IMO. BP = 2NE1 2.0 right down to Lisa/Jennie borrowing heavily from the Ms.CL school of slurred words/"rapping". They wouldn't have had a pot to piss in if they debuted in the shadow of 2NE1's disbandment, especially considering all of their stuff sounds like 2NE1 material that they re-recorded. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually dropped a full album now that they can freely take over 2NE1's unused discography. As for CL, I knew 2NE1 was over when she announced a tour with little to no solo material and then went on stage and became a one-woman-2NE1 show. A good chunk of her "solo" tour was her performing 2NE1 music; can't exactly sell tickets and do that if 2NE1 had disbanded before so yeah, I'm willing to bet good money this was in the works since Minzy peaced out but folks kept it under wraps to at least give the youngins and CL's nth attempt at an American music career a chance.

RIP 2NE1. They were one of the first groups I started with and everyone saw it coming but... I still had a little piece of hope left. This news is weird especially since we saw Dara and CL both post teasers and with Bom recently updating her social media again.. :(
Even though their discography was tiny, it was such a strong discography. I'll miss them.
