Flashback Friday

This week was goddamn exhausting, and I’m glad it’s over. Every week I check the charts for this Friday in a past year and post the top three songs. Then, I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. Let’s see what topped the charts for the 2nd Friday of November, 2011.

#3 Orange Caramel “Shanghai Romance”
I don’t remember this song or the MV at all. But the choreography looks really familiar, so I probably remember the live performances of this. This MV is weird (but it’s OC, so what’s new?), like was Nana trying to seduce that man? It did make me want dumplings, though. I’m totally getting dim sum this weekend.

#2 Secret “Love is Move”
I totally forgot that this song even existed until I saw this MV again. I don’t remember the MV at all, but I recognized the song at first listen. I feel like it was pretty popular.

#1 Girl’s Generation “The Boys”
My only memories of this era was watching Letterman (I hated Letterman) and Live with Kelly (I hated Kelly) to see their performances. I don’t think I’ve ever made it through the whole MV. But they all have good hair here, and I always approve the use of tiaras anytime, anyplace.

Honorable Mentions

#8 Yoon Mirae featuring Tiger JK and Jung In “Get It In”
Queen Tasha, so much more cooler than I will ever be. A great song and a badass MV. I love the look of this whole video.

#9 Tablo featuring Taeyang “Tomorrow”
That’s a lot of “T”s lol. From the really awesome “Fever’s End” album. This chorus is forever catchy and I will be singing it all day. I always think of Haru singing it on Return of Superman, lol. I miss Taeyang’s Forever Hair.

YouTubes: 1theK 1 2 3, SMTOWN, ygtablo & Soompi

I remember thinking back in the day that secret were actually going to be rivals for sistar. It's amazing how fast the industry moved

I remember being so HYPEEEEEEED for the boys to come out cause of their flawless japanese album they released earlier that year. I was so ready for my edges to be SNATCHED!!! I finally thought they would give me a korean album that would be full of dance bops like the japanese one, but instead they gave me "GIRLS BRING THE BOYS OUT". lol I was so crushed. At least that album gave me the bop that was known as TRICK. Still can't believe they've never performed that song live tho.

the boys was such a fun era for soshi, they finally got to do grown-up stuff hehe

edit: funfact, shanghai romance was written by heechul for the chinese traitor of suju... or so.

i adore the boys, it's iconic, it was one of the first kpop songs i had on repeat, and it mystifies me how anyone can dislike it. even the english version with its awful lyrics (tiffany bless ur heart for trying everything and sucking at everything) is a bop. they all looked stunning, there were no bad outfits (even that orange furry thing they put sooyoung in she ROCKED IT ok), the choreo was instantly iconic, the stages were incredible, YURI'S SUIT, hyoyeon killing it, one of my favourite sunny hairstyles, seohyun in that playsuit, THAT DROP just before the rap, them getting a grown up concept, THIS SHOT OF YURI

the boys is iconique and anyone who says otherwise is probably a bitter 2ne1 stan tyfyt omona

The Boys will forever be one of SoShi's best eras! I mean hello, everybody was looking on point! The concept was brilliant! Those outfits were iconic and no tragic hair in sight! \o/

This era was the rise of goddess Sooyoung and her fierce, fabulous and flawless self blessing us with the hair porn! *O*

Ah I miss Secret.
Yoon Mi Rae's iconic song, I didn't know anything about her until that SBS performance where she perform that very song.
The blatant contrast between her and the idol rappers was like 'Wow so this is what good sounds like'. Not saying I hate idol rappers :/ (everyone has to starts at the bottom), but when people complain about how bad the rap is...I don't really notice the large difference in quality/skill since I don't follow K-hip hop.

Shanghai Romance is one of my all time fave Kpop tracks. OC always had that Eurobeat sound and I loved it!

"The Boys" was SNSD's BEST era. All of them looked gorgeous and the outfits/make-up for all of their performances was on point!

I've never watched the MV for "Shanghai Romance" before, but I agree with OP, it's weird! xd I still love the song, though!

[identity profile] hellicoptajuuce.livejournal.com 2016-11-12 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
omg shanghai romance, wasnt that the time that Raina complained that she never got centre parts or something?

I definitely remember the MV for 'love is move' Hyosung's thighs!!!!!

The only thing i liked about the 'The Boys' era was that during the Letterman performance, the cameras were pretty much biased towards Sooyoung (Stan beauty, stan talent TBH!)

[identity profile] xxhna.livejournal.com 2016-11-12 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
oh gosh the boys. this was one of my fave eras for snsd. all the girls were fierce and gorgeous. the outfits and everything <3

and i miss secret. they had bops.

i watched the mv for the boys so many times that first weekend. my gay ass couldn't handle all of them being so beautiful, esp since it was the first time that ALL of them looked flawless

[identity profile] jinkiestabi.livejournal.com 2016-11-12 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The Boys was one of, if not THE, best things to happen to SNSD. IDC. The fashion for the video was eh to me, but if they had their IGAB fashion for this song instead? I mighta been a stan.

[identity profile] sodapab.livejournal.com 2016-11-13 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The music video for Get It In looks really cool, I hadn't seen that one before. It's really nice to discover new things in these posts!

Shanghai Romance ♥
I have to confess that I used to confuse the oc members in this video pretty badly because of their wigs / outfits.

[identity profile] kyokomurasaki.livejournal.com 2016-11-14 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Tomorrow is a great song and Fever's End remains a flawless album. Get It In is gr8 too though I think I prefer Sweet Dreams a little more.

I do like The Boys but the song does kind of get repetitive after a bit.

Also I feel like I need to listen to Shanghai Romance again because I think I remember liking it but now I can't remember what the song sounds like at all lol
