Tyler Perry to produce English remake of "Miss Granny"

A 2014 South Korean comedy about a grandmother who suddenly recovers the physical appearance of a young woman in her 20s will be remade in the United States, making it the first movie to be recreated in eight different languages, its producer said Monday.

CJ E&M unveiled a plan to jointly produce the Spanish and English versions of "Miss Granny" with 3pas Studios and Tyler Perry Studios' affiliated producer 34th Street Films, respectively. Aiming to reach U.S. theaters by 2018, the script and cast will go through thorough editing to suit the tastes of local fans.The film has already been produced in six different languages: Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai and Indonesian.

Tyler Perry Studios, founded by Tyler Perry, will produce the English remake. It is acclaimed for movies that portray family bonds and humor, including the Academy Awards-nominated "Precious.” 3Pas Studios, run by Mexican auteur Eugenio Derbez, produced the 2013 "Instructions Not Included," which had ranked as the fourth highest-grossing foreign film of all time in the U.S. Its movies are popular, especially among Hispanics.

"Even prominent Hollywood studios are keen to see the development of 'Miss Granny,' as going global by adapting one film to every country is unprecedented,”said Lim Myung-gyun, the global business manager of CJ E&M's film business.

I find all Asian movies remake by Hollywood to be such a disappointment because they lost the very important part on why the movies are such classic. I think the only Hollywood remake that I actually enjoy is The Lake House since they capture the longingness and melancholic atmosphere in that version pretty well too.

I find The Departed which everyone is raved for is a disappointment too esp when compared to the original and the prequals. And brilliant movie like Addicted are lost completely with Sarah Michelle Gellar's Possession.

Give me the 3PAS Studio Spanish remake, I will watch the shit of that movie.
Their films are so colorful. Instructions Not Included had a good balance of humour and heart wrenching pain so I'm sure they'll do a good job with Miss Granny.
