Hi Omonian babes! As most of you might be aware, we've been conducting a little experiment to try to make loading times a little faster on the main Omona home pages. We've asked submitters to limit their content outside of the cuts to just 1 video/image/gif and 1 extra gif, and to have everything else under lj-cuts instead of just lj-spoilers. Here's the post from last week in case you missed it (sorry lurkers, it's for members' eyes only.) And here's that performance poll we said we've have:

Date: 2016-10-30 05:20 am (UTC)if it's still slow for some ppl, they might consider trying the mobile site (http://m.livejournal.com/read/user/omonatheydidnt)? it keeps all media from loading unless u click to show it. the only problem i found is that stuff under spoiler cuts doesn't seem to show up at all..it does load faster tho
ive never done friend meme before so idk how it works lol but i hope a lot of people participate :)
oh and i have a question, can i make an original header image for posts? and if i do, should i still source each photo used to make it? sorry i hope this makes sense!

Date: 2016-10-30 05:52 am (UTC)Yes, you can make your own header for posts. As for crediting, it would depend on your source I guess. I know that some fansites have rules against editing/not crediting their pictures, so just be careful about that. :)
I've actually never done/participated in a friending meme before either, so I'm doing research now on how to make an interesting one. I think the last one was in 2015.. so it's about time.

Basically anything to get people talking/engaging with each other and finding common ground will be good. :)

I don't really know of any other possible solutions... But the other mods have said that felt a difference though, and I guess that's the most important thing. Being able to browse the site quickly makes our jobs a lot easier. :)

Date: 2016-10-30 09:00 am (UTC)Yeah, I understand why you did this and it's really great. I even said in the first post (I think) that it was slow for me but I'm not sure it made a difference now. Either it wasn't slow in the first place or I got used to it really fast or it didn't really change much or I was too busy with other things to pay attention or my 7yo laptop doesn't care (poor thing). But it worked for some people so that's good.

I haven't changed my browser (Firefox) or Internet connection, but as long as it's not slow anymore I don't really care why it got better lol I never had that problem with ONTD (dunno about Tumblr since I don't use it).

also, firefox as a browser is generally pretty slow and takes up a bunch of memory to run. chrome and safari are much faster.
