can someone explain their fame to me? not a hater, just surprised that they're always on top despite (in my personal opinion) not being really outstanding. i mean, how are they different from oh my girl, or gfriend, or other similar ggs? i don't see anything distinct in their looks/sound/concept, but their popularity is overwhelming

I think it's a combo of having popularity from their elimination show 16, having a catchy debut song,being from jyp. Other than that idk. It can't be their looks because every girl group has pretty members.

Idk if I really get it myself, I see so many gg who actually have vocal talent, can dance better and just have better songs but Twice seem to be held up as 'it' which is... okay. I think the gist of it is that they're pretty, cute, young and palatable.

They had a Big 3 company push which helped, but I think they seemed to really blow up after the whole Taiwan-China scandal with Tzuyu. That then propelled their public recognition and more people started paying attention.

I'm not trying to hate on them either, I think they're really sweet girls but their success doesn't correlate with their actual abilities/music for me.

Actually a lot of people say it's their visuals. Yes, every group has pretty members. But in TWICE every member is considered beautiful, and everyone always says that every member has a different kind of beauty.
Like, you have 9 members, all pretty, all different, and their songs are catchy.

They started on SIXTEEN and most of the group were chosen from the top of the show's popularity polls . This group was built to be popular not musically talented. Basically that gave them a head start in terms of fan base (they had several cf deals before the year was over and mind you they didn't officially debut until October and were actually created in like July), on top of just being lucky with single choices.

I think luck and timing? They were quite famous from sixteen but the tzuyu scandal got them really famous kinda like how 2pm after jay park incident.

Also they're really pretty, i mean everyone in kpop groups are pretty but jyp idols tend to be more natural and easy to differentiate.

as a sone who hated that jyp came out with a 9 member girl group so soon after sica left, i didn't just get it, i was bitter about it. like, that's petty, but that's kpop haha. anyway, after resisting the twice fandom, i'm deep in it now because it's hard when they share so many qualities that brought snsd to where they are now.

accessibility is the main thing both groups have. their songs are never too overly complex, there's a face in the group that someone is bound to like, as well as a personality- personality is another thing too. lastly, they seem really gay which i loved about both groups haha

like everyone in kpop, there's not much that distinguishes the girls of twice from any other girl from any other group, but i think what's important to note is their management. they come from jyp, home of suzy, wonder girls, jyp himself. a big 3 company just markets their artists differently. what's great about twice, in comparison to say groups like oh my girl, gfriend or aoa, is that they've made twice a brand. i disagree that they don't have anything distinct in their look, because their packaging, styling, etc has been consistent even prior to their debut.

that, and omg and gfriend will never have the reach the jyp has. the gfriend girls will always have nasty comments about how they're not pretty enough despite how well they're promoted by their company, aoa is from scandal-ridden fnc they're kind of like the new t-ara, great girls with great songs but their company will fail them. there's really no competition for who snsd will pass the torch to as the nation's girl group in the new generations. blackpink will be the new 2ne1, and red velvet doesn't have the public appeal that twice has. (i am v upset abt that lol)
