This drama is a romantic love story about a man and a woman from different backgrounds. Lee Young is the Crown Prince of Joseon Dynasty who likes to break away from his routine life in the palace. Hong Ra On comes from a very poor family that she has to disguise herself as a man to make a living. One day, the moneylenders sell Ra On to the Office of Eunuch Attendants to get back their money. Ra On and Young keep running into each other as she starts to work as a eunuch.

I liked the drama but the last half of the drama fell off for me. It's when Ra On basically disappeared as a character in the story. That was disappointing. If you look at what a feisty full of life character she portrayed at the beginning of the story to what she was reduced to by the end....eh....I shouldn't be surprised it's happened in a lot of Kdramas I've watched.

While I love Park Bo Gum and think he's a great actor something was a bit off towards the end. I'm sure it was exhaustion from the live shoot.

Can you point out which part was off? I read that the live shooting is very hard and he's in the verge of collapsing but I honestly think he look and performed just fine? His face didnt look exhausted and he still can emote well so.. haha probably because I'm biased that I cant see it but I'm really curious which part lol

+ I thought Yoo Jung and PBG had a ton of chemistry. She's a minor though, so I wish they hadn't gone for all the kisses (or just hire an actress closer to PBG's age to begin with).
+ Once the whole Hong Ra On reveal happened, she totally disappeared as a character. Things just kind of happened to her or around her, she didn't have much to do or much of a personality any more, and it was a real shame.
+ Both the second leads were good people (which is strange for a kdrama... there weren't a lot of conflicts there as I would have expected) and I'm sad about Yoon Sung. :(

As someone who loves sageuk, I feel like this drama is very light and low in the angst factor that I usually crave for. :P However, when I think about this drama as a whole, it indeed have many great scenes that you can watch over and over again. All the cute scenes made you feel really good and the sad/angsty scenes are soo good esp the part when the Crown Prince / Byeong Yeon / Yoon Sung got stabbed.

Plus, Bogum & Yoojung got explosive chemistry together which explain why the writer always make them have a scene together even during the conflicts parts in the later half of the drama. Bogum has like awesome chemistry with anyone that he worked with no matter whether it's male/female or young/old. I didn't realize it before but this drama really prove his range as an actor even more. I thought both of them did an excellent job at portraying all emotions excellently. Crown Prince's various expressions still remains one of my fave things in this drama and not to mention all Ra On's emotional scenes.

I watched surprisingly many dramas this year, this one is my second fave after Marriage Contract. :3

i love all the scenes where 3 of them got stab/slash. :,) but lol at yoonsung died with the same injury like the cp and byungyeon. i guess the writer need to kill somebody to have an impact to the story so yoonsung is the victim.

The writer needs to kill Yoon Sung for the physiognomy to come true. Remember, the reading that was done when they were little about the Crown Prince will die young? In turn out it was Yoon Sung since he & the Crown Prince change their garments when the reading was done at that time.

I'm so glad I stopped watching this drama because I read spoilers for the ending and if I watched the entire drama only to see THAT happen I'd be so fucking pissed I'd throw my laptop into the writer's face tbh. Even reading what happened to Yoon Sung at the end just makes me so fucking angry.

My only consolation is the real Lee Young dies at a young age so I'm just going to be believe that he dies shortly after the drama ends and Ra On and lives a long miserable life alone since that what happens in history anyway. :')

Also idk what it is about Park Bogum but I hate every single character I've see him play.

lol raon is a fictional character as she didnt exist in history. the writer didnt follow the history at all. in history, lee young married hayeon and had a son together. their son becomes the king after that. and lee young didnt even managed to be a king (only a regent) since he died young but i this drama he did! and hayeon leave the palace and live a different life. so basically the writer just throw the history out of the window for this drama lol.

It's my first time posting here and I'm feeling shy for some reason lol.

Anyway I thought this show was rather nice in the first 8-10 episodes or so, but just went downhill from there so I stopped watching. Also, while I absolutely love Kim Yoo Jung (fav Korean actress <3) and her fantastic chemistry with Park Bo Gum, I couldnt't really get into the plot. Maybe cause I just love Sageuks with alot of intrigue and politics and back-stabbing - heavier stuff. This one was very light and fluffy in comparison.

I usually watch kdrama on my phone while I commute - especially saeguk, since my sister doesn't like them to watch together, so these kind of scenes always find me on the train or metro. It's really annoying how I can't even freely cry during an emotional scene because of the lack of privacy! :P

i'm not sure whether Gumiho: Tale of the Fox's Child is considered saeguk but i loved it.

and also Moon Embracing the Sun was okay... i truly enjoyed the child's part but the adult counterpart didn't meet up the acting of the child actors/actresses

and Queen In Hyun's man has elements of saeguks?

i truuuly loved the beginning of this drama, but then when it was revealed that park bogum already knew she was a girl and all that hype and they got together i was like meehhh. even tho i cried bullets when jinyoung died like whyyyyy???
