DAMN THIS WEEK. How in the world did we survive all of this at the same time? Every week I check out the charts for this Friday in a previous year and post the top three songs. Then, I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. Let’s see what we bopped to (cause we for sure bopped this week!) in the 3rd week of October, 2008.

#3 Wonder Girls “Nobody”
What more can we say about this song that hasn’t already been said before? Arguably the most iconic WG era, everything about this was HUGE. The song and the dance were everywhere, and EVERYBODY knew it. And it got them on that Jonas Brothers tour LOL. I remember liking the song and the lives more than the MV, actually.

#2 Rain “Love Story”
SOOO many memories with trying to watch Rain MVs at work and not having them mistaken for porn. This particular one isn’t my favorite Rain song/MV, but this is still a nice song. The lives are really good, too! The MV features baby faced Ha Ji Won.

#1 TVXQ! “Mirotic”
Just in case you thought you had your fill of legends with the first two…BAM! TVXQ! I barely made it to the chorus before shrieking into a pillow, and I’m not even a fan. This song makes me want to do body waves.

#6 Son Dam Bi featuring Eric “Crazy”
I fucking LOVE this so much. This song was on the charts for weeks, and that choreo is still being parodied to this very day. I was OBSESSED with that whole tartan top/high slit skirt outfit 8 years ago, and I still am now, so cute! She had a few big bops after this, and I always wondered what could’ve happened if she stayed with music instead of getting into acting.

#7 Epik High “1 Minute 1 Second”
I think they were still under Woollim here, right? Such a long time ago! I remember the MV more than the song, and they look so young omg. God, this song just sounds so Epik High.

This song ALWAYS manages to make me feel some type of way. There will never be another one like that. I get back to it all the time and overdose on it for weeks.

Finding out that the high note was Changmin's work of art, made me a stan instantly. (fan fact: for some reason, the first few times I listened to the song I thought it was Junsu singing, as it's not shown in the video)

Nobody was the first comeback in kpop I followed properly because I became a WG fans during So Hot, so I have really fond memories of it, feels very nostalgic. And Mirotic it's just an iconic song, 2008 was such a goood year to become a kpop fan :')

all of these songs are veritable hits, dang 2008-09 was such a legendary time in kpop (ah the good old days). love story is my favorite rain song, second only to how to avoid the sun. i am still obsessed with son dambi's outfit in the mv lmao. MIROTIC THO. a true legend - those first beats started playing and i was already flailing. i do the fanchant every time i hear this song. plus, this song gave rise to one of the funniest fancams i have found to date:

should have clarified: it's hilarious to me because the sheer volume and coordination of the fanchants speaks to cassies' devotion lol, the captions are funny (e.g. whoever wrote the captions put the korean equivalent of "woahsdfkfd" and the reactions of non-fans who were stunned by the fanchants), and basically this video sums up my reaction to this song - lots of coordinated screaming

The funny thing is, while Mirotic was loved by everyone, the song made me stan TVXQ less at that time lol. I was in love with their sound back then. Then, Purple Line and Mirotic happened so I no longer a stan. :P That is why their break-up didnt exactly do anything to me...

I don't know why she would be a "sellout". It's not like she was making indie rock songs or something beforehand. While she's a good dancer and (barely) passable singer, it was mostly about her looks, and this song paired that up with a sexy best and a catchy song and dance.

Although I loved "Crazy", my love for her peaked at "Queen". Atillissai is like my Tumblr name and I used to say it randomly all the time. I even liked her "Tears" song and "Red Candle" (which in all seriousness should have just been called "Red Can"). So I miss her as a singer.

And I cannot believe she cut her hair short.

Nobody was probably one of the first kpop songs I ever listened to :') I was charmed by the catchy song, the synchronized dance moves and the humour in the mv.
I remember reading a short news article about how a man had died in a fight because he didn't know Nobody by Wonder Girls and so of course I had to find out what kind of a song it was. Down the rabbit hole...
