Phew. I finally caught up to all the episodes and jfc this drama is so good. Sure it has it's problems, but it's keeping me entertained.

I wanted to kick So's ass so badly when he, yet again, kissed Hae Soo without her permission -_______- "I lied *smiles*"...ugh. Still, I have a soft spot for him, and I'm glad he was the one who covered his father's body. And at the end of episode 13, when he was crying because he 'killed' Yo (even though Yo would have not hesitated to kill him if it was reversed), made me feel so bad for him.

At this point I'm over Wook, even though Kang Ha-neul's face is just so gorgeous and his acting is amazing. I just ship Hae Soo x happiness now.

While I hate princess Yeon-hwa, I admire her ambition. And when she turned the tables on evil queen Yoo, I had to give her some props cause girl sure knows how to play the game.

Eun and Soon-duk are so damn cute together <3 He's slowly but surely falling for her.

Shit, there's so many things I wanted to comment about but I feel like it would take me three more paragraphs lmao.

The first part of your comment - I agree so much.

I was thinking about this yesterday, I was wondering why I love this drama sooo much. We are 13 episodes in and I am still super interested and excited for each episode. Usually, I cool of after a few weeks and then marathone the rest when it's finished .

I could list dozen of cons but it still somehow manages to keep me on the edge of my seat. Idk if it's all simply LJK's impact. :P

This week didn't match the brilliance of episode 11 but I feel like the drama's got a lot better? Too many parallel storyline in ep 12 but still I feel so ready for what's coming.

Also I surprisingly like Nam Joo Hyuk a lot in this role, he's perfect as a sidekick but I'm not feeling his ~tragic romance with Woo Hee partly because the actress is so damn awkward, like her speech comes out funny and I was starting to find those glares hilarious. But they had spots where they were ok-ish. Soon Deok is a much better/more natural actressor at least fits her role better, I can even tolerate Baekhyun when he's with her.

Also, Lee Jun Ki killing it as usual (seriously So behaves like he was raised by wolves sometimes instead of just killing them) but I feel like IU's emoting game has gone way up since ep 11 and Kim Kyu Tae finally let her form plausible expressions.

(where is everyone btw, did y'all peace out?)

I had to fast forward through all the Woo hee scenes. Their romance is badly written and poorly acted. She tried to kill your father but no one noticed and you still kissed her!?

i completely agree re: nam joohyuk. i am still pleasantly surprised by his acting, considering how lackluster he is in modern dramas. seohyun honestly needs to stick to bein an snsd member, she's so bad here. no emoting at all. and that scene at the end of ep 12 where she was dancing was so awkward with all the million closeups.

The 13th episode was E P I C.
One of the strongest ones and probably my favorite so far.

I love what they are doing with Wook's character and how they gradually ended Soo's and his relationship. The scene where she (I would say desperately) asked him to leave the palace together almost made me cry. The way I see the change in him is that at first he was doing this for HaeSoo (entering the race for the throne), but then he grasped the idea of it (maybe Young Hwa was right and he always deep down wanted the throne but never dared to imagine it as once upon a time his family was cast out, so it seemed like a far reach), as well as the sole idea of fighting for the throne against Wang So and beating him may be one of the stronger motifs behind his actions.

The sword fight scene between the two was the best part of the episode. While I feel the scene lacked visually - If you are coming for the throne you would definitely have more than 20 soldiers, right? It failed to make me feel any sort of emotion I was po prepared for (except for the princes' armour - costumes in general). I'm gonna state the obvious - Lee Jun Ki is AMAZING. When I think I can't love him more.. I replayed that scene several times, I was looking forward to it so much (hence my icon) and he delivered  ♡♡♡

As for SoSo ship - I am still on board, not giving up, no matter how many shitty shit writers pull off with So. I feel like he definitely accepted the fact HaeSoo loves Wook deeply and it may take a long time, if ever, for her to get over him, so So calling her his person is just a way for him to deceive himself and handle the situation easier.

Those inner monologues HaeSoo is having are so important and so nicely done because we are getting hints that she is warming up to him, but at the same time, she is being extremely careful. The fact that she puts so much trust in So, and doesn't really put his actions in question makes my little shipping heart so happy.

I did not mind the kiss, I felt that it was innocent (yes he has a bad track record, but..) and cute. He was going away for a year, so.. Am I being problematic right now? Am I the only one who feels this way haha? I loved that scene, I won't lie.

Anyway, super excited for the next week. The previews seem very promising, I can't believe the show is ending very soon. I am putting all my hopes up for a happy ending, I am too invested in this show and I don't want it to scar me for life.

why is it that every time i'm sure of one thing happening the preview for the next ep happens and everything is flipped over and AHhHhHhhH WHAT DO I BELIEVE IN

i don't trust wook or so now but i guess i have a ~soft~ spot in my heart for both, mostly i'm trying not to give them any more attention tho, i care more about hae soo, soon duk and eun, and baek ah (and maybe jung)

lets hope at least those four/five survive if nothing else

wook is so done for. while it's entertaining to watch him scheme, i hate how he is constantly blaming so for everything. like soo leaving him has nothing to do with him being an ass and not owning up to his promises to her.

if it weren't for so keeping on kissing soo without consent their relationship would be perfect. i love seeing the trust between them because they both need someone they can trust and rely on. the last scene where soo was comforting so was really touching

i love yeonhwa and if she were a dude she'd have been on the throne 5 years ago and everyone else'd be long dead already. she's the smartest one out of all of them. if im channeling my inner 10th century self and ignore that they're siblings i'm kind of looking forward of seeing her with so because i want more scenes of them together. they have good chemistry. he's way too nice and naive for her tho lol

lol at the king on his deathbed only talking about the crownprince and so. i love all of my children equally.jpg

in terms of acting i think almost everyone is doing a great job. ljk and khn are stellar of course, but the big surprise for me personally is nam joo hyuk. i really enjoy watching him despite woohee, she's terrible

omg that preview looks so good! that fightscene looks promising. are they gonna show so marrying thay little girl? i know it's historically correct, but it's pretty weird to see. also i thought yeonhwa was gonna be his first queen?

i'm really impressed by how well they made the breakup of the wook/soo relationship. i thought the writers would make up some stupid reason but they handled it well. kang haneul killed it.

so/soo is still my otp and i'm looking forward to their scenes in the next episode, although i rme at so's lie in ep 12. hopefully now things get better with soo.

woohee is completely useless and seohyun needs to stick to being an idol. she's just a bit better than baekhyun but they are both so bad.

After the last episode I had high expectations, of course the drama failed all of them haha the whole HaeSoo + Woohee being friends out of nowhere was so... ~1 year passes and a lot of stuff happens but we are not showing you anything, just trust me~ lmao

I was so mad at Wook by the end of episode 13, he is an asshole, I saw people defending him last time ("he had his reasons to leave haesoo!!!! It was her or his family!!!"), but let's be honest the guy was always a little shit unable to keep promises and stand up for others (it was pretty obvious since the beginning, especially because they always made Wangso be able to do what he couldn't). The whole "someone's betrayal" talking about Haesoo.... He can go eat shit, fuck you Wook, you literally left her to die, ignored her for a whole year because you are a coward, you joined forces with another asshole and then you go all "SHE BETRAYED ME!!!1!" because Haesoo doesn't trust you anymore??? I WONDER WHY IS THAT :))))

And my friend pointed out that in Haesoo's visions Wangso was killing everyone and laughing all pyscho, having fun, but in reality when he "kills" one of his brothers (the worst one even!) he is a crying mess, all guilty and sad lmao could you be anymore wrong soo haha

And I'm surprised by reading the comments the amount of people that likes Yeonhwa, I want this girl dead, fried, killed, dead, destroyed, dead ):< she killed my lady oh, i want her away from wangso and dead ):<<< DEEEEEEEEAD

Havent watch both of episodes yet but hopefully it will be better than last week's episodes. I wonder if the King died and the power struggle will start as we already entering the 2nd part of the drama (which deemed to be more interesting).

I started watching Marriage Contract two days ago and I cant stop watching it *_* I shall catch up with this drama soon.

WOTTTTTT JUST HAPPENED IN THAT PREVIEW??!?!??!!!
Okay so I NEVER EVER liked the 8th prince, so screw that. I'm sooo happt that Hae Soo is finally gonna let herself openly love 4th prince.
What is wrong with the Crown Prince? I mean I know he's kinda sickly, but Hae Soo said it can be quickly taken care of... or that he just doesn't have the backbone of King...
What a spoiler tho that they already showed the 3rd prince making a comeback on the next episode -_-

SOMEONE ANSWER THIS FOR ME PLEASE!::: Is the incest in this drama forreal? Like, they share the SAME FATHER, different mothers, but they end up together? If you tell me that tis was acceptable during this period in history.... WOuldn't their Royal Children look pretty messed up? ((O___O))

Yep, irl Wang So/King Gwangjong married his half sister (Yeonhwa in SH), and later also married a niece. That was their way of keeping control of the throne and not losing it to the assorted influential clans their mothers were from.

Poor So. First he apparently teleports out of the palace - is this a Kdrama convention, abruptly jumping into a development like that, or does it mean they just couldn't film the bit where he escapes? - then he is obliged to disguise himself under a frankly terrifying wig so that no-one will know it's him when he attacks next week. (It doesn't work. "You!!!")

Every time I think of the line "I stabbed my older brother" it gets funnier.

i got a lot of feels for this drama, which can be a struggle at times, considering all its faults lmao
i simultaneously love and hate wook. I like seeing him convert to the Dark Side; his calculating demeanor is portrayed so well, not to mention the transition feels more organic compared to the transformation of certain other characters. That being said, bruh you literally abandoned Soo but you still expect her heart to be loyal to you? Soo's observation at the end was spot-on, he's fooling himself into thinking he's doing this all for Soo. He needs to own up and accept his new evil side lol
As for So, I'm still kinda pissed they had to make him go the you-must-love-me-despite-your-will route, but I really do love his character and how surprisingly gentle he can be. I do think his relationship with Soo will be ok as her main reason for fearing him was because she didn't want him to kill everyone. She seems to have accepted that history will run its course, and appears to be developing feelings for him
I would have liked Yeonhwa if she wasn't set on marrying So and getting rid of Soo lol she's a crafty one
Either Seohyun is a terrible actress, Woohee is written badly, or both.

For upcoming episodes, my main concern is how they're going to deal with further time skips. Are they going to just cram all the events into the span of a couple years, end the story before So becomes king, etc? Even the 1 year time skip felt rushed and forced, I'm not sure what two more skips would do to the flow (assuming we're shown when Yo becomes King, then when So does).

Date: 2016-10-06 08:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] winegums.livejournal.com
mteeee about Wook like bruh I get why he felt like he had to leave her but he literally turned his back on her, didn't see her even once in the following year and then gets mad at her when she decides to place the king's orders (you know, the dude she works for, even if he's dying) ahead of trusting the guy who literally left her in the rain? And even after all that, she'd have still trusted him if he didn't give himself away with the question about whether the King was dead. Like ummm, you lost all right to have any expectation of her a year ago, she owes you jack shit but YOU have the nerve to call it a betrayal? Come the fuck on, Wook!

I kind of like Yeonhwa's craftiness, I admire the way she manipulates shit. She's interesting to watch, too. And yeah Woohee is a combination of terrible acting and writing, I give no fucks about her character and she's just awkward to watch.

(also we have MORE time skips coming? I should have expected that since OG BBJX has the heroine aging from 14 to 35, but we have 7 episodes left and we're only what, one year down here? I thought it was longer based on the way seasons changed in the pre-torture story.

i don't know if i was just not paying any attention but the beginning of ep 12 was hella confusing, where was the context? and the one year jump also just came out of nowhere.

ngl in ep 12 i kept getting anxious everytime so gets too close to hae soo . I mean I want them to get together but at the same time I just can’t with him forcing all this kisses upon her. I need someone to sit his ass down and tell him that he can’t be doing shit like that anymore. but then in ep 13 my stupid ass forgot all about it and continued shipping the two. i mean i should hate myself for it because of how problematic it is but i can't help it i just love so. also when he cried because of the king's death i just couldn't keep it in anymore (well actually ep 13 as a whole just made me cry). i mean a part of me is happy to see that the king always loved so and was worried about him but another of me is like: why didn't you ever show him? this guy is/was all messed up because of it (and because of his mother of course).

ugh wook. i was starting to warm up to him but seeing how he's started to behave these past episodes made all of my hate for him, from all the way back to lady hae, come back to me. for some reason i always fell like his plan to take over wasn't waterproof (part because of his track record of failed actions) but now seeing that yo is going to come back wook is definitely in trouble. i also just loved it how they were trying to show how different wook and so are right now. while wook claims to love soo he doesn't want to marry her because she's a water girl but then you have so who doesn't give a damn and wants to marry her regardless of her rank. tru luv!

Ah yeon hwa. I don’t exactly like her but seeing her go against the queen like that makes me want to root for her. i just need to get over her thirsting after her brother(s) cause it's starting to get awkward. Now how in the hell did they jump to a year later. That was so sudden.

i'm also really liking the 13th prince but i feel like his girlfriend is a bit irrelevant. i mean okay she had to kill the king but i feel like her story line is going nowhere she doesn't really bring in anything extra. so i'm really curious to see if they're just going to leave her in her hometown, if baek ha is going to stay with her (a part of me wants this cause i don't want him to die) or if they're going back together.

i wonder what's going to happen next. i just wish for something good to happen for hae soo cause the poor girl really needs it ( i miss her up beat self)

While everyone's rejoicing about Hae Soo and Wang So, I am suffering because I really liked Wang Wook a lot.

I ship Hae Soo and Wang So together (I ship both 8-soo and 4-soo equally so I don't care who she ends up with) but it's hard to see Wang Wook's change in personality because I have always liked how much of a sweetheart he is. I am a sucker for sweethearts so I easily got attached to Wang Wook's personality (Kang Haneul's gaze made me a huge fan, I started watching his other dramas). Anyway, the preview for the next episode made me scream. Can't wait for it!

I honestly think there wouldn't be so much defending of Wook and thinking he was such a great guy who did this complete about-face (lbr, he was always a Nice Guy -- i.e., shady asshole in Prince Charming disguise) if Kang Ha Neul wasn't so gorgeous and accomplished an actor. I'm just sayin'.

I think IU is adorable and her acting is improving, but she's just not good enough. It's frustrating to watch Lee Junki emoting and acting circles around her while she's just giving him bug-eyed mouth half-opened blank face. She also looks about 12 (even though I know she's in her 20s) so Wook and So just look like a couple of pedos salivating after her, to me.

Between Seohyun and Baekhyun, SM acting coaches are not earning their paychecks.

Nam Joohyuk actually looks the most convincing as a Goryeo prince to me, a lot of the other actors look too modern even in the costumes and hairpieces.

Yeonhwa's dimples and how they show up the most when she's smiling wickedly slay me. I can't wait to see her and So get married (and I hope they don't cut that out of the show) because they look gorgeous together and I think the actors have mad chemistry. Incest, shmencest, IDGAF, it's a show and this took place hundreds of years ago plus it's historically accurate so I'm not going to be clutching my pearls over it, pretty much everyone alive on this earth today if they go far enough back into their family tree will find some incest. Oh well, big whoop.

Honestly I'm inclined to cut IU some slack since she had really good chemistry with both Jun Ki and Haneul but especially the latter (I've seen what it's like when an actor throws everything at a costar who gives nothing back - see Dr Stranger or Unfortunately Fond - and it doesn't look like IU with either of the guys here).

And the last couple of weeks really stepped up on emotion from her, after Producer I'm really inclined to think the bug-eye issue of SH is a directing issue and not that she can't emote.

From the past two episodes, I'm just glad that Haesoo finally got up the courage to yell at So. I called Seohyun's character a lot of names because she shanked my precious Baek Ah and I thought he was going to die, lol.
