Nana Speaks Out About Her Bisexual Role And Praise For Her Acting

When it was first announced that After School’s Nana was cast in tvN’s “The Good Wife” with top actors Jeon Do Yeon and Yoo Ji Tae, public reaction was not pleasant.

However, this changed completely when the girl group member and now actress proved herself with her natural gaze and expressions on the drama’s premiere, after which she had expressed her gratitude for the positive feedback.

In “The Good Wife,” she takes on the role of Kim Dan, an MJ Law Firm researcher who holds many secrets, portrayed by Nana with a presence that does not pale even alongside the charisma of veteran actress Jeon Do Yeon with whom she films most of her scenes.

The drama, which recorded a viewership rating of over seven percent during its most viewed scene thus far, held a press conference in Standford Hotel in Seoul on July 28, where Nana was visibly more at ease than in the press conference before the “The Good Wife” began airing.

During the event, the singer confesses, “This is the first time I’m receiving such good comments and reactions in my career, so I’m honestly astonished.

She continues, “On the one hand I think I should be more modest, but on the other, I think I should be a bit more confident. I must work hard until the end.

Nana is then asked to share the secret behind her solid acting, given that this is her first ever venture into acting in Korea after having only once filmed a Chinese drama. She shares, “More than the staff’s creation of a cool original character, it’s thanks to their creation of a character who brings out the outspokenness in me.

She adds, “I still received a lot of help about the details, like making eye contact.

Furthermore, Nana shares her thoughts on her character, Kim Dan, being bisexual, a fact implicitly acknowledged in the Korean remake of the U.S. series of the same name.

Nana comments, “I knew from the beginning that my character is bisexual, and that didn’t burden me at all. I actually thought it would be more refreshing since there has been no such role in Korean dramas before.

Nana Reflects On 2-Year Preparation And Future Of Her Singing And Acting Career

For singer Nana, who has ventured into K-drama acting for the first time with tvN’s “The Good Wife,” nothing is more important than her next step. As she meets both success and uncertainty with her first acting gig, many anticipate where the After School member decides to take her career from here.

In an interview, she says, “Rather than thinking about what kind of role I want to portray or genre I want to do, right now I’d like to try anything. I’m taking my first step into acting now and I’m at the stage of slowly understanding and studying it. I want to try a variety of roles without restricting myself. I’d like to do theater, indie films, and dramas as well.

Wanting to try her hand at diverse roles, Nana has waited a long time to begin her acting career. The singer-actress didn’t rush into the industry, though she received offers throughout the two years she spent studying. After patiently refining her acting skills, she is now proving her worth through “The Good Wife.”

The After School member explains, “I’ve studied acting for two years. For around a year I worked hard studying vocalization and acting theory whenever I found time in between my promotional activities as a singer. It’s been about two years since I started studying accurate comprehension, analysis, and reading of scripts. My ambition slowly grew as I studied and I started having thoughts like, ‘I want to be on television. I want a role like that,’ but I was still lacking so I had to pass on some opportunities.

She conveys she is often disappointed at her own acting, so Nana is that much more thankful for the praise she has received from viewers.

Nana states, “I think my acting is still unsatisfactory and lacking, so I’m grateful people look upon my weaknesses kindly. That’s why I thought somehow I should be humble and more thankful at the same time.

Though she makes a charming actress, many fans are also anticipating her comeback to the stage, and she herself expresses her fondness for her music career.

She says, “At this time I’m enjoying acting and I have a strong desire to try other roles and characters, but singing is my main job so I do want to stand on stage soon. Arrangements haven’t been made for that yet but once they have, I want to prepare and come back.

Be it acting or singing, whatever Nana does, she wants to do well. However, knowing all too well that sharp critiques are unavoidable, she declares her intentions of working even harder, as all eyes watch her next step.

She shares, “What I do in the future is important. According to what kind of image I’ll show and how prepared I am coming into acting, what many people now think is that I could either go on for a long time or turn back. I know to some degree it depends on my own hard work and effort, so I’ll be working harder, and researching and pondering over it to improve.

Nana Confirms Movie With Hyun Bin And “The Good Wife” Co-Star Yoo Ji Tae

Nana has landed her next acting gig. The actress, who received great reviews for her debut role in “The Good Wife,” had received many offers since playing her character Kim Dan. She has chosen the movie “Kkoon” (translation: “Swindler”) as her next project.

She will be reuniting with Yoo Ji Tae, whom she acted alongside in tvN’s “The Good Wife.” Also starring in the film are Hyun Bin and Park Sung Woong.

“Kkoon” is a film about prosecutors and conmen who get together to catch notorious criminals who got away with 4 trillion won (approximately $3.6 billion).

“Kkoon” is set to start filming in October, and will be hitting theaters next year.

She is quite thoughtful and optimistic in her interview, but she basically confirms that Pledis did nothing for the After School members in the past few years and she ventured into acting on her own.

That's about it. Though you do get the inkling that the women she asks for inside info during some parts of the show are her current or past lovers. I'm almost sure they can't do much on TV, tbh.

tvn (or was it jtbc? i'm not sure, but either way a cable channel) got a warning for showing a girl on girl kiss on that high school investigators show with hyeri. i'm sure they can't do much which is sad. i'm just glad they kept it in

It's pretty good, yeah. Compelling and the cases are interesting. Give it a shot. I feel like there is not much of Nana as there could be, though—as a character, I mean. But she works well with everyone.

I like her as an actress and am interested in seeing where she'll go from here. I think she's off to a good start. I also liked her in that Chinese movie she was in before her drama debut as well.

I wish The Good Wife showed more of her character, though. But, I guess when you have 134 episodes of character development in the original show and then you have to condense that to 16 episodes, that's what happens.

I wish I could still love her but her nasty ass comments about Raina's brownface ruined her for me right quick lmao.

The translator (an AS stan) backtracked, changed their translation and deleted tweets after people said Nana was being racist so unfortunately I cannot provide you with exactly what she said but I can promise you it sounded bad lmao.

It gives me hope to see she still considers singing her main job. Even if Nana wasn't my bias I'd love to see more of the AS girls performing music again in some (any) capacity. They were the group that got me into Kpop in the first place, so it's sad to see them (and OC) kinda just fade away like this.
