These pictures struck me dead, locked me in a box, dropped me 30,000 leagues under the sea, resuscitated me and made me ascend to a higher plane of existence. I love these pictures.
had a look for the interviews. it's probably all translated by now l o l but i couldn't contain my feels, SO.
ONEW speaks mostly about his positive vibes and how he works for that in order to not get angry at himself or others. it's well-treaded ground by now, but still interesting.
'people can't always do what they like. because it's got to be good for you to like it. so it's important that you like something not because you want to impress someone, but because that moment itself is good.'
interviewer asks if the thing he does the most in practice rooms is practice. 'listening to music. i have the music on when i drink coffee, i have the music on when i drink alcohol, i have the music on when i call my friends over to chat; as being a singer became my work, i didn't particularly look for music, but this has made me look again for this song or that song.'
JONGHYUN is someone who constantly compares himself to better singers - no, the best singers - and feels unworthy next to them. he said his self esteem dropped because of /chris brown/ when he was a trainee. but he uses these feelings as a platform to wrestle with himself and make music he himself can get behind. and when that moment comes, he's proud. he says that it's because he has confidence in himself that he can also feel a lack of it.
his mum attended uni when he was in middle school. she was the one that spurred him to be more of himself.
he says that in comparison to his debut days when he wanted respect from those who scoffed at idols and their music, he now simply wants to introduce it to them. the interviewer then comments that he's grown, and he responds 'it could also just be arrogance'.
UGH I LOVE HIM.
KEY's asked for what he thinks is his greatest attribute (esp. in relation to himself as an actor in 'drinking solo'.) he says it's having already been in the field for 8 years. the interviewer asks if it's too small a boast. key disagrees; knowing and feeling comfortable on set is crucial for him.
key actually went out and bought other clothes on the opening day of their most recent concert series bc he didn't like their first costumes.
the interviewer asks why key does so much. is it that he feels anxious if he doesn't work? no, it's that he feels ~warm and fuzzy~ that people give him work - he feels like his ability [is being known]. 'to be honest, it's not as if i was a member particularly in the spotlight since debut. i think it's taken a very long time for me to explain myself/who i am. from a long time ago, i've imagined myself being this busy'. YES.
'do you want to be a person with influence?' 'of course. rather than wanting to be a positive influence, i feel a responsibility to reveal my positive influence. it's very important whether a singer understands that when he/she sings. through the language of music, someone is being comforted and another feels joy, so we need to understand what is being done even without our knowledge so to make better future plans'. YES THANK YOU.
MINHO's interview is mostly about his acting work. i skimmed it shHHH. (it's 2.35am here rn.)
the interviewer comments on how in may this year, he copied his debut raps. is this for sentiment's sake? 'i think it was cute how i pretended to be mature to not seem lacking. even if i returned back to that moment now, i'd probably act the same. although of course, it would be different if i went to the past with my current memories intact. if that was the case, hm, it's as if i would realise things too quickly? - because it's boring when you know everything.
'how do you hang out with people you're close to?' 'we just drink. and at the end, we all pass out at (dbsk's) changmin hyung's place; that's our pattern. because his house is the nicest. that place is the 'last stop', but it's still pretty fun. two years ago when there was misaeng (the drama) fever, we all dressed in business attire and drank at pojangmacha's, searching for the best restaurants in the country.' THIS IS SO EMBARRASSING TRUST THIS GROUP OF GUYS.
'minho, there are a lot of examples of your lovely behaviour online'. 'i think that's due to my parents' influence. they always told me, "be humble, work hard". 'are there times when that personality is hard [to keep up]?' 'no, not at all. if that was tiring, it would be fake'. AND IT'S AT TIMES LIKE THIS I HAVE TO TAKE A STEP BACK AND RESPECT HIS WORK/LIFE ETHIC. there is always one thing he says in each interview that bowls me over.
'i felt this at this concert: before, it was always 'let's not get it wrong on stage, let's do it mistake-free, let's do each and every action accurately'. as a result, because i spent too much energy in the beginning, many of the details would later fall apart. whenever this happened, i only thought i had to try harder. but i've grown to know more about the energy that's specific to the stage. i can feel how i use the strength [now].
'while i have a job that exposes me to any/all people, ironically, i dislike places with lots of people.' 'yes, you look like it.' 'yes. (laughs) but that's different again from the stage. i've done some acting too, but i get shy in front of the camera. and passive. but on stage, how do i say it, it's as if there's no barrier? i feel as if i can show everything. though i'm a celebrity, it's too hard to show myself on variety shows. as if i'm trapped there.'
'i seriously have a lot of greed - i want to show my music, my self to more people. these days, music shops, and tv music programs also, i feel that they're not as vibrant as before. to make my self be known, to stand on a lot of stages - that kind of greed. i want to [work] properly in japan, and in korea too. you know they say, "if you're a man, at least cut the radish" - it's a life i live only once, shouldn't i live it properly - that kind of thing.' ... 'what about in relation to your members?' 'i feel that the five of us have similar goals. we want to show more, climb higher, do better. honestly, if you think 'shinee', i don't think there's really a hit song. so perhaps there's a thirst in us that has not been sated.' ... 'what might the future be?' 'if there's something i've tried but failed at, i think that ah, i can't do it. but i never ever give up. 'there's no reason for you to give up.' 'yes, i think so too.' 'let's try, then.' 'if i do it, i do it.' (or 'if i start it/i say i'll do it, i do it.')

i haven't been on omona much at all for the last couple of years. my obsession with kpop has also receded over the past eight years. but these guys still mean so much to me, and i'm always struck by their interviews. i've seen enough and read enough of their public images that nothing seems particularly new to me anymore (EXCEPT FOR MINHO'S ANTICS WITH HIS FRIENDS UGH SO EMBARRASSING HELP), but rather deepens the view i have of them. and it's a lovely feeling.
They are seriously a straightforward and just amazing group holy shit. They work so hard and are just happy with their progress but never afraid to try their best and gett out there too. But this is me being insanely biased.
You're right that they're not saying anything thats exactly new but rather then feel stale it simply feels more mature? Its like their core values remain but just deepen over time. When I think back to their 2010 GQ interview and now its the feeling of indivduals who have come to know and understand themselves and each other. Watching their transtion from teens to adults has been quite pleasent.
Very true, but even in the pictures in colour it's looking a lot better. Like much of the grey has washed out leaving it more a silvery blonde, which is like heaps better than that first steel grey mess.
this is such a nice photoshoot ;_; i thought for sure that jongyu pic was going to be my favorite (thanks gq for including it <3) but wow a lot of these pictures are simply gorgeous, especially minho's set. it's all so soft and pretty and i'm officially on board with regards to his hair.
i'm so emo because of what onew said, i just love shinee a lot. can't wait to read the full interviews, from the bits and pieces i've seen translated it seems like it'll be good (but i have pretty high expectations because of their last gq interviews lol).
so many beautiful pictures, we are so blessed ;w; i've been reading snippets of the interviews and gOD I LOVE THE BOYS SO MUCH <3 i'm really in love with minho's new hairstyle and the magazine made it look even more handsome ^^ aLSO BLESS THOSE GROUP PICS AND DUO PICS :):):):):)
I'm feeling a lot of things, so I don't think I can do this today, lol. Add that to my inability to be maturely tasteful about Minho's Hair-road To Success and other things? I'm just going to smile and nod.
this was a really nice shot with very interesting answers ....you have to keep an eye on shinee they're beautiful inside and out, forever interesting and my favorite thing about kpop :D
