I’ve been working on the next batch of Flashback Fridays over the past couple of days, and we’re definitely starting to transition from the summer jams to more a mellow fall coming up. Still bops, but definitely a different vibe. Anywhos, I’m getting ahead of myself! I check out the charts for this Friday in a past year and post the top three songs. Then, I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week we’ll be going back three years, to the 3rd week of September, 2013.

#3 Teen Top “Rocking”
The only part of the song I remember is that part when there’s no lyrics and they’re just doing that shuffly feet dance thing. Why were they fighting in the beginning? And why was it never brought up again? Teen Top MVs continue to confuse me.

#2 Sunmi “24 Hours”
I really like this song and I like the choreography, but I don’t like the MV. I still can’t make it past the first couple of seconds, even 3 years later. I have no idea why I hate it so much, but I’d rather just watch the lives. But I really liked this hair on her.

#1 Kara “Damaged Lady”
I was not a fan of this era at all, honestly. And this MV…they look like they are wearing prom dresses, and not cute ones. The styling could’ve been so much better! But I think they all look so beautiful in the scenes where they are sitting on the throne with crowns on.

Honorable Mentions

#6 EXO “Growl”

I think this is the right version of the song? This is the only version that I recognize lol. I like this MV because one of my uniform choices in high school was in that exact same shade of grey and we had white button ups too, so I feel deeply connected to these looks.

#10 Spica “Tonight”

I feel like I’m biased about my love for this MV because like 85% of my wardrobe comes from Free People. But I think this is the best Tumblr/Instagram/Festival aesthetic/vibe/whatever you want to call it KPop MV. They look cute with all the minimal makeup and hair, and the whole thing just looks fun. This MV features cameos from the song’s co-writer, Lee Hyori, who is somewhere on a farm on Jeju Island right now ignoring our pleas for another “U-go-Girl”.

Only 3 years since Growl??? lmao why do I feel it was much longer? I knew Exo trough growl so maybe is that. I remember when I listened to the song and went to search for the MV in youtube my reaction was "I can't see anything why is so dark"

I loved Sunmi's 24h, but let's be honest - the look was a complete Ga-In rip off.

Growl is one of EXO's best songs, and I loveee that choreography. Tao, Luhan, Kris... </3

I didn't like 24 Hours. I loved the Full Moon mini, though.

I was just thinking about Damaged Lady today! My ears were ready for the flashback.

I love Tonight, the colours are beautiful and it just embodies such a joyful feeling.

I can't believe Rocking is only from 3 years but same op, that bit is the only part of the song I ever remember lol

All of this feels like yesterday. And then when you look at it, it was ONLY 3 years ago? These were all the first videos I watched of these groups, too, not counting Kara and Spica.

I've literally been waiting so long to see Exo's name in the tags just so I had an excuse to come in these posts lol.

I remember Growl vividly, it was my first ever repackage comeback since I had started liking kpop. I remember people talking about how popular it was and hearing it a bunch in the background of random videos of kvloggers when out and about.

Oddly enough, I love 24 Hours, but Full Moon never did it for me. Either way I'm glad Sunmi was able to come back to kpop and enjoy her success.

My friend hates me for saying it but that Teen Top mv and song is a mess, the song is all over the place and the video is too, it's honestly just incredibly dated (like it reminds me of that hamster dance techno song), The lyrics are probably the worse part about it for me bc I guess the switch from "tragic failing relationship" to "party party party" just doesn't work for me.

I don't really follow Exo but I never realized how much I liked Growl.

This was like, the summer I got into kpop but being before i followed it seriously, so I remember all these coming up in my youtube recommendations and I remember being OBSESSED with 24 Hours and Damaged Lady (still two ultimate bops tbqh)

I never really got into Exo (and my boy groups-biased friend and me used to spend hours on skype laughing at bad gifs from their debut mvs) but Growl is legit. Kris was my favourite (just because he was hot).

i remember 24 hours bc for months the weekly idol mcs made every guest dance to that song

Oh my god!! Growl!! That's how I got into kpop in the first place tho it was the MAMA performance I saw first I think(??) But yeah so Growl has a special place in my heart despite the fact that it's lyrics traumatised me (or wait was it Wolf's? It was such a long time ago!) and I refused to look up kpop lyrics til mid 2k16. Ahh memories! And ot12 ofc!! I'm happy for the three who left but I do get terribly nostalgic ;__;

I liked 24 hours as a song but her styling in that video aged her 10 years.

Growl was a masterpiece. It made me become a fan of them. Most of their titles since then have been amazing.

I remember when Teen Top Rocking came out I was starting to get more KPOP and I loved the song and watching them dance. I think I watched the video at least 3 times a day for over a month or two. I think Teen Top is one of the groups that dances really well and they don't get enough credit for it.

As I said I was still just getting into KPOP and I remember Exo Growl being played on everything and being talked about.
