CL is so cute. I enjoyed this performance more than her MV, despite her weird outfit.

For her first US tv debut this wasnt that bad. The outfit is way too busy and I was never really a fan of the song, but her stage presence here really sells the performance for me. Her having James sing and dance with her for a bit was cute too

She did great I'm happy she didn't seem nervous or out of her element. The stage was elaborate and I love it and she was hella cute. The song is still lacking bcs of the lyrics but she did well. Hopefully the next song she promotes will have more substance.

Rumor has it she'll do more TV performances and start radio promo but I'm not holding my breath until I sew it confirmed.

to be honest this song really isn't bad. When I saw the mv, I thought it was pretty bland but seeing her do it live I feel like it's catchy enough. Now she just needs to get herself a really good collab.

This was a cute performance, she seemed confident and it was a good introduction to her.

I don't think the song is as bad as others seem to, the only problem I really have is the that lyrics aren't great.

Her team needs to send this song to the radio though, and book more performances (like Fallon). It was good that the Late Late Show uploaed this performance, because then it might interest subscribers of his that don't know her.

Good to see she's doing a bit of promo, that has definitely been lacking so far.

this was a really good and fun performance! idk i feel like scooter should be doing more to promote her and the song like get her on more shows heck let viners promote the song just do something.

lol someone in the youtube comment section said nicki had to better ready her bars cause cl's coming for her crown... i mean with those lyrics...?

Reading the comments here first still didn't prepare me for how awful that outfit was haha

This was a fun performance though and I still don't like the song much but her stage presence really sold it

She's such a great performer, she's able to sell this mediocre song. She could be huge if they'd get her decent material.
Also I don't think anybody wants to know your style when you're dressed like a hobo who found an Ardene's dumpster

I don't care, I like the song, and I mean even before watching this performance. It gets in me in a good mood. I guess it helps that not being fluent in english I don't even know what she is singing about and I can ignore the lyrics. And I also don't mind what she is wearing here in the performance.

Conclusion: I have really questionable taste lol

That part of idol fandom doesnt really translate over to the states. Especially when idols attempt a solo or group transition into the US market like she is. I doubt you'll ever see lightsticks in the crowd (especially of a late night show where the crowd is mid 20s to mid 40s) unless provided by her team for the audience to use during the performance.

i just have...a vague discomfort from this song/performance, and i think it's something to do with the "hood" image/concept that CL is trying to portray...it's hard to put it into words, other than saying it makes me frown

Sometimes I find kpop fan's idea of a "hood" image confusing. From the set to the camera movements, this was a tv pop performance not unlike the ones given like four times a week in Korea.

It was a cute performance. Definitely much better with a band and choreography. Hopefully she gets to do more.

From: [identity profile] cherrypop.livejournal.com
I would go a step further and say that Kpop fans are applying their own inherent racism to performances that show anything but. What was "hood" about this? Come on. Seriously?

Date: 2016-09-18 11:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ponpirot.livejournal.com
You could have at least responded to the person who made the "hood" comment.

And yes, she is clearly trying to portray herself as being "down"

Anyway, the performance was cute but not enough to sell the song.

From: [identity profile] chukachukachoo.livejournal.com
I'm not sure why you're so concerned with my comment but people have been calling CL a hoodrat since Fire came out. And what is she "down" for in this performance? Drinking, smoking some weed, having fun? The only people who think anyone is trying to be hard, hood, or down for doing regular Saturday night crap are kpop fans.

Date: 2016-09-16 05:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] goshipgurl.livejournal.com
still dont like the song but shes a great performer (one of the best in kpop tbh) and that saved the performance
compared to the stiff performances soshi or WG had in the US this is much better cuz she actually walks around, interacts with the crowd and the hosts and looks like shes having fun.

Date: 2016-09-16 05:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dickslikejesus.livejournal.com
I don't get any of the "trying to be hood" vibes from this performance at all. It feels very poppy to me, I could see someone saying she's trying to be "cool" but nothing about it save for the clear references to smoking weed and obviously the source material feels particularly "hood"

I like the performance a lot, I sometimes forget CL has the charisma to perform a lot of awful things in a way that is still entertaining. I also don't think the song is that bad, and I'm very amused people keep talking about the lyrics as if every popular song has crazy hot fire lyrics like it's all written by Kendrick Lamar or Chance the rapper.

I wanna remind you that Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Migos, Desiigner, and Lil Yachty just to name a few are all still poppin right now. Music is more about feeling good, not so much about fire lyrics anymore. Look at the songs that went platinum in 2016, a good handful of them are just catchy and not lyrically impressive what so ever.

CL can do better, the lyrics are pretty bad, but the song feels good and that is wildly more important for western commercial success the majority of the time.

Yeah this performance has a more pop/hipster/trendy feel, this is the route the video should have had tbh.

CL is a very charismatic person, she has the international star quality a lot of foreign acts trying to make it in the US lack, we can't deny that.

Date: 2016-09-16 11:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dickslikejesus.livejournal.com
I like the video personally, but I agree that this particular feeling is a better fit for the video and CL in general.

Yeah, and don't get me wrong by NO MEANS do I think that she's going to be a sure fire star. I think the deck is ridiculously stacked against her from her management, to the fact that she's a kpop star and the stigma that particular label brings. I do think though that she probably has the best chance out of all the attempts that have been made.

She probably has like a 2 in 100 chance of making it, while everyone else was either 0 or 1 in 100.

I know people will bring up the Wonder Girls, but they were an anomaly that stayed in their lane and their level of "success" in the west reflects that.

It was good! I wasn't sure about this because her us management is really lacking but they did a good job. It wasn't that typical standing in the center of a stage just doing the dance routine, it had more flow.
Did she lose weight? Her legs look thinner, but it could be her stockings tricking me

She did great with, let's face it, a mediocre, if catchy, song. And getting James in on the act was cute, too.

Still a mediocre song for me. The performance was fine, nothing that's going to make me have to remember it but it's fine.

It was good! I don't like how people are applying a "concept" to this because I can't find such a concept at all, just that it's a fun song, and if it's not your speed cool.

Very low standards here. She looked cute and happy but far from commanding the stage.
