[OSEN=선미경 기자] BLACKPINK will end their promotions for their debut album “SQUARE ONE” after appearing on Inkigayo this weekend.

On September 6, sources confirmed that BLACKPINK will appear on SBS’s Inkigayo on September 11 and then end their debut album promotions. Inkigayo will not air during the Chuseok holiday season, so BLACKPINK’s last TV appearance will take place on September 11.

BLACKPINK released their debut album “SQUARE ONE” on August 8, and its title tracks—“WHISTLE” and “BOOMBAYAH”—swept the charts. “WHISTLE” kept the no.1 spot on the charts for almost a month, which is rare for a rookie. BLACKPINK also became the girl group that topped music show charts in the shortest time. Because of their enormous popularity, BLACKPINK’s promotions went on longer than originally planned.

YG officials said, “BLACKPINK will be doing their last TV appearance on September 11 and end their debut album promotions. We thank the fans for their support. We’re sorry that BLACKPINK could not do promotions for longer although it was longer that what we’ve planned. BLACKPINK will be working hard on the new album from now on. We think that releasing a good album is the only way to reciprocate the fans’ love. BLACKPINK will do a wider range of promotions for their next album”.

BLACKPINK is the first girl group that YG launched in seven years, and upon debut, the group took Korea’s pop music scene by storm. They proved that they have the talent and the looks with their debut album, and expectations are running high for their next album.

I'm looking forward to it.

I hope they release a "ballad" at some point. Some of 2NE1's slower songs are some of my favorites by them (e.g. If I were you) and I think BP could pull it off. I really like Rose's tone and I am looking forward to hearing more of her voice in particular.

Me too! 'Missing you' continues to be brilliant imo, if Teddy hooks BP up with a track like that it could be amazing.

TBH I don't care if they don't promote on 3 music shows, I always thought the promoting the same song 3 times a week, even with the novelty of new stage outfits, it doesn't seem worth the effort since they have to record almost all day, idk, if groups would promote different songs I would understand, but the same song?
But what it does bother me, and it's one of the things that I love about kpop, it's that there are multiple other things that you can do to promote yourself as a group, doing interviews, varietys, Vapp (online bradcast), live performances in schools, festivals, etc and they haven't done any of those things, I really hope the BlackpinkTV is happening soon, I actually want to know more of the girls personalities, they seem so lovely

promoting on music shows helps them build their performance skills. they're charismatic as is, but these shows are a good way for them to develop in that area + they can meet other idols and make friends. promoting is not a bad thing, esp for rookies fresh out of the basement imo. ia with the rest

If improving performance skills is something that they can gain with music shows, then groups should be able to perform more than one or two songs, especially for those who realesed a full album. I still think it's a waste for a group to perform the same song in 3 different music shows for 3/4 weeks in a row, it doesn't makes sense even for rookies considering no many people actually watchs those programs. I do agree in making friends with other idol groups but that doean't seem to happen with YG groups a lot for what I've seen

idk the way i see, more than it just being 1 or 2 songs, it's getting accustomed to being on stage, camera work, stage direction, team-work and synchronicity, live vocals, confidence, how to interact with a crowd and all that stuff. lots of fans go to music shows too so it gives them chances to interact with them and have fanmeets and backstage interviews and the little variety segments some shows do. it's kinda sad bp fans don't get these things

But it's almost the same stage one after the other, if it were a bit different maybe they could gain more stage experience. I also consider the fact that music shows come one day after the other, so I see how at the recording of the third show on the second week most idol groups are dead tired. To get better at performing you have to consider that you need resting time so you won't look dead and can actually give you all in the performance, this system of performing the same song after the other with long hours of recording just to repeat the same thing the next day doesn't seem like a good experience to improve your stage presence/moves/singing/dancing/etc, the rest that you need as a peformer is not considered and that can actually be negative performance wise in the long run. I agree with the meeting fans part, I know how valuable is for them this time because they can actually interact directly with them, but still I think it's too much.

agree to disagree i guess. i found these shows to be a lot of help to my faves in that sense. there's a lot of things wrong but they helped a lot too. i'm sure there could be a middle way to take, it's yg, they'd never go on 6 music shows a week and where bp has no schedules at all 2 or 3 shows wouldn't be bad exposure. i wouldn't mind them not going on music shows if they did anything else at all, but they're not and it's annoying. i hate this strategy

I agree in the part that they could do more performances, but outside the system of these Kpop music shows IMO, there're other options and it'll be good for them and their fans to have more tv appearemces and performances

yeah it would definitely! but you know how these broadcasting companies work, if you don't attend their music shows they don't really invite you for their other shows. it's screwed up and they have too much power, but this happens

I hope it won't take long to release those new songs! An album would be ideal but I'll take anything. I hope there will be at least one slow song, I love Rosé's voice and YG groups usually have great ballads (especially 2NE1).
The company better push them forward after such a successful debut! Using Black Pink TV as an "in between promo" before coming back would be ideal, make it happen YG!

their whole debut era was so upsetting. even my wish to see them on more shows, varieties &etc aside - every group deserves proper debut era with actual promotions. like jisoo mentioned that they don't feel like their debut happened because they just sit in dorms without any schedules. they didn't even have opportunity to interact with fans on music shows and have mini fanmeetings which is actually integral for building a fandom these days.
i don't know how people buy into "yg has a strategy! that's to keep mystery" when in reality it's just.... he doesn't care. it's not a strategy but a simple laziness and huge ego.
