Oh My Girl's JinE is Currently w/Family in Hometown & Receiving Outpatient Treatment

On August 31, a source from WM Entertainment commented on the welfare of Oh My Girl’s JinE who recently took a break from activities to focus on treatment for anorexia.

The source revealed, “JinE is currently resting and receiving treatment in Pohang where her parents reside. JinE is recovering her health with her parents taking care of her in her hometown. She is receiving outpatient treatment and is getting better. The agency is continually checking in on her condition.”

The source continued, “The agency is doing their best since her health is most important. [She] will be focusing on recovering.”

Revealing more information on her condition, the source stated, “JinE’s weight recently entered the lower 40kg [40kg is approximately 88 pounds) range. Previously, she was having an extremely hard time weighing less than 40kg. We hope that she will be able to return [after recovering].”

tbh thank god. i'm thrilled that she's surrounded by family and focusing on getting better. it will be significantly easier out of the public eye and i wish her the best no matter how long it takes. *side eyes "we hope she will be able to return"

Happy to know that her company is actually serious about her condition and is willing to let her recover out of the public eye with people that are close to her.

That being said, being an idol is full of triggers so I hope she doesn't fall back into old habits once she returns.

Someone's 'ideal' weight indeed differs according to their height but these companies dgaf. It's all about the numbers on the scale. I've gotten the impression members of a girlgroup often get played out against each other about who weighs the least/loses the most weight, so they actually get competitive with each other? It's all extremely fucked up.

several gg members and ex trainees have said that companies weigh the girls publicly and the girls know each others weights to "motivate" each other and encourage competition

Exactlyyyyy. That kind of environment is absolutely fucking poisinous. A while ago Sorn from CLC uploaded message onto their website (in different languages) and in the English one she was like "The other members are so slim and lose so much weight and I'm just so FAT." like ???? save this kid?!

I think we even saw this in a Lovelyz (?) video awhile back (not sure maybe it was "Lovelyz in Wonderland") where they all got weighed together. No way I could handle that.

I think it's translated weird. I think it's saying that her weight was in the 30s but it's gotten in the 40s since her treatment.


I don't doubt WM is most of them blame anyway though

Poor girl. I hope she has access to good care, and it's a good news that she's back home and far from the idol world for a while. It's already so hard to fight and ED, so this while being an idol... my heart aches for her
I used to be 160 and around 50kg and was already thin, so I can't imagine how tiring it is to weigth less and have such a demanding schedule as OMG have since the beginning of the year. Even if she's 5cm smaller than me (could be, since companies generally add a few cm to official height counts) and obviously a different body type, it's still thin.
I worry for the other members too

88 lbs is absolutely insane. is it just the thing where tv cameras make you look bigger? because i never imagined her weight could drop THAT low. at that weight you could practically drop dead any second.

i'm so glad that she's able to spend time home with her family. ;; i hope wm doesn't try and drag her back too fast. like, tbh, i'm glad that they're letting her take time off but i'm not going to give them a pat on the back for it either because they should've let her go home and get the help that she needed last october when they first reported to media on it, rather than force her to promote through two three comebacks in a short span of time after. (but maybe i'm just upset at wm overall because multiple members of the group have been publicized as being in bad health, namely hyojung and binnie.)

mte, this is the bare minimum they should be doing, esp considering it's likely they're largely responsible for this happening. in an ideal world they'd give her as many months and years away as she needed with a guaranteed spot in the group when she was ready to return.

it will definitely take some time to properly heal, but i hope she can pursue the path she wants to. whether that's retiring or rejoining the group. if being a singer is her dream, then i would hate for her to have to give up on it.

as someone who had ED I could say that with the right mindset (and professional help) she can recover and not triggered, nowadays I'm okay even when people tell me that I look fat or pointing at my fats (though obviously I would think that they are assholes).

Noo I hope not. If it's only physical symptoms that are treated I have a feeling that it will be the company's fault because they want her back promoting asap but I really hope the doctors convince wm that she needs long term psychological help too. I mean it can't be in this day and age that people don't know how life threatening anorexia is, especially doctors

they're doctors though, not plastic surgeons. i would expect that ignorance in other people but not the doctors. there's pressure all over the world for women to look a certain way not just korea but they took the Hippocratic oath so i would hope they would focus on her well being. she will probably be back in a few months but it will be the company's fault rather than the doctors since their main goal is to make a profit

I hope she gets the help she needs but the company culture probably contributedto this, so I hope they change the way they talk about body image around omg and maybe they could also limit her variety show appearances if she comes back. And of course give the rest of the girls a break. They've been promoting non stop :/

I used to have ED during my high school years and luckily I could somewhat recover without professional help and have quite normal relationship with food now even though it took me years to stop counting calories and all that.
I can say even though it's been 10 years I do still feel the physical side effects.

under 40kgs for 159cm is definitely way too low, my height is around 150cm and I look scarily bony (even though at the time I didn't think so, and still wanting to lose more fats) when I was around 38kgs.

i wonder if it's a good idea to name her illness. sometimes labels stick even after you've recovered. and it might affect her later on. but i do think it's brave of her to come out with this. bringing to light something that is usually kept a secret in the entertainment industry would probably help someone in some way. i hope she gets the support and treatment that she needs to recover.
