Oh My Girl rep apologize for YooA's education controversy

Oh My Girl’s agency WM Entertainment has responded to the controversy regarding misinformation about YooA’s educational background.

Netizens are claiming that while YooA in a past interview claimed that she graduated from Sejong University with a dance degree, she actually graduated from the global knowledge continuing education program at Sejong University.



On August 28, WM Entertainment posted an official statement to Oh My Girl’s official fan cafe clarifying YooA’s schooling, saying, “Oh My Girl member YooA’s educational background was inaccurately transcribed in the media interview, and we want to clarify that [she graduated from] the ‘applied dance department from the Sejong University global knowledge continuing education program.'”

The agency also apologizes for not clarifying the misinformation sooner. “We were not able to review the published article [containing the interview] and the automatically updated information on the portal site, and we apologize for this belated correction,” the agency says.





She only attended Sejong University's dance training institute but kept saying in interviews that she was majoring in dance at Sejong University.

I don't really understand the overreaction about Yooa. This kind of shows want the most incredible stories (and hosts usually push in this direction for shock value), of course she is going to exagerate her experiences to play the game and get attention. Yet when she is caught doing it, she's a pathological liar?

There was no reason to release an official apology, especially now, when people are not so fond of Yooa after this weird story she told on radio star, because it wasn't as issue in the first place. They literally started it i'm screaming. And it's not the first time they created a scandal. well, it was wrong of her to lie too much. she's not too good with fabricating stories like other idols. i know lots of celebs lie on broadcast, it's sad that it was her who got caught.
honestly tho, what do you expect? to be an idol, you have to be pretty, talented, has great background, interesting stories, etc. her group needs the attention. she has to look good.

i think it's funny that people never considered the fact that she could've been coached by management to exaggerate her background on broadcast to bring the group more attention. and i like how they want to drag her for being "attention hungry" when most idols are like that, if not worse. it's kind of difficult to choose a career where nearly every aspect of your life is broadcasted for others to see when you don't enjoy at least some of that attention. and regardless of whether she's a "dance major" or not, she's an extremely natural and charismatic dancer. it's truly a joy to see her perform on stage.

tl;dr her actions are extremely common for an idol, and yet she's getting so much flack because people just want a reason to hate on her/omg and to label her as a pathological liar when they sure as hell know that most idols aren't exactly the guardian saints of truth.

I would not go as far as calling her mythomaniac either, a lot of celebs tell fake stories, often it's so obvious and kinds cringe etc. but it's dumb as fuck to do it in topic of education when sometimes it's seems like Korea treats ed as some kind of Holy Grail/very serious thing that totally defines you.
