It's so cute seeing her fangirl over method man I guess everyone who was uncomfortable with the people in the video can feel better now because those are her actual friends
Yeah me too. I think it's a jerk reaction cuz often times we are used as props in most Kpop mvs But when I listen to all sides of the argument I felt like she wasn't using them as props. I'm the last one to defend YG I usually can't stand most YG idols beside akmu but she didn't do anything wrong in this to me. She danced with those black men in the same way she has done with Korean men and they turned out to be her friends. I prefer this over anything else she put out and I give her props for filming in Brooklyn/Bronx and not erasing the people that live there like BigBang and their glorification of white beauty standards.
Yeah for sure it is, and I think it's a completely justified reaction to these kinds of things. I'm half African-American and I often say that while I am very much so a victim of racism pretty often, I never face it as fiercely as people people of full African descent so I try to mostly stay out of it now. In this case it was hard for me because CL has often had a lot of friends from different walks of life and she strikes me as a genuinely nice person when she's with people (though her social media presence feels fake to me.) So I felt like this video showcased her friends really more than her.
Big Bang is guilty of it for sure for sure, but so is basically every Korean label that uses western people because clearly Korean labels think anything more than like a 2 dollar spray tan is dark and ugly. :| /sigh.
She's not going to do well in the US. She will be dragged to hell and back for her cultural appropriation and her use of minorities as a prop. Idk why YG pushed forward with this debut knowing that these elements are intricately tied with her image. What happened to Iggy should be a cautionary tale to all non black rappers, especially the ones who built a career off of stealing from another group's culture. Best of luck I guess.
i read few comments in here saying it feels better now that we know the people in the mv are her friends, and i'm not arguing with that, but they could've thrown some asian in there. esp since she always say she wants to represent asian girls /shrug/ i'm not hating, i'd still eat whatever bop she's throwing, but it just looks odd to me
and lol back when i used to watch mtv, dave meyers sounds like a huge mv director. like every relevant singers had their video directed by him. it's not like that anymore right?
