On August 24, a source spoke with Sports Chosun and informed, “Due to the recent SNS controversy that evoked criticism Tiffany will not be attending the SM Entertainment 20th anniversary Hawaii large-scale workshop to show self-reflection.”

Previously, SM Entertainment revealed that they would have a large-scale conference in Hawaii starting August 28. The workshop was scheduled to be attended by all SM Entertainment employees including Kangta, BoA, Super Junior, f(x), EXO, Red Velvet, and more. Around 350 individuals were expected to attend.

However, Tiffany’s recent SNS posts around Korea’s National Liberation Day were met with great criticism. The controversy lead to the singer getting removed from variety show “Sister’s Slam Dunk.”

I suppose Kangin isn't going either? Are they blowing this out of proportion? What do you think, Omona?

I hardly think this particular thing is being blown out of proportion.
She fiucked up and created a huge mess that her employer has to clean up and that caused them a loss. Some kind of loss of priviliges or disciplinary action would ensure in any workplace as a result of that. Not to mention that this entire hiatus is to prove that she's reflecting and partying it up on a beach in Hawai'i isn't the way to show that.
Although if Kangin's criminal ass is allowed to go, someone should drop kick him into the nearest volcano

But was she even going to be going in the first place? Because I thought I read that SNSD, NCT, and SHINee were not going to Hawaii because of scheduling and upcoming comebacks.

I mean it's sad but it's for the better. She has to reflect, vacationing in Hawaii isn't gonna help her and give her a good look.

we have a saying that whoever is not there is going to be talked about. and this is probably going to be the case in this workshop.

this is a company retreat and this is not just a vacation. this is more of a team building. and if sme is smart, they would hire someone who can help their idols manage their sns better and to help them be more culturally sensitive/aware. and just not for east asia but for the rest of the world.

This is necessary to fix her image with the public, not a punishment so I don't think it's blowing anything up
An exaggerated action would be to cancel her contract with sm, she's just not participating of a company event

yea. like others said: the trip was originally supposed to start on the 26th but they delayed it to the 28th and exo-l's are saying that exo are going because of that. they're probably done with promos this weekend anymore. shinee (concert and comeback prep) and nct dream (promos) are apparently the groups not going, and possibly the rest of soshi.

and why the rest of soshi?

they only promoted for two? three? for ex'act and they have a tour in japan that starts mid-sept that they probably have to prep for buuuut. i'm not 100% about soshi. they weren't specified as one of the groups going in the naver article so some sones are speculating they're not going.

i haven't heard that but i wouldn't be surprised if they did. apparently soshi are confirmed for a group schedule in october and some were speculating if she'd be back by then, but idk. i def think this means goodbye to that scheduled tts comeback tho.

her year started off so good for her but now she totally ruined it.
should just go back to LA for the rest of the year to escape the korean media

Date: 2016-08-25 07:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] xxhna.livejournal.com
i don't think the korean public would look to kindly on her going on a trip to hawaii when she should be 'reflecting'. its a good move to stay out of the public eye till things settle down.

Date: 2016-08-25 07:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] seulgibear.livejournal.com
it's good she's not going, it's better for her to keep a low profile for the rest of the year and especially not show up at the airport ready to take a holiday. i still wish they released a proper apology but that's sm business. that said, kangin better be sitting his ass at home too

Na. Pictures of her partying on a wonderful beach would get her even more hate. It makes sense of her to get out of the public eye for a while.
It was dumb, and she doesn't deserve to be blacklisted from the industry, but a hiatus is better in this situation

Date: 2016-08-25 08:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sayuridoll.livejournal.com
I better not see pictures of Kangin on the beach if Tiffany is also reflecting. I wish SM would of released an official apology.
Lbr, the most we are missing with SNS Queen Tiffany gone is that she snaps every other person and people live for it.

I wonder what this means for the TTS comeback slated for the end of the year. I guess we can kiss that goodbye.

i guess this is an unpopular opinion, but i really don't think this has been overblown or it's a witchhunt (and i'd say the same even if it was someone i actually liked). of course i don't agree with the sexist insults, or people saying she should be raped or mentioning her mother. but this is honestly a big deal and she completely shot herself in the foot with that nonapology. i keep thinking how if you were an outsider who had no clue what happened you still wouldn't know why she was apologizing. and i get why she/sm did that, bc of japanese money, but it still sucks.

sidenote: did she delete her snapchat/instagram? bc she should.

Date: 2016-08-26 12:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] lovelyxbeauty.livejournal.com
I don't think it's overblown either, she didn't just post the imperial Japanese flag, she posted it on the day Korea celebrates it's independence after suffering for 35 years under Japanese rule. Sometimes you have to accept (valid) criticisms about your favs and the fact it'll follow them for the rest of their careers (and I'm not talking about death/rape threats targeted towards Tiffany before anyone comes at me)

It's the right PR move given how hostile people are toward her right now, best to lay low. But is that hostility waaaay over the top? Yes. She made a mistake out of ignorance, not malice, but she's been living in the country long enough, she should have known better, people are right to be offended. So of course she should be reprimanded. But to kick her out of Sisters' Slam Dunk and to stick her in the dungeon indefinitely is too much, you'd think she'd been caught selling drugs to kids or smth. Now that I see a good number of Korean people saying this has been blown out of proportion I feel more comfortable saying I think it's overkill, too. It also would have been nice to see more discussion about the rising sun flag and how little awareness has been raised about its history and meaning outside of Asia. I mean it's a symbol that's comparable to the swastika and yet very few people in the west would recognize it or even bat an eye at it, it's a common stamp in almost any Japanese souvenir merchandise...

no way could she go without damaging her reputation even more. even if she had gone as quietly as possible, there'd no doubt be paparazzi/sasaeng pics of her Not Reflecting and it'd become more of a shitstorm.

is this blown out of proportion? i think so, yes. but i'm the kind of person who thinks nationalism is terrible and would possibly have to write an essay on the cons of victimhood nationalism to explain my thoughts behind this particular case and i don't have the energy to do that

Date: 2016-08-26 01:54 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] msgrottesca.livejournal.com
I hate nationalism too but I don't really think this is the place for that argument. There are still people living now who were tortured under Japanese rule - it is a very important holiday for that very reason. It's not just about celebrating what Korea has become but also remembering the atrocities of the past and the people who suffered. That's not nationalism imo, it's just staying aware of your history.

It's for the best tbh. She should've written a proper apology, a 'heartfelt hand-written apology' means bugger all when you wouldn't know what she was apologising for if you didn't know what was going on.

it's really not out of proportion. my grandparents were victims of japanese rule during ww2 in the philippines, i can't even begin to imagine how amplified that hurt is for koreans. i doubt she's some sort of japanese imperialist but how could she be so insensitive? at her age, with her privilege, in her position, ***there is no excuse for not knowing better*** as an i-sone since their debut i am incredibly hurt by what she did, her ignorance showing in her apology too, and that sme and snsd have yet to put out anything more substantial regarding the issue. tiffany could fuck off for all i care at this point unless she and sme apologize for real.

i dont understand why some people would call this an exageration ... not even sure if this trip mean some kind of benefit

its like a "special activity" with all your co-workers ... you are in hawaii but all people from work is there too....
it doesnt sound like vacations or like some kind of privilege

There were people screaming for her to be kicked out the country, her missing a vacation and being taken off one show is not too much.

And it doesn't matter if unnie didn't mean it, she still did something incredibly stupid and problematic. Don't Ifans have enough experience with dragging idols for things that they didn't "mean to do in a bad way" or don't understand?

She and SM should try harder to make this right because comments are going to be following her for the rest of her career now. And I wanted a SNSD comeback...

idt it's an overreaction, public perception matters a lot in her line of work and this is an appropriate step considering that.

Tho it's funny to think that we have our own Independence day on the same date and I cannot for the life of me imagine any Indian celeb getting reactions like these if they posted that they were in London/had a Union Jack filter on their social media.

This is nice and sweet but tbh while I appreciate this heartfelt apology when are we getting that apology for her colorist post I feel like just because that didn't generate a lot of heat with the Korean public she and SM just shoved that under the rug and pretended it never happened
