Date: 2016-08-26 06:10 am (UTC)and 21.2%? That better be the end of bitter bitches claiming Park Shin Hye is only successful bc of her Hallyu costars or working w star writers lol. Kim Rae Won is great but the show was hers to carry and she did, even tho the story really ran thin for a while there.
(ngl it is killing me that this is the highest rated Big 3 drama this summer, ahead of the much more anticipated/hyped shit)

Date: 2016-08-27 07:07 am (UTC)But i really do like her and I'm cursing the person who made the comment on db that they'd like to see her w Kim Woobin in a drama - idek i wanted that, and now i do.

Date: 2016-08-28 02:04 am (UTC)i mean i saw how db people are offended with lsk playing a role inspired by jang mi ran but if anything i feel like insisting that only people with stature of jang mi ran can be weighlifters is stereotypical in itself, and weightlifting has several weight classes for athletes. i'm just glad they're having her gain weight instead of going the fat suit route - that would have been downright insulting.
anyways, there was no way they would've been able to cast an actual actress who already has the weightlifter body and also has the acting career (i saw db people pushing for ra miran and i'm like um main character is a 20 year old college student) so whatever, lsk is a fine choice for me as long as she's able to gain some muscle in the next two months, although i do scoff at yg being obvious with them pushing lsk and njh both as leads in one drama.
i'm getting generally tired of db, every drama that pops up people are pushing ji soo for lead and he's been absolutely terrible in everything i've seen sans angry mom (which was apparently only drama he managed to be decent) and from what i've seen in moon lovers yikes D:

Date: 2016-08-28 11:43 am (UTC)I'm not mad at people wanting Ji-soo for lead, people (not just on db) did the exact same thing with Woobin for almost three years before UF was announced and he's no worse than Woobin used to be at the same experience level. Moon Lovers hasn't even premiered yet so unless you've seen something I haven't, idk. I've yet to see comments wanting him for lead on that, no one is that delusional.

Date: 2016-08-28 11:57 am (UTC)ehh idk i'm definitely biased but woobin was much better with presence and tone even back then than ji soo right now is - but even then i would've been annoyed if people pushed woobin the way jisoo is right now.
i've been following moon lovers and they've released their highlights/teasers/specials/posters and except for this one scene with lee joongi he has been so awkward, it's the way he says the lines that make it feel like it's more a sitcom for kids than an actual drama - i'm thinking it's partially the language barrier because general opinions from korean drama viewers have also been terrible (well at least among people who have heard of him) but ifans just absolutely adore him.
it's dramas like moonlight drawn by clouds and picnic and dramas meant for actors in 20s I've seen db push ji soo for leads, and what confused me the most was when they insisted ji soo should be the lead instead of park bo gum, claiming the age difference with yoojung and i'm like but he and pbg are both the same age??
i do think ji soo, despite the ifan opinions, is doing the right thing right now taking on small roles in a shit ton of dramas. i honestly think he's overrated but with experience he can definitely improve and i do enjoy actors with unconventional looks doing well.

Date: 2016-08-28 01:26 pm (UTC)As for Ji Soo.... eh. I'm a Woobin fan myself but I think they're about even on the acting skills front at this same point in their careers (about 3-4 dramas in). I remember people clamouring for him to get lead roles right from the end of School 2013 onwards, and even before that drama he def had a following - to the point where I (when I hadn't yet seen him in anything) wondered what the big deal about him was. I wouldn't be surprised if Ji Soo sucks at sageuk tho - the speech and technical stuff is hard to get down. Thankfully his agency has the right strategy for him in taking smaller roles and lots of them - I've seen more than one person on db with that view, they're far from the mindless Ji-soo fanclub you make them sound like. (or maybe I'm just used to the waves of batshit Lee Min Ho fans who periodically invade drama sites, everyone else's fans seem like fluffy well-behaved bunnies in comparison - I mean, at least the Ji Soo/Woobin/Lee Jongsuk/whoever fans don't go around saying shit like their star is the biggest star in the world outside of Hollywood and trashing other actors, I swear the LMH fans are the worst and borderline racist too, with the way they like to dismiss stars from other non-Hollywood industries)
As for the Park Bo Gum/Ji Soo thing, I wonder where it came from because PBG is p much a universal darling. The only time I've seen anyone question Bogum's casting on the age gap grounds was bc some Taecyeon fans wanted to justify Kim So Hyun being cast with Taecyeon by saying him/Yoojung were also equally wrong despite their age gap being p much half the other, and people p much tore them a new one for that (which I can't hate, it squicks the hell out of me that KSH is so young and they're still going full skinship on it when they didn't let it happen with more age-appropriate costars).
edit: that turned very long, sorry!

Date: 2016-08-28 06:53 pm (UTC)i think we can all agree that lmh fans can be bat shit insane - although their k fandom has subdued in craziness quite a bit.
i'm not watching tacyeon's drama right now, i thought that the kiss scenes were pretty lighter than people expected? i don't like it either that their age difference is so big but sidus is really determined to push kyj and ksh for lead roles right now and they're not the first actresses who had romantic lead roles in their high school age and kissed actors who were much older... :( like i get it, a lot of top stars who started out very young were playing leads right around ksh/kyj's age and aside from high school dramas (that have lower bar for leads) and non-romance genres (that most of the time needs older actresses in 30s), there aren't a lot of option of kyj and ksh. i do wish the male leads matched their age a bit more but i guess from the broadcasting companies' perspectives they're rather risk a portion of viewers angry and creeped out than to use a nugu :/
the pool for young male actors are terrible, only decent ones seem to be ones in the '93 group plus jingoo. and well, jingoo is like one of the best actors out there already.

Date: 2016-08-29 04:02 am (UTC)I thought the pool for young actors is actually pretty decent-sized atm, obv no one is perfect and the '93 lot are probably the best, but there's still a bunch of late-80s/early 90s-born actors who have a decent degree of acting ability and some name recognition (LJS, KWB, Seo In Gook, Kim Soo Hyun, Kang Haneul, Ji Chang Wook... plus all the hallyu bait '87ers who I'm really not into personally but they're still big names).

Date: 2016-08-30 04:42 am (UTC)Tho ime male leads don't start breaking out till their early twenties, the 93 lot got it in the last year or so and hopefully we'll see 97-98ers make it in a couple of years.
