TWICE, just 10 months after debut, has matched Wonder Girls’ all-time girl group record for longest run of a song in Melon’s weekly top 10 — 17 weeks.
TWICE hit week 17 with “Cheer Up” in the third week of August, surpassing EXID’s “Up & Down” (with a 13-week run in the top 10), Girls’ Generation’s “Gee” (14 weeks), Wonder Girls’ “So Hot” (14 weeks), and Wonder Girls’ “Nobody” (16 weeks).
“Cheer Up” is now right up there with Wonder Girls’ “Tell Me,” which stayed in the top 10 for 17 weeks back when it was released in 2007. Even amid a slew of releases from groups like EXO, I.O.I, BLACKPINK, and even “Show Me the Money,” “Cheer Up” showed immense staying power. The lowest point for “Cheer Up” during its 17-week run was mid-July, when it dropped to no. 8.
Meanwhile, “Cheer Up” very well may be the most-streamed song on Gaon for 2016. As of the second week of August, the song has accumulated over 74.6 million streams, and is being played over 3 million times a week on the site.

Date: 2016-08-22 03:31 pm (UTC)hahaha I'm not sure if you are asking seriously or not because is in the post, but the list only counts how many weeks a song has been charting on the top 10 of Melon. Except for some hours when new songs get released or when boy groups fandoms make massive streamings at night (when everyone is sleeping), the song has been staying there since release.
It doesn't imply much else that a lot of streamings = popularity. However, talking about this same year GFriend's Rough has been charting amazingly well, has longevity and is popular but it wasn't as long in the top 10 of Melon to be on the list, but it doesn't mean it wasn't a hit.

Date: 2016-08-22 03:57 pm (UTC)I have a hard time really grasping how all the charts work with each other in tandem with varied performance shows & wins but this description helped a bit, thanks :3

Date: 2016-08-22 04:24 pm (UTC)The thing is that for wins on music shows it can depend on a lot of things (sns, physical sales, digital streaming, MV views...), so groups without much popularity can have wins if they have a strong fandom, and groups that could be more known can have it harder if the fandom is not active. Wonder Girls with "I Feel You" is an example of a song that didn't do that bad as people think but because there wasn't wins it kind of gives that impression, but then nugu groups can win if they get enough sns votes, and points from physical sales (in the case of boy groups they usually have good physical sales even if they don't chart well digitally). So then we get groups winning shows that probably if you ask people on the street who they are no one knows them, and other groups that everyone is listening to their song not getting wins because there is not a fandom strong enough to push the other aspects like sns, sales, etc.
Melon is usually the better indicator of what the general public is listening because is the streaming website more used in Korea.
You weren't probably asking for such a long explanation but w/e XD
