Oh god, I've seen enough of those kinds of comments on Twitter to last me a lifetime. It's not Blackpink's fault their fans are voting, buying, and streaming their music. It's also not their fault your win-less faves simply cannot capture the public/fans in a way that makes them want to devote their time to helping them win.

TBH, people shouldn't be anywhere near as surprised nor as bitter as they have been about this. YG's songs do well, consistently so. It's what they are known for and their success among the public is what allows them to promote their artists far less than their competitors. There are two kinds of people that wanted this group to flop, haters and scorned YG stans. Guess what? YG isn't gonna change. They aren't gonna change because they simply don't need to. When they actually need to, they will.

And let's all stop pretending like people aren't just complaining about YG's promo style because they don't get to see their faves as much.

Also: This isn't to say that YG artists are immune to flopping, just that it's ridiculous to think that they would flop for not doing stuff that they haven't been doing for years.

It's not really beneficial for most YG artists in the long run though as lots of 2NE1 fans left during each hiatus they had between their releases, which led to deteriorating physical album sales and landing less CFs. Also Winner would be a lot more famous by now if they were promoted well without that long hiatus after the first album. Also both Lee Hi and Akdong Musician lost bunch of fans due to their hiatuses which hurt their physical album sales and even their digital sales (though obviously they still sell well on that front when compared to many other artists).

See, there's a big flaw in this line of thought. It's that you are disregarding how well YG and their artists already do. It doesn't matter if they could do "better" when the are already doing great. It's like going up to an A student and telling them that they could be an A+ student if they did this, that, and the other. They are an A student. Surely they know that they could do "Better". They don't care. They specifically only make the effort to maintain their current spot.

Now do I wish that YG was more timely and just generally better scheduled? Of course I do. But I know that might not happen. The reason being that YG has built itself around the model of limiting their exposer to create a certain image and the image works for them. I'm sure they will change it when they don't get their desired results but people need to wait until after that happens. In the meantime, it makes no sense to go into every other YG post just to complain about how they "could do better", when everyone under the label still succeeds.

I'm ticked and bitter at myself because i hate yg as a person and i want him to flop but i listened to whistle yesterday and i like the song a bit too much and i want a rose/lisa subunit now (even though they debuted like less than a week ago)

i still don't like boombayah because that war cry makes me too uncomfortable to enjoy it

I searched for the english translations for the lyrics to both songs the other day, and that was... a mistake.. lol
I guess some kpop songs are best appreciated incomprehensible.

i think when you only understand the english lyrics, it lets you assume the korea lyrics are a lot better, which holds up until you actually see the lyrics translated

haha! I also think a lot of the english translation for many kpop songs are very crude and only translates the literal meaning of each sentence and doesn't quite transfer how eloquent some lyrics can sound in korean or the subtle double meanings they have. i can't think of many examples right now but i was like aha! when i watched the whistle mv their choreo for the chorus line "hwiparam uh hwi param param param" because the way they sing last three words is the onomatopoeia for motocycle sirens in korean haha

but yeah i feel like in any country pop song lyrics in general are gonna be terrible - i recommend yoon jong shin or lee juck songs if you want to look up lyrics, they're quite amazing.

yeah i think most people translating kpop songs are generally learning korean so anything too complex or clever is going to get missed, but tbh that's also true of like official anime subtitles so idk. its tough

i watched their lives on inki and i was... not impressed. they looked great and sounded ok, but their stage presence wasn't big enough to fill the big mold of "monster rookie" that has been given to them. i don't really know how to express it, but their songs don't really make for good lives? whistle more so than boombayah, but still. i really like lisa, and jennie to a lesser extent, so i'll be on the look out for their future releases, but i'm just not convinced that they're "slaying" as much as everyone else seems to be.
