She just seems genuinely lovely; kind to everyone (but appropriately calls out those who aren't kind to others), humble, grateful to be doing what she loves. I hope she remains successful after f(x) eventually disband. I could see her potentially having some success in the US even though it's a notoriously difficult market for entertainers of Asian ethnicity to break into. Ideally she'd have her own talk show like Ellen and make people's dreams come true and then perform a song at the end of every show :p

I feel so sorry for her when people insult her or make constant jokes about how unfeminine she is. She must be strong to deal with it - little comments and jokes at her expense went on all the time on variety shows and whatnot when she was new to Korea and to the Korean language and was still very young. She always seemed to take it in her stride though.

It kind of surprised me how articulate and fluent she is - there was no hesitation, no saying the wrong word, and she threw words like 'fathom' and 'euphoric' in there with ease. It seems that other idols who speak English as a first language but then spend years in Korea lose their fluency and confidence a bit and sound quite stilted when speaking English, usually opting to use quite simple English as well (not an insult at all, language attrition is a well-documented phenomenon). I wonder why that's not the case with Amber? Does she visit the States a lot or call her family back home often or something?

re: your last comment about her english: if you watch her ranting monkey videos, she has a lot of english-speaking friends living in korea (idols and non-idols) so i guess she speaks english a lot!

this was so insightful! i really love how aware she seems to be of the 'bubble' kpop stars can live in and that she was so set on trying to step out.

also, like others have mentioned, it's sad to hear that she gets harassed in public bathrooms :( i think one of the things sm does right with their artists is to let them keep their personal style, which is what drew me to amber/f(x) in the first place (and how they dragged me into kpop - thanks f(x))

I love Amber attitude towards life. It makes me upset that they harass her in the bathroom just because she is dressed comfortably and has short hair. I actually like the way she dresses and wished I had some of her shirts :)
