Only one ep this week. If I didn't love the Olympics so much I'd be sad. I haven't been able to find a clear answer if this is airing next week.

How did homegirl resign from her job when Chul fired her three episodes ago? And he never rehired her, but took it upon herself to stay? Bye!

And the killer seems like he really wants the story to finish too. If Chul has nothing going for him then faceless man doesn't either.

If faceless pixel killer needs to be somebody, I nominate the guy from the Olympics who lost to Chul. He'd have to have some mad Korean skills tho. Or maybe it could be Chul's old man friend (his father's friend). Coulda killed the entire family so he'd get whatever money they have if there is no one next in line, and wasn't anticipating Chul not being there. And he's waiting to kill Chul now because he'd inherit all his money? Idk

I hope the marriage subplot doesn't bring down the drama. I feel like there would be better ways for Chul to get her outta prison and protect her without marriage.

I say this every week, but I hope Chul goes to live with her in the real world or both world converge, it for some reason doesn't sit right with me that Yeon-joo is putting a pause on her life. I was nervous during the scene with Mad Dog screaming in the hospital. I hope she doesn't get fired.

And again, Soo Bong is more of a second lead than the bodyguard and girl-formerly-known-as-assistant.

irl lol when the assistant started to disappear. I was like "that's what you get for being extra, aint no one asking for an resignation letter when HR is still calculating your severance pay"

I also wasnt here for YJ peacing out on the real world too. But I think she previously said she only misses 30 minutes at a time when she leaves, so she'll probably just be late for work all the time

i started watching this drama last week after i finished UF and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THIS IS THE BEST KDRAMA IVE EVER WATCHED IN MY LIFE!!!111!!!
im so addicted to it i cant stop thinking about it even when im at work i swear. i was SO MAD when they cancelled it this week bc of the olympics!!!
i have so many feelings about this drama, like
- their chemistry is SO SO SO SO SO SO GOOD! even bts you always see these two together, laughing and doing stuff (meanwhile suzy and woobin just sit next to each other doing their own things). i ship these two eventho i know that jong suk is dating park shin hye
- i bet that chun's alter ego is the secret killer
- the bodyguard is only 21 IRL??? he looks so old
- can they extend this drama? 16 episodes are not enough i need moar!!!!!

Still loving this drama. I rewatch scenes so I can catch all the important details, like Kangchul's booty in the checkered suit and all references to the #4. I got so caught up in the romance that the voice of the killer shocked and scared the crap out of me. I don't think any of the recurring characters is the killer, they are all just becoming more sentient and aware something is strange about their world. I hope the secretary gets a new role so she doesn't disappear. Soobong is so funny, I wish he could visit the manhwa too.
The first jail kiss must have been really awkward to film, Jongsuk is so tall he had to spread his legs to be low enough to bend over and kiss her. When he picked her up and put her on the table I was done for.

Omg I legit GASPED during the elevator scene when hearing the killers voice and the words popped up. Also I feel like time in the real world is continuing to move forward at a normal pace (rather than how it was slower in the past) and that makes me so nervous for her.

I was watching in the dark and the voice definitely scared me. Yes they made a point of showing that time was passing when her mother noticed she didn't come home. I wonder how she will explain her absence.

@ OP, episode is airing next week, so I'd think they'd have to do a special episode to account for the fact that there won't be a Thursday episode in the future, and that will leave a hole in MBC's schedule.

The one moment I felt a connection with the (incredibly dull) lead is when he woke up with the knowledge that his life was someone's puppet play and the answer he's been chasing for ten years doesn't exist. That same sequence gave me such a distaste for Yeon Joo. She created Kang Chul in the image of her ideal type and she may very well love that idea, but she's not considering him as the fully actualized person he - seems to - be. The fact that if he's indeed real, he might have hopes and dreams outside of her. She's just going "now kiss" with drawings of herself and Kang Chul and I have trouble swooning over that romance

possible spoiler??

I don't know if you've watched all the episodes yet, but KC definitely called her out on that and it seemed to have gotten through to her.

I did see that, but to me, there's a dissonance between the Kang Chul who called her out - the Kang Chul who sobbed over the reality of his existence and the Kang Chul who decided to play along. I feel like I'll always question how much of it is his own will -which might well be the drama writer's intention. I hope it's done well, but it'll be hard to legitimize the romance in my eyes

Also, her tears were more like "why isn't this going the way I wanted it to. Why is he being mean to me". It was still all about her feelings, wasn't it?

Ahh, I get what you mean. I guess we all already figure out that he and the killer move freely now. I mean, he actually defy the odds and save himself many times when the dad wants to kill him again and again. Yeon Joo just figures out that Kang Cheol is actually her creation and just use that advantage to move the story along (which she shouldn't have considering he chose his own ending). I guess we all can assume that he just move according to his free will now. Unless, of course, they're both characters from a manga and it will only revealed in the last episode. :P

About the romance, Yeon Joo is like an ordinary fangirl enjoying the moment. But she reached a 'new fangirl level' as she can actually talk and touch him (unlike the rest of us lol). I kind of understand her struggles. He was real yet she knows he's not at the same time. I bet this gonna end up like Rooftop Prince since there's no way both of them gonna end up together.

We can just assume he moves by his own will, but we could also wonder why the drama made such a point of the fact that Kang Chul doesn't even think Yeon Joo is pretty. He doesn't get what's so beautiful about her, but literally goes "If everyone (the writer still controls) says she's pretty, then I guess she must be pretty. Living in a world controlled by the writer does have an effect on him even though he's the only one who seems to have free will.

Another thing is my take on the creator theory that says that because Yeon Joo is the original creator, the story can't move against her will. She didn't want Kang Chul to die, so he couldn't. My take on this is that while her dad created the world he lives in Yeon Joo is Kang Chul's creator. It's essentially the same, but it means that she has more power over him specifically than her dad does.

From: [identity profile] tsuyoi-hikari.livejournal.com
But I thought the 'pretty' thing already being cleared in the 3rd episode? Her dad is the one who made Kang Cheol to say that Yeon Joo is not pretty but once Yeon Joo is inside the manga world, Kang Cheol always do things with his own free will since the story move itself (aka the manga just pop-up on the net on its own). Plus, he kinda flustered when he sees Yeon Joo face to face and realized that she was in fact pretty. That is my take on that scene.

I agree in your take on the creator theory that Yeon Joo has more power than her dad as she was the original creator. And I understand what you mean by living in the controlled world which Kang Cheol admitted himself. Many things he cant explain like the murder of his family, why he's at school instead of watching WC at home with his family, why he went to the rooftop alone after he got a call and etc.. He understand why he cant explain all of that since he is living in a controlled world. But again, like you mentioned, his free will always triumph all the aspects of the controlled world -- he and the killer as both of them are the main characters of the manga. So I guess we can assume that despite living in the controlled world, he does have free will on his feelings, or he can do whatever he wants to do. Unless, Yeon Joo's dad pick up the stylus again and draw him in another unexplained situation to kill him. But from now, the story just move itself with both Yeon Joo, Kang Cheol and killer in the manga world. I think that is what the drama writer trying to imply in these 7 episodes that despite being just manga characters, these characters took matters in their own hand and take control of their own destiny (which is the main point of the drama).

I was questioning the writer's true intention, too. The romance in this whole episode was too much of a fangirl's dream. Oppa recognizes her. Oppa marries her. Oppa treats her so well.

While I haven't always enjoyed how information dumps are conveyed and overdramaticness of some scenes, what I have enjoyed is the meta commentary. I can't tell if this episode was a setup for reflecting on how much viewers interject themselves into the stories or was not-the-best-way of delivering romance between the main characters. The fact that two worlds appear to be dissolving/merging gives me some hope that there's a larger point being driven here but that could also be me interjecting my own wishes into the story.

From: [identity profile] jaelissi.livejournal.com
I haven't really thought of it as meta commentary on viewer behavior. If it is, then there may be some hope the caveats concerning the romance will be handeled in a somewhat satisfying manner. YJ actually gets to go into the manhwa and live out her fantasy, but what happens then? Is it all she wanted? If he's not real, can that be a fulfilling relationship for her? If he is, then is it right for her to uproot his life for her satisfaction? (can you tell I'm still not feeling the romance?)

The blurred line between fantasy and reality whether it be in the real world ir the manhwa is one of the most interesting things about this drama. How does KC fall into the real life Han river and get fished out of the manhwa Han river? Why are YJ and her dad immortal in the manhwa world and why does that apparently go away?

I love this week's episode. Its so rare for me and my sis to fail out loud but the romance scene is just sooo awesome. I love the marriage plot -- in fact I love everything that involve marriage in dramas so I'm really glad the writer put it there. Its very refreshing.

I really like the writer. The scene of Kang Cheol and Yeon Joo at the prison is very well done. Kang Cheol totally asking Yeon Joo all the right questions like why she bring him back from the dead? She should just leave him like that since its not her right to interfere with his life. Was it a game? Something she can play around to escape from the real world? He's really asking all the right questions. Jongsuk is amazing as a dramatic actor -- it makes me want to see him in melodrama for his next project.

I still stand by my theory that the killer is just someone without a reason that Yeon Joo's dad create. Just like Kang Cheol, he also took control of his life and wanted to see how the story ends too. The fact that he is without face and history all make him more powerful as a character.

omg this ep was cheesy as hell
But I'm not even mad bc I was cheesin' mad hard watching it
But just when u think it's gone completely soft, the suspense comes right back
and kicks u in the face
When he got that phone call, I was clutching ma pearls omg
It's so good!

I know some people were saying the plot was moving too fast [the reveal happened in like the 4th ep iirc] but the writers have proved themselves capable vis a vis exciting and full storytelling & they've earned my trust [bc lbr this drama couldve been ohj going back and forth between worlds for 11 eps and then a reveal and resolution in the remaining 4 eps]
Hope they don't let me down !!

I still don't know where this is going and I love it. I'm curious to see what happens when supporting characters find out the truth.

I'm really nervous that it seems like time in the real world has continued to move forward in real time but Yeon Joo doesn't care.

I KNEW IT. Lol. Now I only wonder how KC's character started with YJ and end up being continued by Papa Oh.

I think KC finding out about his world was difficult for him, but I think it's far more difficult to go back and having to ACCEPT that everything around you, all you've been through, the people you care about, none of it is real.

Not sure if it's just me, but I'm beginning to feel a bit agitated at how she's giving up everything for a fictional character she created. Like, you just about to stop being a doctor and ditch your family just to play house with somebody who isn't real? AND popped a cap in your daddy's ass. Girl hwat? ( I type this as I'm over here freaking out and giggling at him throwing her on the bed like that, lmao)

I'm super convinced that Pixel Man is another version of KC, otherwise who else could it be?

YJ has comment multiple times that she's a mediocre (at best) doctor. She don't give a fuck. Plus after seeing her younger self being into drawing I think her real dream/purpose was to also be an author. But she probably saw her dad's crap career and her parents fail marriage and decided to do something more "practical" to make her mom happy.

Last episode was awkward as f.
I cringed through it the whole time (tho the kisses made me smile lol)

I feel like their dynamics didn't match the pace of the sudden love story. It was just......it felt rushed idk.

Compared to everything before this episode was a huge letdown. I hyped the drama like crazy -it was literally the best to me, but after episode 7 I'm a bit lost :'D

I hope the story recovers

i just love this drama.

super glad they addressed the free will issue up front when kang chul just laid into yeon joo about writing/drawing him back to life. ngl i was a little taken aback when they transitioned from that conversation into the romance so quickly. but i feel a lot better about it now. i guess i realize i do buy that he’s attracted to her, and i think he gets some satisfaction in knowing that he has some degree of control over her (his creator) too. like he’s able to bring her into his world when he needs to be saved or when he thinks of her. also when she’s in the webtoon world, she can’t exercise authority over the narrative anymore cuz she literally becomes a character. i like that we’re getting closer to a balance of power/control in the relationship (as creator/creation).

so only one new ep this upcoming week? :(

I was having some doubts after episode 6, but I got sucked right in again after this episode.

Not sure why they postpone drama episodes during the Olympics when all the Olympics they play is the same gold winning performance all day (I'm just bitter about them not playing things like Gymnastics).
