Korean and international fans have been wondering for more than a month now: why did 4minute break up? A new report shines NEW light on the mystery of this decade

The report is summarized as follows:

  • Cube is currently going through an internal power struggle between president of the company, Hong Seung Sung and the current CEO, Park Chung Min.

  • Hong stepped down as CEO around 2012/2013 because of ALS but he still oversees many operations of the company

  • Cube has been underperforming severely and their operating income last year ($8 billion won) was about half of the year before

  • Hyunseung leaving B2ST, CLC flopping, and dumping money into Pentagon all made Cube lose money

  • Major decisions are made as a group by the Board of Directors, which both Hong and Park are a part of,

  • The board had made a decision to renew 4minute's contracts this year

  • However, Hong singlehandedly delayed the renewals and pushed for the disbandment

  • As a result of this decision, the power struggle came at a head, and shareholders were looking for someone to blame for 4minute's break up

  • Park used 4minute's disbandment as a reason to reconstruct the company and fire many employees who were loyal to Hong, thus consolidating his power

  • IHQ (the current major shareholder of Cube) tends to sit on the sidelines and has not interfered with this power feud and presumptively, 4minutegate

tldr; 4minute was apparently broken up by their president Hong Seung Sung against the wishes of his board of directors.

This is scandalous because Cube fans have always put @hongcube on a pedestal, viewing him as some type of father figure and saying that he puts his "kids" first always. And now he allegedly singlehandedly broke up his founding group.

Is @hongcube a bigger snake or is Taylor Swift? Discuss below

wait, why would the pres of cube mess up his own company? I could understand if it was the ceo who had delayed the renewals since he wound up winning in the end by getting rid of employees who didn't like him.

"the mystery of this decade" okay... I/we kinda knew that this was about money.

But I didn't knew it was also about a dick measuring contest between those two fuckers...

Poor girls. And fuck those old men who only care about their pathetic dick power struggle and money, over pretty much everything and everyone.

Whoa what a mess. I'm still so sad that 4minute disbanded

It almost sounds like Hong was sabotaging the company like maybe he saw that they were going to completely kick him out and he was a petty asshole, cuz why else would he try to disband a group that made Cube money and was gaining popularity in China.

Why would he destroy his own company? I mean, is he that petty to destroy the company's moneymakers because he knew he was being forced out? Guess he is. Damn.

Lol at that Snake Swift mention.

Umm not buying this tbh, it could perfectly have been the other way around and now the CEO is trying to make Hong look bad.

I feel the same tbh lmao I mean it's not impossible but it feels less likely than the other way around - someone destroying a group out of pure pettiness vs someone destroying a group to scapegoat & hoist Hong out completely. Either way, Cube is a dying ember at this point. It seems like no one has any business sense.

This is definitely true as well.

In either case, I can't wrap my head around why they would get rid of what makes the company money. Anyone can see that doing so was counterproductive because they're a hop, skip, and jump away from bankruptcy.

Yeah, I think the other way round makes sense as well, especially with the new CEO firing half the staff. Plus it doesn't seem like a coincidence that the company started flopping when the old CEO left, yet for him to be sabotaging his own company.

but i thought it was the other way around?

also if this was against their wishes then they would still be following each other

mte. i still think there was some type of discord within the group. not that i want to give into the ~~catifght~~ narrative but more like what people have speculated before; 4/5 members expecting they'd go down together but hyuna still wanting to save her own career.

From: [identity profile] siaht.livejournal.com
Someone at some point did favor Hyuna's solo career over 4Minute, which caused the discord, but I doubt it was Hong.

I kind of believe this as getting rid of 4minute was absolutely awful business decision considering how they had started gain fame especially in China. So it seemed like someone's personal agenda to not to renew the contracts.

Alright, talking bad about K-pop groups is all fair game, but attacking their stans/fans... that's going overboard.

I can't even talk about Pentagon. I can't believe that they shot themselves in the foot with 4minute like this after CLC not hitting big and about to debut another group.

Ok...But assuming this is true, how is disbanding their best or second best group a good business plan? Literally they win nothing and lose a lot and they end up fucking with a lot of people's jobs.

...Not that they would care a lot about this last point, but what kind of idiot businessman does somehting that will cost him?

hong has done nothing for 4minute but debut them. compare their promo to beast's promo since 2009. paltry. he used the group to prop up hyuna and threw them aside when the time was right.

all for pursuing your personal goals and interests but hyuna is a snake for sticking with the company who treated her group members like trash in the end
