love him/hate him? idk but i want him back soon!

so conflicted between loving their chemistry and hating the fact that he was her teacher.....it's better now that they're both adults but we'll see.

obviously i missed a lot of points so feel free to discuss outside of this scope! the drama's been getting good ratings, and im personally enjoying it a lot. the ost's good too

I've tried to see this drama, but I just can't deal with the teacher-student creepy ass relationship.
Like, it's not cute and much less ok, that grooming (yes, it's there even if people see that as an "innnnnnnocent" crush or "but, they didn't do nothing! yet"), that grooming is a big NOOOOO for me.
I know that in real life they are adults (and that the "proper romance" start later?) but, idk, with all the shit that's going on, I don't like these kind of relationships.

Well it's not like it's not problematized. The guy has to quit as a teacher because of it even though it was just a rumour. She's supposed to be 18 so it's not like it's all that strange if a young teacher looks at her that way, as long as he doesn't act on it.

Anyway it's fairly quickly over and I find much, much more creepy actions by guys in most k-dramas so it didn't really register here.

She's supposed to be 18

17.99999 doesn't seem too different from 18.0. Also, that doesn't change the fact that she's a HS student. Even in college student-teacher relationships or something like that are NOT OKAY.

so it's not like it's all that strange if a young teacher looks at her that way, as long as he doesn't act on it.

Except for the part that he IS acting upon those feelings/approaching his hs student knowing his feelings for her....

Yay finally a discussion post! I agree about being more than a little angry that it's a teacher-student relationship.
Kim Rae Won is such a good actor I've seen a couple of things he's been in but I never feel like I'm seeing him playing different roles, I feel like I'm seeing different people (Not gonna mention Shin hye...).
Kyung Sang is my favorite since Six Flying Dragons but I don't know if I feel that he can pull off his "angry/aloof" character in this drama. Or maybe his Moohyul acting was just so good that I can't enjoy him as any other character..

I think Kim Raewon best role to date is in Sunflower. I still watch that movie from time to time since it was soooo good. He did act in embarrassing dramas like Love Story in Harvard or Which Star Are You From but his other filmography has been amazing so far. Me and my sister wont admit that we like him but we always watch his works and love it! :D

lol I struggle with this. Because sometimes I think her acting is great, but she tends to really lack chemistry with her leads (or the acting is stiff/unnatural), but she is like a major it-girl.

Yeah, I thought her acting was pretty good in Pinocchio, for example. But her chemistry with Lee Jong Suk was non-existent for me. And don't even get me started on Heirs.

I want her to do a show that doesn't have a romance at all, tbh.

Heirs was her big blip tho!!! Maybe because that genre is SO. TIRED. I loved her in Pinocchio too, but the drama I loved her the most in was Flower Boy Next Door (she made me cry lol). My only frustration with her has been her wall kisses cuz she always feels like such a brick wall when those happen. PSH is always so hit and miss with the dramas tho. Heartstrings was so meh lol

So far sans the creepy relationship in Doctors and her abrupt change from angry rebellious child to sweet smart I-hate-violence student, I kinda enjoy her for this one lol

I wish they just pushed this pairing and have that teacher-mentor relationship with Kim Rae Won??? He is so FINE I really wanna see him in a lead actor role one drama cuz I can't stop staring at his face lol

And it'd be weird if he were only in for the flashback eps cuz if I remember the credits correctly he's supposed to be one of the main characters in the drama. Bless him 8')

i'm watching this drama for lee sung kyung (well.. originally it was for rae won but oh well) but i'm really having trouble to pull through each episode because of that student-teacher mess (esp that bio class rendezvous ... jfc). ok, i know all recent dramas have this standard trend with very obvious age gaps and for my own sanity i try to avoid them but yk at least psh isn't a minor. but honestly i didn't expect this angle with backstory AT ALL. and then i see endless comments on dramabeans how we all gotta give ~puppy rae won~ a badge of honour for not acting upon his feelings because having feelings as a teacher for his student is totally normal.
this drama is srsly written as your standard predator behaviour and grooming. this must be the very first time when my hand was trying to reach phone to call cops on fictional character.
that rant aside i still issues with writing in this drama. school days and building friendships with other girls was wonderful and i was so excited to see psh & lsk's blooming friendship and helping each other (that would ofc fall apart but i wanted to get at least some of that) but instead i got smacked in the face with another standard set of tropes with second lead being demonized and acting like some kind of villain.
not sure if i'll continue but the only reason for watching this drama may be only following its full makjang makeover because i already see lsk's character learning about her father's horrible acts, helping him to hide that and backstabbing psh in literal sense to become true satan incarnate.

Have you tried to watch Japanese medical dramas like Iryu, Team Medical Dragon? That one is way way way way better than any Korean medical dramas could ever be. First, the medical procedures are believable (the writer actually consult with real doctors on the medical procedures) and they actually focus on medical plot instead of romance. :D Iryu have like 4 seasons and all of them are soooo good esp the first and the last seasons.

Do watch it! Its one of the best medical dramas out there. So many interesting characters in just one drama. And you can see the characters' developments in all the 4 seasons. Then I assure you that you will find Korean medical dramas to be so paled in comparison like the heaven and earth lol

I'm soooo happy you enjoyed it. Can I know where you download it? Old japanese dramas are harder to get nowadays so I was wondering where you get yours. I really enjoy the 1st and 4th seasons of the series the most. Arase was given such an interesting plot in the 4th season. :D

BTW, if you are interested with Japanese dramas and interested to try other genre, do ask right away since Japanese dramas are usually more interesting in term of storyline rather than Kdramas.

I might be in the minority but I do find the teacher-student relationship to be not so awkward, probs because I'm assuming that Kim Rae-Won is just a few years older than PSH, though he could be a LOOOOT older.

Anyways PSH is winning in this role, I never really gotten why she was stuck in mediocre candy roles all her life when she can definitely do a lot better. I never liked her before Pinocchio so I'm somewhat glad that she proved me wrong by being all badass in this role! I kinda bawled with her in Episode 3 /sniff.

well if he was a doctor before, then he's really really old. doesn't medical school take at least 12 years (max)? so...

if PSH was 18 y/o he'd be at 30+y/o

iirc he dropped out of medical school early, based on what in joo was saying in the first 2 episodes. so it's possible he could have been like 25-27. not that it makes it any less creepy, lol.

really omg????? my fmed student friend says it takes at least 12 years to 15, to be a proper doctor (idk the correct term)

From: [identity profile] tsuyoi-hikari.livejournal.com
Ahh that one is to be a specialist (heart/ENT/skin/anest/etc). But to be a normal doctor, people only need around 6 years. To be a specialist, they need at least around 10 years..

I am here for this drama and like someone said above I found the student teacher thing not awkward 1. Because neither of them act on their feelings until 8+ years later 2. It was mutual and 3. It can hardly be clclassifd as a relationship towards the beginning, I honestly think he thought he was doing his job. If you watch it you'll see she isn't the only one getting special treatment he literally jumps through all kinds of hoops for all of his students especially the troubled ones , likely because of his own troubled past.

However everyone ranting about the student teacher thing and how it's creepy is very one sided. Lee sung Kyung character had feelings for her teacher admitted it to him and even had it escalade to her doing problematic behavior to get him fired for not reciprocating her feelings. That's just as problematic and if you are going to call out the romanticizing of a student teacher relationship, her characters inappropiate obsessions and sexualization of her teacher needs to be called out too.

On a second note I wasn't originally gonna watch it because I can't stand psh carp like acting. Everything she does reminds me of the same generic cry baby character she's done before but this role has a bit of complexity and depth to it. So I'm here for it.😁😁

I really like this drama so far.

THE PUPPY! I am hoping in Ep 5 she still has that puppy, but it is really old now since it is 13 years later.

I was shocked at the sad thing in Ep 3 (trying not to spoil)

I think Lee Sung-Kyung is not a good actress at all, I hate her scenes.

Moon Ji-In is adorable!!!!

I didn't even pick up anything about him grooming her, I guess because his age is so vague and given how young the rest of the doctors are when we come back 13 years later, he could have been about 20 in the first scene, so... IDK.

I do want to cut both PSH and LSK's hair because their hair is horrible. It was okay when they were teens, but to have the exact same scraggly uneven long hair in their 30s? No.

I dont care how much people defend the love of the leads.

the thing is why they use this so much!!! younger lead and older lead!! why!! and when she is almost legal o barely. I call this lack of creativity, why dont the men lead leave before he form s crush in PSH? Lee Sung-Kyung could hate her cus about anything else just not the love of the teacher who tell her brat cus she can see the teacher likes PSH . so many things could be changed and have the same story with out been creeps
