Yoon Shi Yoon
recently gave a special appearance at an all-girls university and talked about the pressure he feels from his biggest hit.

At an earlier press conference for “Mirror of the Witch,” Yoon Shi Yoon said, “Kim Tak Goo was like an amazing hat that I got to wear. When I took the hat off, it left such a deep impression that sometimes people can’t see me without the hat.”

When he joined “2 Days & 1 Night,” he promised to get ratings over 50 percent. “Baker King Kim Tak Goo” got 50 percent ratings at the height of its run.

“My debut project got over 30 percent ratings and Kim Tak Goo got over 50 percent. Rather than liking it, I was terrified. I wanted to hide rather than try and live up to the pressure. But then my colleagues Joo Won, Shin Se Kyung, Park Shin Hye, and Daniel Choi kept trying new things and got over that fear and walked their own paths. When I went to the army, I wanted to cry out of regret that I didn’t follow their example.”

I loved Baker King.. It was awhile ago, but.. I remember it really shocked me how people shouted at each other shamelessly even though they were lying...

And his analogy about it being like a hat made me laugh, I've never heard it quite put that way.. But I love hearing things like that, like.. oh yeah, of course they struggle with those sort of things to.. t.t

i remember watching baker king on tv, it was such a good drama and i've always wondered what happened to him. reading this is sad, but the way he described it is spot on. i think a lot of actors and artists suffer from this.

i honestly havent watched 1n2d since uhm taewoong left, maybe i should catch up

He's one of those stars who had a good run straight out the gate but considering the business he's in, he must of had the mindset of "This is too good to be true. I can't always live up to the standard I set. What will I do?". The drama he had right after BKTG flopped but it was starring Lee Jiah and she was controversial so everybody blamed it on her. Then he only did a japanese drama in 2012. In 2013, he did a chinese rehash on BKTG and a TVN drama(gotta love the flower boys series). Then he did a drama with Yoona and he's in one right now.

He's been in eleven dramas. Of those eleven, three are cameos. Of the remaining eight, six are Korean. Of those six, two are cable dramas that don't have stellar ratings(though they have good followings). The remaining four were public broadcast dramas. Of the four dramas, only two were a commercial success. Of those two, Yoon Shiyoon was only the lead in one. Baking King, Kim Takgoo.

He actually made a wrong career move. And I think he himself knows that. Joo Won in the other hand, despite having awful dramas like Civil Servant or Naeil Cantabile in his resume, made mostly good career decisions.

I guess he just terrified with BKTG's success and ended up choosing what he think is a safe projects but they flopped instead...

See, I actually don't think that he's really made a mistake. Despite having such a small acting catalog, I think that he has done a good enough job and proving that he can bring good acting to the table.

Personally, I feel that he is a lot luckier than other actors that end up with his filmography. In that, he has stayed relevant because he is recognized by skill as opposed to his record. Anybody with less talent and charm than him would be personally called a flop but because his acting is already well acknowledged and his image is clean, people are more willing to separate him from his dramas.

Surprised that many like BKTG. To me, the drama is full of makjang elements and I couldn;t really understand why people love it so much. I also mad with the fact that the writer made Takgoo a rascal for 7 years before he entered the bakery. :P

It was one of the first kdramas I watched and it's a miracle that I both finished it and enjoyed it. All the makjang elements are so frustrating to watch now that I don't know how I managed 30 eps of it back then.

Poor Shiyoon :(. I can see how the initial success could be overwhelming and hard to handle. Even now on 2D1N random people on the street will call him Takgu. In a way, it's kind of amazing that even so long after the series people still remember his character, but at the same time it's got to get kind of old to always have people associate you with that one thing.
