7 Girl Groups That Might Never Have Another Comeback (But We Hope Do)

The face of K-pop is changing rapidly as time goes on. With some of the oldest groups of this generation losing members, some fans may wonder if their favorite group will ever hold a comeback at all. Hopefully they do, but let’s take a look at some groups that may be nearing their unfortunate end.


2NE1



The prospect of a 2NE1 comeback is getting more and more dismal. After Park Bom’s drug scandal in the summer of 2014, the group hasn’t released a single album, partly due to the public’s perception of Park Bom and YG’s abnormally long time frames between comebacks. Minzy leaving the group earlier this year may have been the final nail in the coffin, especially since YG is planning to debut another girl group this summer. Plus, 2NE1’s contracts expire sometime in 2016. YG at one point mentioned 2NE1 making a comeback this summer, but we all know YG says a lot of things.

Secret



With TS Entertainment focusing on pushing solo Hyosung releases and the other group members having separate interests, a future Secret comeback seems unlikely. The group’s last comeback was nearly two years ago and there were talks of discord within the group as recent as one year ago.

Rainbow



On top of losing two members earlier this year, Rainbow’s most recent few comebacks have not been well-received by listeners, injecting doubt into prospects of their comeback. They only performed their latest release, “Whoo,” in music shows for about a month before ending promotions.

Miss A



After Jia left miss A in May earlier this year, the group was left with three members. According to previous reports by JYP, the rest of the contracts for miss A members expire in March 2017. Although Suzy is focusing on acting and Fei on an upcoming solo release, there’s still time for the trio to get together and have a comeback.

4Minute



This is pretty much a done deal already, but with 4Minute’s recent disbandment, the group is very unlikely to have a comeback. However, we may still get HyunA solo releases in the future.

After School



Although After School was on tour in Japan in 2015, the group hasn’t released an album in two years, which calls into doubt whether or not the group will have another comeback. Pledis Entertainment seems to be more focused on promoting their soon-to-debut girl group, Pledis Girlz.

9Muses



With six members remaining after two left earlier this year, 9Muses’ prospects for a future comeback look dim. They haven’t had much commercial success recently, but some reports state that the group is preparing for a comeback soon. The group debuted in 2010 and has had numerous members leave over the years.

Hopefully all the groups listed above will hold at least one more comeback sometime in the future.

To answer the article i think miss a, rainbow and namyu will get comebacks, the others are finished. 2ne1 /could/ have a comeback but after yg completely failing to manage the bom issue, his ridiculous gaps between comebacks and cl needing to be dedicated to her solo career, idt it'll happen

the sad part about these girl groups dying is that is wasn't necessarily waning public interest that killed them, it's more that their companies didn't fight for their longevity when things got rough. i'd bet majority of these girls would have fought to stay together longer as groups if their companies showed any interest/support.

I don't agree with the article author's assessment of Secret because they resigned with TS? Like all of them? Not even Hana left after being treated shittily by them? And Hyosung's been talking about how their summer 2016 comeback was delayed because of lack of good songs but would be happening probably after B.A.P. So I think there is still hope for them releasing bops, even if I doubt that Hana or Sunhwa will ever be friendly.

Just seeing them stand together at the Hera Seoul Fashion Week was awkward as fuck....

I haven't heard anything about Rainbow renewing their contract with DSP so I'm really scared, they have really good songs and DSP is crap and doesn't manage them well. It makes me sad because they seem really close with eachother and hope they can still be a group for longer :(

Also there were rumors about a Secret comeback later this year, although I don't even know why would they, they seem like they hate eachother lol Their music was one of my favorites (except poison I still can't get to like that)

i can't lie, i've been nervous about secret for awhile. like said above: i heard that they resigned as well but their relationship seems so strange. at least hana and sunhwa's does which is sad. :/ with rainbow, dsp has never done enough for them and i feel like they never will either. this is a repeat of what i've seen a thousand people say now but: they fucked up royally in not pushing jaekyung harder. i remember she was pushed a bit back around 2010 / early 2011 but they severely slacked after that point. even netz are constantly pointing out that she has virtually all of the qualities to be an "it" girl, and yet. (at least she's doing get it beauty now, but.)

i lost hope on after school, like, way over a year ago which is sad because they were one of the first female idol groups that i really latched on to. i feel the same way about miss a because they were my first female group, but i'd be shocked if we get a full group comeback anytime soon, if ever, lol. nine muses' are always coming back with something new so i'm not worried about them (if you don't take into account being worried about them company wise).

anyway, i second what some said above: a big chunk of the groups that i was very, very into when i first started following idols back in 2011 / 2012 are either disbanded, barely active or highly underappreciated. f(x), shinee, soshi, and t-ara are the only ones really holding on hard and, even then, f(x) is only active as a group once a year anymore and t-ara is only active in china, sigh.

DSP sucks in general. I adore Rainbow and their lack of impact is literally ONLY because of the company. But i mean this is the company that managed to fail Kara even when they had a huge fan base, soooo.

Also in response to the last bit, i totally understand. I was masdively into kpop from like 2009-2013 and came back recently to this mess. I mean im glad that Girls Day and EXID finally made it (i always loved exid) but almost all of the groups are gone. Even shinee, who were always my biggest love, only really promote overseas or as solo artists. But no matter what people say about SM, they know how to keep their groups relevant.

rainbow haven't lost any members and definitely not "earlier this year". who knows, they might even renew. i didn't think they'd have another comeback after black swan but they did.

after school are dead and will never have a comeback and i'm starting to believe neither will orange caramel. their fans need to stop whining and accept it, out of all the groups listed here their stans are by far the most annoying (and that's saying something cause 2ne1 are right there at the very top lmao). don't uee and nana hate each other anyway? the secret members too? why would you want a group to come back where the people involved can't stand each other?

Sadly they are all gone. I love some of them but its time to move on. Im glad we still have WG around (in their best momentum musically speaking), BEG and f(x) of the old generation. Its time to find someone new to stan guys! There are good (g) groups and music out there!

I will stubbornly hold onto the belief that Secret isn't dead yet and that what Hyosung said about preparation for a comeback is true. I feel so much rage about how poorly TS has managed Secret (and particularly Hana) and so much sadness about how separate the members have been for the past two years. Their social media posts are almost always with other people, doing other things, and I just want to like play their 3 Years 6 Months performance from their debut showcase at them and be like "LOOK AT HOW FAR YOU'VE COME!! REMEMBER WHERE YOU STARTED TOGETHER!!!"

Secret is my bias group, obviously, but I am generally really sad about all of these groups, because I love all of them, really. And there's so much more that they could do.

Eleven years is a really long time to be together, huh. I don't really blame them for getting a little tired of each other, or perhaps not as close as they once used to be, but I blame TS for the lack of professionalism or real management for just how bad things have gotten among them. I have no doubt that a lot of it was because of envy or personal greed over solo activities and who gets to do what, and the lack of successful group comebacks (because of their boring songs through 2012-2013). They were all really really teasing with each other during their early years, and I can see that sort of teasing being taken wrongly if you haven't seen your groupmate in a long time and have been hanging out with a different set of people, and that's really saddening.

Do they even live together anymore? And I'm not even sure if TS is even paying them now, because I remember when B.A.P filed their lawsuit, a lot of people were saying that Secret were also not seeing much money and were being bribed to stay in the company with gifts instead of actual cash?
