JYPE's System That Gives More Possibility On Creating Hit Tracks

Recently when we look at the real-time chart on Melon, we discover quite an interesting fact.

At this time of 5pm on the 20th, Songs of JYP Entertainment's artists like TWICE's 'CHEER UP' (#6), Baek Ayeon's 'So-so' (#10), Baek Yerin's 'Bye bye my blue'(#5), etc are all staying within the top 10. Considering that the #1~3 of the Melon chart are all the songs that were performed on the stage of 'Show Me The Money 5', we get to know that JYP is doing something that is never easy.

It is not strange to see that Baek Yerin's song is staying within the top ranks after being released not a while ago, but it is exceptional that TWICE's 'CHEER UP' is there as the song has been released for 2 months. Baek Ayeon's hit song that's been released for 5 weeks, 'So-so' is an addictive song with the verse 'No matter who I meet, so so~'.

But what's common among these 3 songs is that they're not composed by Park Jinyoung. It's also known that the title track that Wonder Girls will be releasing soon is not Park Jinyoung's song but a self-composed song from the members.

With result like this, it seems that the experimental music system that JYP Entertainment has been using since 2 years ago has got its position in some way. There were plenty of times when the music that's created by the representative producer's 'feel' becomes a hit in the past. However, as the singers are growing older and the preference of the public has grown diversified, this should not be something decided upon one's 'feel' anymore.

JYP system is a decision-making system of a committee made up of 16 people from both the JYP company itself and outside of the company who are experts in different areas in terms of music. They make decision through voting in terms of their preferences, the direction/nature, the predicted result, etc. of the track. After choosing the song, the work of modifying the song happens within this system too. In this system, representative producer Park Jinyoung holds one vote, while CEO Jang Wook holds one vote too.

Through this, if the average grade of the song cannot surpass a certain level, even if it's a song composed by Park Jinyoung himself, the song won't be shining its light (to the public). Given the company's owner system, it is incredible to see Park Jinyoung willing to accept such try.

The music colors of girl group TWICE, solo singer Baek Ayeon, Baek Yerin and Wonder Girls are completely different. But in the JYP system, through the A&R (Artist & Repertory) way of creating a certain kind of music that fits a certain artist differently, the possibility of the song being successful is increased.

Although it's certain that the prediction from the JYP music system is not the only factor that creates the success of the songs, it can be said to be a measure that increases the battling average in the terms of playing baseball. It's a work that raises the possibility of (releasing) hit songs.

And it doesn't seem that it's just coincidence that the music released become hit songs continuously with such JYP music system given now.

I don't think 'Fly' was that bad, but the MV was extremely dull. And 'Home Run' is not exactly a lead single but more like a follow up track so I'm not sure if they also used this rule to choose it. I always had the impression that they decided to go with 'Homerun' because it was composed by JB more than anything else.

I actually think BB is soooo bad lol But I only like about 10 songs from them (really really like those ones) so I'm not the best judge. Staning a group with terrible music is hard, I don't know how people do it on the regular lmao

We are complete opposites! I love Bad Behavior LMAO. Like I prepared for my half-marathon while having it, BAP's Oneshot and BTS's Run on loop XD. And other than a few bad apples and weak title tracks, I genuinely do enjoy GOT7's music. I loved everything about Just Right and MAD, and other than Fly and Homerun (oh, the irony), I liked every track on Flight Log, so for me it's easy to stan ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Personally, the only truly shitty/messy GOT7 single was SSI. GGG and A were weak, but weaker tracks have done better and gotten 'praised'. I didn't enjoy Fly as much, but non-fans seemed to like it, so it clearly expanded their demographic a bit. People just really like perpetrating the whole "GOT7 doesn't have any decent title tracks" when Just Right and If You Do happened less than a year ago lol

I wish this system was in place back in 2014 so they got to debut with Like Oh since of GGG, cause that mess was aaaaaaall JYP's doing >.>

ia with all your points hahaha 'SSI' is the only one that I truly dislike, 'GGG' wasn't that bad (it kind of ends up growing on you), 'A' is fine, 'JR' and 'IYD' are good, and 'Fly' seemed to catch the attention of some people who usually wouldn't listen to GOT7 or kpop so I don't have much complaints.

For the longest time I was so bitter about Fly being the title track that got them wins when JR was gold and got completely shafted, but then I see fanboys jamming and I'm like what the fuck is going on LMAO. Maybe that's what they were aiming for, in which case good for them (but bad for my petty self that loves bright concepts).

LOL I love bright concepts too and 'Just Right' is my fave era (I also love the performances for 'A'), so it makes me kind of sad that the boys don't seem to like does concepts as much and that they prefer more manly and kind of hip hop type of songs :(

i think they didn't win because they were competing against infinite and its much bigger fandom so it must've been almost impossible... thankfully got7 had a perfect timing with these last two comebacks.
just right was still the era that made them much more popular (after the disaster that was SSI) and they sold a lot more and got millions of views much faster. so i'm sure they'll have bright concepts again.

that's really interesting. got7 improved so much after having a title track not composed by jyp. it's nice to see the company is aware of how the public has changed and so a song composed by jyp won't always succeed, no matter how good it is.
i really like A and other songs he did for got7 but just right era was amazing and the start of got7's deserved success. just right is still my favorite title track.

and unlike most people here (or the ones who are commenting at least) i love fly and home run. the latter reminds me a lot of A, as they have the same fun, cute vibe - not just the song but the choreography as well. i also love fish, which seems to get a lot of hate. lol
