4minute might disband; HyunA stays in Cube

According to some sources in the industry, the five-membered group 4minute is to disband after seven years of activity.
Cube Entertainment has renewed its contract with HyunA and is also negotiating renewal with some of the other members. Those who are not renewing plan to seek new agencies.
One industry associate claims that each member has a different idea of their future path whether it be singing or acting, and after several months of discussion, they have decided that it was difficult to keep the group togehter.

i was listening to them today (and other pre-2010 kpop) and its honestly so sad how things have changed. all the groups take themselves too seriously now, trying to prove their ~artistry and everything (from choreo to visuals) is kind of half assed in the sense that its all the same

i miss the fun kpop where they didnt take themselves too seriously, things were fun catchy sometimes tragic but still joyful. every song had a different hook, different choreo, different style. now its all the same and its honestly boring and disposable. things back then took longer to prepare and think of but ironically it looked more effortless with the way the idols executed stuff and how well everything fitted together. now these new releases just seem like (excuse the weird analogy) those farts you hold and after you release them theres just absolutely nothing. what a damn shame tbh

I have to say i agree with the way kpop songs were in the past. lol I'll never forget the day Shinee dropped Ring Ding Dong and the MV was posted here. One of the best moments on Omona tbh.

A part of me kind feels that Kpop knowing they can sell overseas has changed things a bit. Combined were the idols need to seen as real artist and also collect Royalty money from writing credit.

I love a lot girl groups, but IA. It's practically the same all the time, sexy or cute/innocent or ""hip hop"". And I'm tired of this new era of songs that sound like a lot of different songs in one (not exclusive of girl groups). Yeah, once you get used to listen the song ends up being catchy but there is too many songs already like that.
And I also remember, I think it was like a year and a half ago, that there was a boom of sexy concepts where all girl groups were pulling out practically the same MV with such similar clothes. It was crazy.

And the funny thing is part of the reason I was more into girl groups is because all the boy groups songs and concepts looked the same to me, and now their are punishing me for that lol

Oh man I'd be super disappointed if they do disband. They're one of my favorite girl groups and they've blessed us with some iconic jams (death to Hate though)/
I wonder what the others will do post-4mintue though? Jiyoon and Hyuna and maybe Gayoon are the only ones with any public recognition to speak of

We're in an interesting period now in kpop, a shift of generations, maybe? A lot of new groups are considered 3rd generation and some even 4th generation depending on how you like to divide them. With so many 2nd generation groups disbanding or going on extended hiatuses, is this going to be the true passing of the baton to the 3rd generation of idols? Are Twice/BTS/EXO the next SNSD/Big Bang/DB5K? I think for a lot of fans who got into kpop during the beginning or height of the 2nd generation, this is kind of one of those things we knew would come, but didn't really realize it was happening until recently?

Is this how 1st generation fans felt? Maybe some 1st gen fans can comment on how they felt when 1st generation started to die out and how it compares to the fading of the 2nd gen?

I feel like there was a pretty large gap between 1st & 2nd gen, so maybe it wasn't as hard to deal with? Idk.

I originally was a J-Pop fan, so the way that K-Pop groups disband is just jarring to me. Their contracts end, and that's it. When J-Pop groups disband they announce it months in advance, release a goodbye single, a best of album, and have some sort of goodbye concert. I mean, it doesn't always go that way, but unless there's some big scandal, fans usually get some sort of closure.
