“Descendants of the Sun” production company NEW has announced its plans to remake U.S. drama “Criminal Minds”.

A representative from the company stated on June 8, “The remake of CBS’s ‘Criminal Minds’ will be a collaboration between NEW and Taewon Entertainment. We are targeting an early 2017 premiere, and are discussing the selection of a broadcast station.”

“Criminal Minds” is a U.S. crime drama which follows a team of criminal profilers from the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of the FBI. After premiering in September 2005, it has wrapped up its 11th season and was recently renewed for a 12th season. The internationally renowned series has a huge enough following to have spawned two spin-offs.

Meanwhile, production company NEW previously focused on films until their pre-produced drama “Descendants of the Sun” from early 2016 propelled them to hit-maker status. The pairing of Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo reignited the Hallyu wave all over China as well as around the globe, with productions like OST concerts, photo essays, and director’s cut DVD’s in circulation, impacting Korea’s economy significantly.

Because of this recent success, there is much anticipation for the outcome of NEW’s next drama.

The production of U.S. series remakes is aplenty in 2016. tvN’s remake of “The Good Wife” headlined by Jeon Do Yeon and Yoo Ji Tae is set to premiere on July, and the remake of “Entourage” starring Seo Kang Joon, Lee Kwang Soo, and Lee Dong Hwi, among others, will broadcast on November.

I used to love that show. I like falling asleep it now, it calms me. The Korean version will probably be awful tho.

Yup, and they're all marathoned all day long. I once watched, like really watched, a whole day of Ghost Whisper, 18 hours...still don't know if that's something be proud of, lol. I ended up really liking it wtf

IA I'm back at working from home and I always have this channel on where they have criminial minds, NCIS, CSI reruns, law and order, Castle and all these shows on from 7 AM to l 12 AM lol. They are pretty good as white noise like you say plus they are easy to follow.

This reminds me I need to catch up on the last season. I don't really want to because the cases are not that good anymore but an important character exited the show and I need to know what happened.

I won't get my hopes up for the Korean version to be any good.

Who asked for this? They'll ruin Criminal Minds with the typical Kdrama cheese.

i can already tell ya this ain't gonna work out. it'd be nothing like the source material. just put it down before it even gets a chance to live.

I feel like the story line of criminal minds won't translate well into korean tv. I feel like it is too dark. I enjoy watching the show and am almost too afraid to see what they will do with it

This could be good or terrible and I'm definitely leaning more toward the latter. There aren't any chaebols or love lines in The BAU last time I watched. The show deals mainly with mental and personality disorders. Since it seems mental health isn't viewed upon nicely in SK, seems like this can be destructive and add to those prejudices.

Seeing how the production company just close eye to all the terrible technical stuffs in DotS, they are going to do the same here which ended up insulting our mind while watching the show... :(

I havent watch Signal but I only hear good thing about it.

What about the subway moments?

Ohh I got it.

Didnt watch DotS but I've seen the product placements and it was horrid. It was so blantant and the actors must feel horrible doing it lol.

And I agree about the writer. She's known of writing technical dramas and she probably the only one who could avoid this drama from becoming a mess.

I know you weren't asking me, but the moment I found to be the most loltastic was when the mother of the female lead offers to make one of the male leads a sandwich... and when she brings it out (from the kitchen), it's wrapped in Subway logo paper.

But to be fair, DotS wasn't exactly Subway PPL free either.

Ahahaha my goodness, that was funny. Subway has infiltrated in all kdramas if you ask me. They even managed to go into Misaeng and other recent dramas that I watched lately. :X

DotS was very horrid in term on their blantantness of product placements. But nothing beat Yongpal if you ask me. In the drama, they basically show step by step how to use this app for searching rental house and step by step how to pay the taxi using digital watch. XD

yeah, there's romance in the show, but each ep revolves around a murder case (or other criminal activities) so this show best not be full of fluff! smh

uuuuuuh, not sure how much I'll like this. I love Criminal Minds and I really hope they don't try to focus on romance because that's not what the show is about (although there is romance here and there but mostly about solving murders.)

Now I want to rewatch the seasons/wish I owned the dvds irl.

idk this show unlike other criminal series have very unique characters like Penelope or Spencer, their personality would be hard to translate tbh

I feel like characters in kdramas are always very skeptical of profiler characters (the few I have seen), so I don't know how a show about a profiler team will translate...I feel like they'll entirely remake the characters (and probably end up with less women), I really hope they don't put a cheesy, within-group romance into it

LOL your comment just reminded me of this one shitty Profiler in Triangle, who graduated from some international school? and worked with the FBI. Or was she a psychiatrist? Basically, she was everything in the science field, there to insert infos. And Triangle was made by Taewon, one of the company up there in the article that is helping with this remake.

If they can cast someone half as hot as Shemar Moore and Matthew Gubler I'll watch the pilot; no promises after that however. Considering this is the DoTS team it'll end up being a moody love story by the 4th episode.

Reid is going to be the center i bet, and he's going to have that dreamy loveline, so which actor will be playing Reid? He's also the main reason why they bought this. Because Korean love their,'handsome', 'intelligent', 'brooding', and 'quirky' male lead.

Everybody else too will have lovelines, love everywhere!!! Even the Criminal main motives will be 'love ~~'.

And then Reid is going to play a chess kissing games with the female lead.

Reid is my favorite character out of the show but I feel like they are going to screw with his quirkiness that's Reid with all his weird information and fact that he didn't know what Twilight was. XD. I loved that episode.

yeah i'm immediately turned off because i'm sure they're just going to make him a bumbling weirdo

there's no point, you can't imitate the relationship dynamics of Criminal Minds if you tried and that's the best thing about the show.

Korean version will be no doubt about criminal profilers dating each other instead of catching serial killers.

can't really see anything good coming out of this tbh. criminal minds is a dark show not cut out for the fluffy kdrama realm... but maybe they'll change my mind. idk

came to see if people thought this stood a chance of being good and seems not lol i don't watch kdramas, but i might give this a chance because i love criminal minds so much. i don't expect it to live up to the original at all though... as long as they don't ruin it with unnecessarily with love plots i guess

I love Criminal Minds and mildly like Descendants so I feel like I'd fall in the middle for this. I'd have higher expectations but no thanks
