9MUSES’s Kyungri speaks up against rumors claiming that she is a chain-smoker.

On June 6, Kyungri directly addressed the rumors on her personal Twitter, “I may drink, but I do not smoke. Do not spread rumors. No matter how sexy you may think I look… In contrast to how I look, I’m mild.”

In response to comments accusing her of antagonizing people who smoke, she posted a second tweet, “I don’t think badly of people who smoke. There are people around me who I like that smoke frequently. It’s your right, and it’s not my place to say do this or that.”

She continues, “All I wanted to say was that I am a milder person than you think since I was hearing all these rumors. I hope that no one misunderstands.”

Good to know. I wonder what rumors were being spread if she felt the need to say something

I don't think very many female idols smoke at all really. Smoking affects women's voices and appearance a lot easier than men

I think any female idol would get a major side eye for smoking. Only only I know that smokes or used to is Amber.

If you're referring to Amber's scandal, she was holding an e-cig so she probably vapes. She's uber health conscious and doesn't drink so I'd be really surprised if she was a smoke

In most of Asia there is a stigma against women smoking so I wouldn't be surprised for it to be the same in Korea.

Same or any person in general for that matter, whether they know so or not. Smoking causes one of the most preventable forms of cancer and its just disrespectful especially here in Asia where people smoke in front of babies, children, old people, on the subway, in a restaurant, while riding bikes, etc without so much as an apology.

I'm going on a rant but people who smoke for me are selfish and irresponsible, granted I have friends and acquaintances who smoke ,but they know if they pull that shit in front of me they gone get some lip.

Maybe you should not generalize so much. I'm a smoker myself but if I'm around non-smokers I will definitely ask them if they are bothered by it or not and if they are, I move to a place where I'm not blowing smoke into someone's face.
Also, smoking on a subway?? I can't even imagine, who wouldn't be annoyed by that
I mean the examples you listed are stuff that a "well-mannered" person would never do imo

I'm probably taking this too personal but basically you just called me selfish and irresponsible lol

idk where you live but in spain you literally have to generalize bc ppl smoke under crowded bus stops, right in front of busy entrances, walking along the sidewalk (walking at a snail pace too, blowing more smoke in your face than actually inhaling themselves) and they know it and they don't give a rat's ass. not once has someone asked me if i was ok with it before smoking in my face and getting it all over my clothes, and more often than not i get ridiculed for saying that it bothers me. i don't know if it's irresponsible because it's only your health you're responsible for but when you act like above mentioned then yeah not only selfish but rude af.

i have no doubts there are well-mannered smokers and that you're one of them (if i did smoke i'd def be one of them too) but i can guarantee in some places it is the case above for more than 90% ppl. maybe not in asia (def not from my experience) but im sure its not just in spain

Really?
In Portugal we have so many laws against smoking in so many places, and honestly, from what I usually see (and from what I do), people don't want others to get hit with the smoke. I've seen so many people worried that their smoke would bother people. My mom and I smoke, but we are careful not to annoy anyone

But I guess there's always the good and the bad everywhere. Just because I haven't seen bad behavior doesn't mean there isn't

i'm honestly sorry to hear that. those stuff would bother me too even though i smoke.

originally i'm from hungary and actually we have quite a few bans on smoking (indoors, at bus stops, underground passages, and you can only smoke 5 meters from any entrance).

at the moment i live in japan though and the smoking culture is pretty impressive here i think. in my experience smokers respect non-smokers but we are not shamed for it, just have to find a smoking area and therefore everybody is happy, i guess.

nicotine is a drug that people get addicted to. a lot of people smoke as a method of self-medication and find it hard to stop. they may have started at an extremely young age and some of us grew up pasdive smoking constantly which in itself can cause addiction. you don't need to like smoking or smokers and some may be rude i won't deny (though smoking in public places asides from outside is illegal where i'm from), but frankly it is rude, judgement and misinformed to say what you just did. complain about the behaviour, not smokers in general. some people are really battling against their addiction.

I'm a smoker and I never allow my smoke to make people around me uncomfortable. When I'm at my bus stop and I smoke I go away from the line so people dont' get hit with the smoke. When I'm with my non-somoker friends I make sure I either don't smoke or ask them if they are bothered by anything

lol @ you getting nasty responses when smoking is a dangerous and selfish habit. if it just destroyed the individual then it would be just their business but secondhand smoke does just as much damage so any and all smokers can get out of their feelings and head straight to a shower/dry cleaners bc they probably smell as bad as their attitudes

Date: 2016-06-08 05:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tjmok125.livejournal.com
Im not upset at the responses tbh but my stance remains the same exactly because of second hand smoke. You can become addicted to many things sugar, alchohol, computers, cocaine, etc etc and its true cigarettes are addictive but in my opinion what makes them worse than any other addiction is that second hand smoke affects those that choose a healthy and smoke free lifestyle. Cigs are extremely poisonous and detrimental to your body so why spread that? Why do I have to suffer because you cant control youself from smoking a certified cancer stick? It sounds harsh but I see no other way to explain to people who smoke how much it affects those around them.

Secondly if you do end up with lung cancer how do I support my family member through that when its their fault they contracted it to begin with.its like dying from diabetes, high blood pressure, etc you were told the effects but instead of putting others before yourself especially family you chose to give in to your addictions leaving your friends and family to have to just deal with the aftermath.

I have no sympathy for addictions since I am a firm beleiver in you do what you want to do and you make time what you want to make time for. Im speaking from watching my birth father deal with and die from alchoholism but at least when he was posioning his liver mine wasnt affected. Smoking doesnt have that luxury.

i absolutely agree with you and wish i was articulate enough to express myself like you did.
after having watched someone literally rot away and die because of smoking i just have no sympathy for anybody that picks up the habit.
watching somebody die was the worst experience of my life so to see comments essentially saying ~its none of your business~ is so infuriating. smoking is everybody's business.

I think the assertion is that people see her as being a ~~~bad girl because she seems sexy aka an evil demon whore who probably does all sorts of horrifying, uncouth and unladylike things LOL. Internalized misogyny is a hell of a drug.

OP why can never see the pics on yours posts? at least for the lasts ones you made.

I feel like there is more about how that rumor started because it doesn't make sense just because she is sexy people think she smokes, but IA with the title: leave her alone!

A bit unrelated but: I like the smell of tobacco but I hate the smell of cigarretes in my clothes/things. I lived for more than 5 years with roommates that were smokers and when I came back home with my family everything smelled so bad! I guess I was used to it and didn't noticed but going back to my house where no one smokes made it obvious, but not only clothes, everything! So now what I related more to smoking is the smell and not the health problems, oops!

They basically only care if you're super duper relevant. There was an omona post not that long ago about Daesung and TOP smoking, but overall you right.

I do think it comes from the Asian stigma about women smoking in general, if I remember correctly (NOT POSITIVE) there's a lot of places where it's like a sin to smoke and be a woman.

Kyungri is too flawless so someone is out there trying to find a way to tarnish her name. I get it, jealousy knows no bounds.
