This made me remember why I got bored of the promotion system in in Kpop. Why perform the same song over and over again when you have many other songs to be just as good as the single?
do you know why that's the case? I'm fairly new to kpop, but I never noticed such tendencies in any other fandom :/ i mean, they're under sm, shouldn't that alone bring fans to them?
Well, from what I can tell Krystal and Victoria tend to be the most popular. f(x) really focused on individual promotions when after the release of Pink Tape since that's when SM started doing just one comeback a year. Victoria is focused on conquering her native country of China (as she should) and since f(x) is their ~experimental group~ they can get away with it.
Luna gets the least amount of promo out of all of f(x). She's probably one of the most underrated vocalist in all of kpop. Surprisingly just being from SM doesn't help. Also they really were an ass to her by putting her solo right after Tiffany and Jonghyun's and then having EXO comeback right after her.
Miss A is the only group I can think of where like half of the fans are probably just actually Suzy fans and not fans of the other group. There are a few others, but I am blanking.

Eunji did amazing. She was in top 3 on melon for over a month and a half, even when other groups or solos came back. Sometimes, someone will take her spot on real time charts for a day or a couple hours (like Jessica) but she would always go back to number 2 or 3. Her longevity is no joke, even if it didn't translate to music show wins (well, twice was always a rank above in digital, and eunji has weak physical sells). She is currently 6th on melon real time charts, above aoa, akmu, exid, jonghyun. Basically it's been more than two month since release but she's still doing better than anybody who came out after her, except Twice.
Arguably, jonghyun's doing well physically and he's still in top 100 on melon?

There are honestly not that many idol soloists, Sme or not Sme, who did well this year TBH. Eunji was def up there. Jonghyun, Woohyun are decent I would say for male idols (although Woohyun did better digitally and for much longer). And Jessica maybe.
I figured as much. I know that Yesung had a solo venture but it passed by so quickly and then it was Tiff, Jjong, Luna right after that. But knowing that not many soloists had incredibly strong sales, I guess there's just a lot of competition.
I guess it depends who. Cause I think taeyeon flew over the competition last year (yup, she did (http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/17321120.html)), and Kyuhyun did good digitally i think. There's a pattern, male can do better in physical (Woohyun sold 68k, and Jong 56k on hanteo, tiff has 45k which is really decent for a girl, even more a solo) and girls do better digitally. If you can get both, like taeyeon (and arguably jonghyun, Woohyun and Jessica) then you're good.
