[identity profile] benihime99.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] omonatheydid

On June 1 a teaser video announcing news of a label signing press conference for former miss A member, Jia (now referred to as Meng Jia), was uploaded to YouTube.

While flashing through various performance and music video clips of the star, the video reveals that a press conference of her label signing will be held on June 8 at the Andaz Xintaindi in Shanghai. Jia will be signing with entertainment agency Banana Culture (formerly known as Yedang Entertainment), which is also the home agency for girl group EXID.

It was recently announced that Jia would not renew her contract with JYP Entertainment.

Who is ready for Meng Jia to make a comeback?

I'm posting this here because she is signed to a korean label but if her solo comeback isn't in the kpop realm we won't be able to post news on omona

I'm excited to see how she'll be as a solo. Banana culture has a lot of money to throw around and if they market her well she could definitely gain some buzz.

I was having doubts if this could be posted here. I guess this post is the answer lol

Everything happened so fast that makes me thinks she probably made the decision to go with Banana Culture and had at least like some kind of arrangement even if it wasn't a contract before her contract with JYP expired. I guess they were talking about it for a time. I hope things go well for her ^_^

Hmm, good choice.
I assumed she would go with a 100% China based agency, but I guess she does need s few more years to establish her self before she can get a signed to a good deal with a major Chinese agency.

@OP: but she's signed to a Korean based company like SUJU-M/EXO-M and that random group Jackie Chan made...

She always said she wanted to go solo lol. Do you, boo.

Congrats, bb. This is cheesy as fuck though, lol.

I still think its dumb that we can't post about ex-kpop members activities. I don't think it would take over the community or anything and they are still kpop in OUR HEARTS.

My bitterness aside, I am surprised shes signing to another Korean company. Good luck to her.

It would be nice if we could have something like an ex-member roundup post every couple months or so. It wouldn't clog the community and all conversation could happen in one place

Oh this is such a good idea! Do you think the mods would be ok for it?

Idk? I remember the ban happened in the first place when kris left exo and there was a small but vocal anti-kris minority and the mods imposed a ban on post-korea updates but since then there's been a continued 'it would be nice if we could post this stuff' sentiment, so maybe it could be brought up in an ffa as a discussion point or something? If the community was for it then i don't see why the mods would say no

The question must have happened first for Hangeng, but I'm not following Suju, I don't remember how it went... I think it was especially awkward before Jessica was signed to a Korean company but her activities in China were still posted just because of her nationality. I'm happy about it - I'm glad there are a few users always posting about her since it makes it really easy to follow what she's up to! - but if this community is really about entertainement from the Korean industry, is entertainement from the Chinese industry supposed to be posted here at all, Korean idols or not? why is the person's nationality the sole criteria?
A semi-regular round-up post on ex-members wouldn't drown the community and I'm betting it would bring people in the comments haha

Yeah, I agree. That was always my issue with Jessica posts after she was no longer a member of SNSD, but Heaven forbid that you mention it, bc you'll get many negative comments towards you (at least in my experience). She's making a Korean comeback, & is on a Korean beauty show, so I can understand that being posted, but a lot of her Chinese stuff was being posted, just because she is Korean… which is kinda really not cool, IMO, but I think I'm the only one who thinks that (& I'll probably be called "bitter" for this comment but w/e ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).

Yes it's a whole debate and interesting to have! What I'm uncomfortable with is that it's mostly based on nationality. Jessica's activities in China when she wasn't signed to a Korean company were under overseas activities but another idol doing the same thing wouldn't have their activities posted because they're Chinese, for example. Which undermines a bit how the community cares about non-Korean idols and why I think some kind of occasional round up is such a good idea!

Dude(tte), I love this idea! I would really like to see what they've been up to. Great idea! I hope it gets implemented!

Oh, nice! Since everything went fast, I hope she already has plans for her solo career and that we'll hear about her soon :)
