YG Entertainment is celebrating its 20th anniversary today! May 20 marks the 20th year since the company was founded.
Yang Hyun Suk, the founder of the entertainment agency, debuted in 1992 with Seo Taiji and Boys. In 1996 he opened the company that would foster artists like Jinusean, One Time, Lexy, Se7en, Wheesung, Gummy, Big Mama, BIGBANG, 2NE1, WINNER, iKON, and PSY. The company is also home to actors such as Cha Seung Won, Kang Dong Won, Lee Jong Suk, Kim Hee Ae, and Choi Ji Woo.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary, Yang Hyun Suk told OSEN in an interview that he had passed out rice cakes at the company restaurant.
“I’m not planning any sort of event,” he said. “There are no plans for a party or concert. There are a lot of things to do before launching our new girl group so we don’t have time to spare. Our artists have to work to live so I thought it wouldn’t make sense to take time out to celebrate ourselves.”
There are also no plans for a YG Family concert this year. “People think that we’re a big company, but I think we’re actually far from that goal,” Yang Hyun Suk said. “There are a lot of things I still want to do.”
YG, how about you celebrate by actually sticking to your plans for once..

"Our artists have to work to live"
Not if their names are Minzy and Bom.
Let's be real, there ain't no concert because one of their main attractions, who always open the show, imploded (2NE1) and they have no plans for them and the other (Bigbang) are about to start enlisting. Using the new girl group is an excuse. In 2014 AKMU and Winner debuted and y'all managed to have a whole ass tour.

Date: 2016-05-22 03:20 pm (UTC)There was more than one group announced for debut. One was supposed to debut in 2012 in addition to Supearls before they disbanded and the 2nd was posted on YGE's channel in 2012 with the video titled "Future 2NE1 (4 years later)"
YGE Reveals Album Release Plans for Su Pearls, New Girl Group, and 2NE1
thunderstix August 13, 2012
YG Entertainment dropped some additional info on their upcoming two girl groups as well as 2NE1’s approximate album release date.
On August 13, YGE spoke with local media Star News and said, “Su Pearls will debut in September, while our other new girl group will debut in October.”
Shortly after Su Pearls’ debut, YGE will showcase their much anticipated new girl group. No word has come out regarding their group name, but YGE has released the profile of the five members through its official blog, YG-Life, over the last few months. It’s still unclear what the new girl group will look like, but since it’s their first girl group in three and a half years since 2NE1’s debut, fans and the press are eagerly waiting to see them.
“We still can’t reveal the actual number of members, but we’re aiming for an October debut,” YGE told Star News.
Stay tuned for more updates!

Date: 2016-05-23 12:36 pm (UTC)There was a previous girl group that had to keep a member out of their music show promos because the member was too young. I think her name was Janey.
The other YG girl group was supposed to have the older trainees including Jennie Kim, Yuna Kim (she left YG), Eunbi(left YG), Jisoo (who currently has been doing cfs with Lee Minho + Ikon), Lalice (who now does YG's Nonagon campaigns). That's why Jennie was being pushed so much in YG related promos around 2012/2013. She featured on GD, Seungri, and Lee Hi's albums and did performances with them.
