in the middle of a live stream variety appearance for their upcoming japanese single, an earthquake that registered at 5.6 on the richter scale occurred just off the eastern coast of japan. the earthquake was felt the most strongly in the saitama and tokyo areas. earthquakes are actually quite common in japan (especially of smaller magnitudes) so the semi-calm reaction from shinee (minus jonghyun) is likely because they've grown accustomed to it happening at this point. regardless, it's still seen as a stronger earthquake! luckily there were no reports of harm done to anyone from the earthquake.

We never have earthquakes where I live except for one year when a couple randomly happened about 30 miles away, and even though we barely felt it at my house I suddenly felt like I was falling over. It freaked me out so much since I didn't really know it was an earthquake I was convinced I need to go to the hospital. I can't imagine what it would be like to be in a large one.

that looks like one of the rolling kind of earthquakes, which imo is better than the jolting side to side kind (i'm sure there are technical terms for it, but idk lol). i mean, they feel like they last longer, but don't shake you up as hard (no pun intended).

Yeah, it's a distinctive difference. It mostly has to do with your distance from the epicenter. Depth too, but mostly distance.
Usually, rollers are when you are farther away. Shakers are when you are close.

I live in California, on a significant fault-line, so I have experience with quite a range. The rollers literally feel like you're out on the ocean. The shakers feel like you're getting whipped back and forth in a dog's mouth.

idek how i would react in an earthquake. australia does have a lot of earthquakes but they are usually so small no one notices them (except scientists obvs). occasionally there are bigger ones tho. i don't think i actually know anyone personally who has experienced an earthquake in australia.

When I was in Japan 2 years ago there were several earthquakes but I never felt a single one. I would go to class the next day and all my classmates would be talking about how they felt them and I would be like "What?"

I live in Mexico, right below California, so i'm used to erathquakes, in 2010 we han an 7.2 earthquake and it was scary af lmao, my hiouse was a mess but nothing happened to us. Since I'm used to them I don't think I would have felt that eartquake if I was in japan lol

I don't remember that one, but the 7.3 pointer from 2012 was crazy. I mentioned above that anything below a 6 pointer doesn't really make me get out of bed, but that particular one had me running out the house with family in tow and dog in arms.

There have been a lot of strong quakes the past few years (especially 2012) and getting stronger. After what happened to Chile and then Ecuador, I'm kinda worried tbh, another quake like the 85 one would be horrible.

we had like two 5.something ones in my lifetime that i know of. first one i half slept through, i thought it was just a bad dream, and i remembered seeing the lamp shake half asleep, but i wasn't conscious of it until the morning when i saw the news.
